In a perfect spot - nose of anise, dark rust, red flowers. Tannins are resolved but still present - acidity is medium plus and there is lots of fruit on the palate. The finish is long with the fruit and savoury herbs continuing. Rich and supple on the tongue. This kept evolving during the 3 hours we had it - just slight changes but enough to have to keep coming back for another scent and taste. (718 views)

Morgon and Fleurie with Charcuterie and Cheese (San Francisco): This was the uncultured cuvée (marked "N" on the back label). Similar light, rather anemic color. Some brett marks the nose. A little more body than the 2014 Dutraive, but still overall, light, dirty, short, and dried out. Not very good at all. Consistent with the one other bottle I've tried. This seems like the rare disastrous year for Lapierre although bottles showed more positively early on. (1825 views)

I am finding that I like my Cru Beaujolais in a young-ish spot, this wine is getting tawny on the rim, and is showing more tertiary flavors that are good, but I prefer the brighter fruit and crunchy acidity. When these get a bit more savory with age, I think they are a bit less interesting to my palate.
Good red fruits and soil, some rhubarb pie and raspberry compote, alongside espresso bean, milk chocolate, tea leaves and wet soil.

C'est peut être un peu de ma faute de l'avoir attendu 7 ans, car pour la plupart des vins nature, c'est probablement trop. Le premier nez (d'acétate) était carrément désagréable pour moi; ensuite ce coté animal dont je ne raffole pas vraiment et enfin le fruit (la fraise) mais bien plus (trop?) tard. Ce vin est assez mince, pas très large ni long en bouche. Vrai que '13 n'était pas un grand millésime en Beaujolais, mais autant ce vigneron charismatique m'emballait au tournant des années 2000, autant sa succession me laisse songeur et sur ma soif, surtout après m'être fait soulagé de plus de 33$. L'appellation Morgon a le vent dans les voiles depuis quelques années et plusieurs jeunes vignerons font mieux et pour bien moins cher tout en étant nature ou bio ou Terra Vitis ou HVE. (1376 views)

Compared the sulfured (S) and Non Sulfured (N) side by side.

S: Pretty light ruby color with maybe just a touch of opaqueness.
Really pretty and very floral nose of blue flowers, cherry and a hint of medicine. The prettiness continues on the palate with delightful strawberries and red cherries with light weigh but good intensity. Sappy with a crisp finish and floating lightness.

U: No obvious difference in color side by side. Maybe a very small shade darker, but that could be the lighting. Original the nose was more savory, although it became floral with air. Nevertheless retains a little more of the herbal medicine tone than the S.
On the palate leans more cherry than strawberry, has a savory quality and finishes a touch alkaline.

They come across as twins but with different personalities. A fun comparison. I'd rate them both 91, showing really well right now. (1715 views)

This wine was tasted next to a 2005 vintage 15.5% Quintarelli...quite the polar opposites!
The Morgon had a fresh and bright nose, with notes of dusty rocks, bright red cherry fruit that is tart and crunchy, alongside raspberry and a bit of orange peel.
The palate is also quite bright, showing med body and good spiciness, with tart red cherry, sour blackberry, peppery spice, and beautiful soil signature.
This is a lovely wine, drinking beautifully now, and should continue to do so through 2020. (1905 views)

Is there ever a contraindication for drinking a Gang of Four wine? Oh, I should be listening to Gang of Four while I drink! Drain this anytime the mood hits, and I'm always in the mood. Some Bojo 13s can be a little tart, like this one, but I don't really care. A note has to differentiate so I mention it. If you line it up on the scale, the basic example is a bit simple. Despite many early drinking 2013s, this one is holding back with a bit of racy acidic overtones, great restraint in the fruit, and a medium but not lush mouth feel. All of this points to fine winemaking and the need for age, so the purplish dark red color, mixed berry nose ( strawberry, lingonberry, raspberry), and dense mid palate compote augur well. The 2013 Lapierre Morgon has developed quite a lot over the last six months, losing some of its aromatic purity and textural precision—perhaps my passive cellar just runs too warm? An attractive bouquet of wild strawberry and griotte cherry is now complemented by medicinal aromas and herb tones. On the palate, the wine is bright and acid-driven, and very gently extracted; it seems just a bit smudged and muddled, however, compared to its showings at the end of last year. As expected, beautiful aromas including fresh, focused floral and red fruit notes, as well as underlying mineral and earth character. Fruit is largely strawberry, with a combination of ripe and tart, but mainly just-ripe. There is impressive depth here. There's the slightest hint of barnyard (brett), which I actually find adds to the complexity, and I tend to be quite intolerant to that. Overall, I think this is a very good wine, and a good, but not great, vintage for Lapierre. MUCH better than the 2012, but not quite on the level of 2011 or 2009. (2715 views)

Many other Beaujolais I've had smell like bubble-yum or bananas and have some weird flatness, like club soda. Not burnt, but just, I don't know, like you're tasting the carbon. This is clean and direct. It's tart and sour-cherry, but mysteriously has almost no aftertaste. There's no oak flavor to speak of, (it's vilified in large-format neutral oak) but (once you let it develop) it still seems to have depth and richness like a wine that sees new oak. This is a lovely young Lapierre. There's a great mix of red and dark fruits, some tart and some a bit riper. The pronounced floral character that I hope for in Lapierre is here in spades. Palate: Light/medium bodied wine with a good medium+ acidity. Again licorice and crashed stones. Good tension on the mid-palate, noticeable tannins. Need a bit more time to come together. Terrific bottle of wine. Have had this open for four days and there is virtually no change from the day I opened the bottle. The nose is floral with notes of bitter, red and blue fruit and earth. The tannins are marked, still after four days, so this needs to go to sleep in the cellar for 3-5 years. There is very good structure and tension here, bright acidity and marks of cranky, bitter fruit with a hint of licorice pastille. Will need time to open up and blossom but there is a lot in store.
