This is a strong example of Crozes at its best. And for me, it is pretty close to peak drinking. Nose blackberry, olives, a bit of animale, a bit of lavender floral notes, heavy black pepper. Palate incredibly balanced - still showing fruit, but lots of secondary development of cacao, pepper, herbal and olive notes. Plenty of acid, plenty of fruit, great mineral, tannins largely resolved and integrated, though still very present. Hits way above appelation and price point. Paired wonderfully with gigot de sept heures for the holiday. (79 views)

Really good, dark and brooding. Takes a bit to open and integrate still but a nicely stewed red berries, medium tannins and a dash of acidity. (95 views)

Finalement avec le temps il a plutôt bien évolué, s’est assagi en perdant de sa rusticité et de son côté m’as-tu-vu.
Le nez puissant de syrah bien ensoleillée possédait ce charme rhodanien typique : violette, mûre, cassis, avec du poivre et un côté végétal (rafles?), un pointe animale, camphrée. Tout cela là que je. Peu de pureté.
La bouche est chaleureuse mais pas très massive, il reste qq tanins qui manquent de finesse; à la fin, une certaine fraîcheur rappelle que la syrah reste un cépage acidulé, surtout sur Crozes! (411 views)

Quite nice for a Crozes, this is dense and rhoney. Lots of non fruit things going on here, quite a mouthful but nothing I would consider not correct. Earth, pepper, I can dig figs as someone else said, a little camphor but not bad, overall a very nice bottle of northern rhone syrah that is of place yet not cornas or cote rotie. Just what I'm looking for in an entry level Crozes. They didn't screw it up with excess oak or extraction; they knew they had young vines Syrah from decent terroir, and treated it accordingly. Olives, bacon fat, black pepper, barest hints of violet, black fruit. Decent acid and freshness, even after 8 years. Minerals, and still good dark fruit. a slight herbal bitterness on finish that is not entirely lovely, but also not offensive. Time to drink up - this isn't improving at this point. It has remarkable complexity and beauty for the price and intent. (409 views)

Best, and last, bottle. Vinturi'd into a glass and it was ready to go. Still, it improved with more time in the glass. Black berries, plums, olives, black pepper, bacon...this is just classic Syrah. Medium- tannins and medium- acidity. Nice finish. Prime drinking and can only go downhill from here. This bottle is just outstanding tonight. I could become a Northern Rhone fan based on this bottle alone. (662 views)

Lush, rich, sweet peppery red fruit, round tannins and a strong touch of oak all work well here. The wine is full-bodied with volume and length, but this is going to need time to allow everything to better integrate before. Give it at least 5-7 years in the cellar. (1270 views)

Sweet black raspberries, pepper, flowers and spicy plums show up with little effort on the nose. Soft, silky, fresh and bright, with a nice sweetness to the fruits and a distinctive herb and olive touch along with the fruit in the finish. (1084 views)

Providing this note a few day after initially opening this bottle and drinking a glass. This one needed a day in the frig after opening. Otherwise, an overwhelming animal funk/ Brett aspect persisted the first night (even after several decanter hours). Now, it's much more like the first bottle that we drank earlier this year. A good mix of fruit and other Syrah-typical flavors (olives, black pepper, meatiness). (654 views)

Waiting proved worthwhile with this bottle. Although it would never develop the white pepper and blood nose I love in Syrah because of the hot vintage this did develop nicely.

Dark red. Smoky dark fruit, warm soil and beef nose. Dry rich black cherry, olive brine and berry flavours and a nice dry resolved finish. (611 views)
