Wine Cellar - South of France (Wine Cellar): (Tasted Blind): A mid-deep brown colour. Sweet nose, very heady and lifted with notes of fresh spices, treacle toffee (Thorntons toffee) with warmed sliced walnuts inside!, dark (90%) chocolate and some damp oak. Sweet entry, oxidative/rancio but still fresh and nicely balanced, this remarkable wine displays incredible complexity and leaves a lasting impression. Wow!
Made from 90 yr-old Grenache vines, low yield of 3-12 hL/Ha. Casks kept in the roof of the Maury Coop. The solera system they use (started in 1928?) only removes a quarter of the liquid at any one time, (141 views)

Much better than I remember it. I’ve had this bottle in the cellar for over 10 years and it showed a nice mix of nuttiness and red fruit. Deep and complex with quite a bit of intensity. Excellent. (432 views)

This is a behemoth of a fantastic wine. Exceptional in every way. The vibrant intensity of the raspberries and sloan are breathtaking. The herbal qualities sing! I almost start crying from the beauty of this wine, still pushing tannins up my palate (^｡^)

Aaah maaaaa gaaaawd!
This is perfectly balanced, complexity over the rainbow and never ends.

Colour: like an early maturity Bdx.
Nose is beautiful and speaks with a sweet diction: rancio, fresh figs, spearmint, Christmas spice, glühwein, glögg and Grenache fruit 🍑 in a way that feels like a maximum of 25 years old...
Medium sweet, ultima complex and complete. Fresh figs, raisins and spearmint compete on the front palate.

The mid-palate is a different animal, where the main tension is between the acidity and the sugars. This is the poetically perfect place. Just like one of Emily Dickinson's poems that is expected to, but doesn't rhyme... There's a bitter pang in here that bites the head off of all expectations.

The grand finale is on fire 🔥
A bit of alcoholic heat and sweetness sets the stage for the pure and clean ending. Like a loving relationship that doesn't end, but instead slowly dissipates. All the beauty and glory of this wine feels like the remnants in the sky of a Master's fireworks finale...

It's a torture to suddenly find my glass: empty...

Was saving this last bottle to drink with my father, who was born in 1928. But for the last few years he hadn't been drinking wine or alcohol of any sort any more so we never found the occasion to drink it. He died today, just a few days before his 94th birthday, so I decided to open this bottle and drink it with some friends. Call it the mood or whatever, but I found this wine to be terrific. Full of life and interest, plenty of biting acidity and a good dose of residual sugar. Yeah, maybe not the most profound wine in the world, but today it was 100 points. Here's to you, pops. Decanted and drunk in one sitting. Medium sweet, nutty wine with nice oxidative flavours. Like a medium sherry in style. Nicely aged, Raisin and walnuts with good balancing acidity. (164 views)

P: Med, poss MF, body; ALMOST swtish frt & POSS some heat (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by a puckerish astringency which only somewhat works itself out by the LONG, very slightly astringent finish. Official B’day at Bibendum (Bibendum, London): Faded brown, more burnt sienna than tawny. Sweet but with a savoury mellowness. Unsurprisingly goes very well with the 100% Cocoa chocolate soufflé. Lots to like here. **** (811 views)
