2004 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino  (Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino)2004 Brunello di Montalcino Taste Off, Episode #752 (10/13/2009)Gary VaynerchukWine Library TV
Brunello di Montalcino. #2 (tie); COLOR-dark; NOSE-darker nose; dark chocolate; mulberry; dark blackberry; big and masculine; PALATE-more New World style; an imaginary blend of a Tuscan wine blended w/ a California wine; getting some Old world earth and tar bubbles; but on the back-end had the oaky, fruit California cult wine flavors; they do this well; SPECTACULAR; a great effort; 70-80% would prefer this over the La Colombina that I rated slightly higher (because it is a little more approachable and has more of a delicious factor w/ great sunshine and fruit); ; WS-95; GV-93 93 points
2004 La Colombina Brunello di Montalcino  (Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino)2004 Brunello di Montalcino Taste Off, Episode #752 (10/13/2009)Gary VaynerchukWine Library TV
Brunello di Montalcino. #1; COLOR-medium dark; NOSE-very aromatic; beautiful sour cherries; a little peppermint action; some really ripe raspberries coming through on the back-end; very nice nose; PALATE-big ripe fruit; ooh, this is good; great structure; very complex and dry; a crushed rock minerality that you usually see in white wines; a little forrest floor action; some gaminess and dirt action; very complex wine with big fruit; this is downright delicious and pretty much rips my face off; I like the creaminess; I love the sweet and sour flavors; I like the rosemary and spice; this is a big time wine; this is SPECTACULAR and at $38 is a value of a BdM; WS-92; GV-94+ 94+ points
2004 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di Montalcino  (Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino)2004 Brunello di Montalcino Taste Off, Episode #752 (10/13/2009)Gary VaynerchukWine Library TV
Brunello di Montalcino. #2 (tie); COLOR-medium dark; NOSE-great nose; big and bombastic; smells good; lots of big red fruit; almost like candied cranberries; strawberry taffy; PALATE-very meaty; big firm tannins; THIS IS PURE SILK; so smooth (I'm talking baby Misha butt skin smooth); rounded out with gorgeous bright red fruit (cherries); very dry as well; a SPECTACULAR wine; AG-95; GV-93+ 93+ points
