Drunk over four nights and at its best on nights 3 and 4 when it had fully uncoiled. Really lovely notes of green apple, citrus, white stone fruit, pineapple, honey, mint, white flowers, and slatey minerals. Quite special. Took a bit of time to open up, really coming together by night 2 when the balance was en pointe. Drink now if you can let this sit open and breathe for hours, or better still, a day. (1421 views)

First look in at this beauty in 4+ years and it does not disappoint. A linear citrus core is rounded out with crisp apple, white peach, tropical fruit, floral honey notes, talcum powder and plenty of slatey minerals. Excellent balance between acidity, fruit and sugar, and while very much a Kabinett, this has good weight on the palate. Drunk over three days and it was fairly open from the get go but fully open after couple of hours in the decanter and then didn’t shift much over three days. Killer stuff. (2242 views)

Great stuff. Lemon, grapefruit, orchard fruits, slate, honeysuckle. Sweetness is balanced with focused acidity. Drink now with some air, but should hold for at 5-10 years. (740 views)

Decanted for 3-4 hours before drinking and then consumed over two days. Wow. This explodes with a wonderful array of tropical and stone fruit, honey, white flowers, lime, and lemon drops. Brilliantly big on the palate. There is a fair amount of residual sugar here, but it’s totally enveloped in a citrusy minerality. Absolutely seamless across the palate. A little viscous and very long. Lip smackingly beautiful. Better the second day. Drink now, or hold for as long as you trust the cork! (1312 views)

Cork was perfect, but the golden colour had me initially worried. No signs of premature oxidation though. Let it air for a couple of hours. A bold nose of citrus fruits, kerosene, and some honeysuckle. Full bodied on the palate. Not linear. Instead this cascades over the palate like a torrent covering every crevice with plenty of pithy citrus fruit, some tropical flavours, and minerals. Texture is slightly waxy. Hint of fruit sweetness. No formal note. Cork clean. Very fruity with perhaps a hint of botrytis. Still quite primary. Round and smooth on the palate. Acidity is there, but very reserved and round. (219 views)

Cork totally soaked through and needed to strain cork bits from the wine. Golden colour - and I think more advanced than it should be at this stage in its development. Didn’t notice any overt flaws on the nose or palate except that the wine lacked the acidic drive and focus I was hoping for from this vintage. Flavours fell very much towards the riper end of the spectrum and although this was consistent with my previous note from 2014, it’s not consistent with to bulk of CT notes for this wine not the vintage in general. So I’m a little suspicious about how these bottles were handled in parts of the transport chain before they made it to me. Not rated. (1609 views)

Under screwcap. Ready to go. Slightly overripe apple, white peach and pineapple meet slate, white flowers and kerosene. Probably lacks a touch of acidity and zing for me, but I’m being picky. It’s a very tasty Kabinett. (267 views)

Drunk over two days. Wow! This is absolutely brilliant young Spätlese. Just killer. Jam packed with flavour. I initially found apple and lemon dominate but over time peach and more exotic tropical flavours emerged with stoney minerals and floral honey. What amazed me was how integrated this was - everything dancing to the beat of the same drum. It’s sweet on the plate and fairly rich but the Mosel acidity keeps this oh so fresh and zingy. I think this is the best young Spätlese I’ve had the pleasure to taste. Definitely not a crime to drink now but it was more open and revealing on night 2, so don’t be afraid to let it breathe. While drunk over 4 days, I didn’t find this an open book that was willing to reveal too much. There were citrus notes, orchard fruit and riper tropical tones accompanied with the requisite WS slate and minerals. Definitely some complexity there. Less sweet that I expected though. Don’t get me wrong, there was plenty of fruit sweetness, but I suspect a little less residual sugar than normal (or it’s just hidden more than usual). Acidity is en pointe, and already integrated into a relatively round palate. It’s not shimmering though like it does in some vintages. Overall, I found there was a lot in the bottle, especially for a Kabinett, but the package was a little hard to open. More muted than expected given the hype around the vintage. Will be very interesting to follow this over time. Rated conservatively. (4074 views)

A true spatlese here, with solid weight and viscosity. That’s not to say it’s heavy and cloying because it certainly isn’t. Fruit’s profile touches on tropical and orchard rather than citrus, but there is a nice zippy mineral heart to this wine. Lovely mouthfeel and good length. (1566 views)

Relatively primary, with lots of pear, apple, and white peach, honeysuckle, and slate. Some kero aromas there too. Pretty sweet on the palate, but there's enough acidity to keep this focused across the palate. Excellent concentration and length. (574 views)
