2012 Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine Zinfandel (USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley) 2/15/2024klezman

This was in an excellent place. No idea why others have said it's past prime. Plenty of deep dark fruit alongside lots of savoury secondary character. I guess if a non-fruit-bomb Zin is anathema then at 11+ years old this may not be your jam, but it's a great wine in a great place for me. (285 views)

Some green veggies/peppers to go with classical dark Zin fruit. Nothing really special about this wine but smooth an enjoyable. (827 views)

2012 Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine Zinfandel (USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley) 4/8/2021Pinotfanbg86

Dark red color with no bricking or other signs of age. The nose is Rhône or even cab like with a bit of VA lift to the scent. Red fruit taste is bright and juicy, but a bit hazy on the palate. Good acidity keeps this fresh. Finishes with a bit of old barrel taste and grippy tannins that are slightly drying on the medium length finish. On the second night I’m getting more sour cherry, Ludens cherry cough drop flavors and a bit of warmth on the finish. Drink up. (1472 views)

2012 Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine Zinfandel (USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley) 12/20/2020River Rat

Pop n pour, this wine tastes like it was bottled last month not last decade. Sappy red fruit a little bramble and spice but mainly sweet red fruit. Maybe this is what it is or maybe the fruit will settle down but don’t hold your breath. No rush to open if you have some in the cellar. (1942 views)

Yes, indeed still drinking well & benefited from additional cellar time. Agree with notes by Hamersly & Bound4er. (2000 views)

Bound4er's note below nails it:
"Really punches above its weight class. Structured dark fruit, fully resolved tannins, acidity present but not overwhelming." I'll only add that the 2020 drink-by date seems conservative, this shows no signs of teetering on the brink and could probably go another couple of years. (2351 views)

Pop and pour. This wine continues to be slightly jammy, a little sweet, but this was more balanced than the previous ones. (1984 views)

Really punches above its weight class. Structured dark fruit, fully resolved tannins, acidity present but not overwhelming. Drinks well with hearty food such as burgers on the grill. (1625 views)

Unchanged from my 2016 note - mostly dark fruit, a touch sweet. Fully mature with fully integrated structural notes; drink now. (1650 views)

I buy a lot of Bedrock single vineyard wines. I've only ever had these blended wines right after release, and have never been particularly interested in them.

Five years on, though, this is quite drinkworthy. The finish is maybe short and a bit clunky, but otherwise this is a perfectly good bottle of wine. (1469 views)

Improved after about an hour. Plum, red cherry, raspberry, earth, spice, and herbs on the nose. Tart cherries, red cherries, plums, herbs, earth, and spice on the palate. Bright acidity, integrated tannin, medium body, moderate finish. Overall, this was a nice wine with good acidity and nice red fruit. It wasn't the most exciting zin, but I enjoyed it with dinner. Loads of spice and oak notes, some herbs and pine, with relatively little fruit, and loads of structure. Medium-high acidity and approachable but plentiful tannin. Deep red and black fruit, but below the herbal, piney note. The tannin dominate the finish at this point, suggesting plenty of aging potential. (1761 views)

PnP. Aromas of black fruits leaps out of the glass. On the palate, black fruit interlaces with spice.

Update on night two after VinVac: this has the same characteristics but adds layers of bright red fruit which has a juicy component to it. Updated from 91 to 92. (1775 views)

I like Bedrock zins but this is only ok. Tannins yes, but I'm not sure this will improve. Grade of B. (2237 views)
