But there would have been far more appeal on its own. I would say it was not a good matchup even though it was a perfectly logical choice and plan. Here we get far more candy like feel and less sexiness that the Ardanza shows. We are almost childlike in exaggerated aromas of ripe red fruit, a vain of balsamic, and voluptuous oak. All in all it works well, but comes across a bit ripe and empty at at the same time. I couldn't finish my glass, so it sat on the kitchen counter...I am going to hold off for a year at least. (2008 views) | | Tasted by Ernestas on 3/17/2023 & rated 88 points: Youthful, dense and concentrated Tempranillo made by legendary Vega Sicilia from 32 year old vines located at 700 m of altitude. After fermentation, wine is aged for 12 months in 75% FR and 25% US oak, 80% new. Deep garnet colour, ruby hue. Concentrated fresh aroma of blackberries, black cherries, chocolate, cassis, liquorice, tar, hints of wood smoke. Full body, slightly overly dense and concentrated, with black fruit and spice flavours, balsamic touches, medium acidity and rich, firm mouth coating tannins. (2861 views) | | Tasted by Purple Tooth on 1/13/2023 & rated 92 points: Not the most robust Pinita, but this is some crafty wine making and a sure shot for an enjoyable wine to put on the table for everyone. There is unmistakable quality, without the need to fuss and and ooh and ahh...So, very easy to understand and enjoy while chatting with friends.
If blind, it points me to a hot vintage St. Emilion or a Cotes de Bourg in their youth. I would say that this is 2003 Right Bank Bordeaux profile after 7 years of aging, plus some very crafty woodwork. Roasted plums and black figs swimming in a red coffee laden potion with hints of vanilla. A bit of thin-ness of the fruit tells me not to hold this too long. I say drink now and over 5 years...Drink (3620 views) | | Tasted by alexlb06 on 12/26/2022 & rated 91 points: Really nice nose, firm tannins, medium body. Red fruits, some spice (2922 views) | | Tasted by Bguimaraes on 10/2/2022 & rated 95 points: Delicious Toro. Deep fruits, full body. (3349 views) | | Tasted by ThijsV on 8/28/2022 & rated 91 points: NOTK Spanish Grand Cru tasting (Supernova hotel, Rotterdam): Young and still a bit restrained, smokey, coffee, black currant, blueberries, potpourri. Medium+ tannins, medium+ finish. 91+ (2881 views) | | Tasted by levicn on 7/17/2022 & rated 89 points: 淡宝石红色,闻香有青味,梅果,和一些烘烤气息,入口酸度高,单宁紧涩,有颗粒感,口中红果香气为主,不知道为何觉得酒体有点分离感,不是特别集中,后段辛辣,红果味收尾,没有捕捉到更多的变化。不在最佳状态的一支酒。 (2432 views) | | Tasted by Yagil on 7/7/2022 & rated 92 points: deep purple pronounced aromas & flavors of black cherries, prunes, blueberries, oak-vanilla, tobacco, dark chocolate, forest floor, coffee, eucalyptus/mint, spices developing dry, high acidity, med+ tannins, high abv, full body, good complexity, long finish, can drink now - or age further requires 2 hours decanting (2299 views) | | Tasted by Dagalaifus on 5/28/2022 & rated 89 points: Dark Ruby with a nose and palate of black cherry, raspberry and oak. Medium-length finish. A good wine but with a middling QPR. The Termes from the same vintage and any of the URO wines, which populate Total’s shelves are better wines and better bargains from Toro. Off vintage? (2294 views) | | Tasted by catowne1 on 5/9/2022 flawed bottle: No score again. I am not sure if this is just a bad vintage, or maybe the case this bottle came from was cooked. Same notes as from when I tried this in April. The nose almost has a magic marker smell to it. Something is off. Not enjoyable to drink at all. (2024 views) | | Tasted by thitus on 5/6/2022 & rated 93 points: Ung, fyllig och kraftfull smak. Fortfarande lite oborstade tanniner, men stor potential. Nästa flaska bör öppnas först om sisĺdär fem ĺr. (1760 views) | | Tasted by bitdrerik on 4/26/2022 & rated 89 points: Vega Sicilia smakk og kvöldverđur á Hótel Edition (Hótel Edition): Frekar ljós litur. Mjög óvenjulegur litur fyrir Pintia. Súr lykt, súr eins og í Bordó? Dökkir tónar, súkkulađi, súkkulađikaka, mynta, sveit, anís, fjárhús, lakkrís og blóm (lofnarblóm). Mjög fínn ilmur. Ţegar var smakkađ á víninu ţá virtist ţađ vera frekar hrátt. Ţarna voru einhvers konar kjöttónar, blóđ. Talsverđ sćta líka í víninu. Mjög ólíkt ţeim árgöngum af Pintia sem ég hef smakkađ. Vantađi dökka tóna. Ţađ var samt engin augljós skemmd. Kannski var 2016 bara ekki góđur árgangur í Toro. (1676 views) | | Tasted by catowne1 on 4/9/2022: No score. Normally this is a favorite, but this bottle seemed off. Not sure that it was corked, but something didn’t seem right on the nose or the finish. (1703 views) | | Tasted by nemoneyo on 3/13/2022 & rated 93 points: Complex, worth its price (1627 views) | | Tasted by plitton on 2/15/2022: WOTN of the Spanish Tempranillo tasting. (1876 views) | | Tasted by gouldcampbell77 on 2/10/2022 & rated 89 points: Decanted 4hrs. Very dark and youthful ruby purple. Obviously very young. Nose of warm hedgerow fruit. On the palate, again that dark sweet fruit but more towards the red end of the spectrum. A bit confected - I'm vaguely reminded of Gummi Bears. Cherry Gummi Bears (if there is such a thing). Bit of a fruit bomb. Very pure and crisp and probably a bit young at the moment. I guess this could be very good with time (if you like liquid Haribos) but I'll never know because this is my one and only bottle and at this price, not a rebuy. I'd rather go for the more classically styled Alion from this stable for the same sort of money. (1866 views) | | Tasted by JazzManWine on 1/30/2022 & rated 93 points: Medium purple color. I second Jensago's notes. Layers of flavor, black cherrty, black currants, dense. It is medium bodied though somehow dense but not heavy. It was too young the first day. Better the second day, but needs more aging. For me at least two more years maybe more. I expect it will be a stately wine. (1952 views) | | Tasted by mukden on 1/29/2022 & rated 92 points: YES. Very very good…whole new experience for me, with these Spanish reds. Amazing perfumed aroma In the carafe, will real substance and lots of fruit. Seems still young but a wine of substance. (1760 views) | | Tasted by JensAgo on 12/22/2021 & rated 93 points: Stunning vintage of the Pintia! Deep, dense and dark ruby in appearance. Nose is expressive, black cherries and black currants, black pepper, hints of licorice, vanilla, integrated oak, a fair amount of smoke. Palate is full-bodied, juice as per nose - black berries, medium acidity, multi-layered, gentle tannins. Finish is ever-lasting, intense. Very accomodating today, to be cellared for 3-5 years. (2031 views) | | Tasted by Juliansi on 12/21/2021 & rated 87 points: Very generously opened by curious bro @[1|9482449|Mika Tyson Teau] to see what a young Pintia is like, I actually found it quite different from the 2015 I am used to enjoying. There was little nose at the onset, perhaps served overly cold. Red fruits were clear, but I am going to wait some more years to enjoy the next bottles!
This 2016 vintage is described as coming from a cooler and drier vintage, reducing its alcohol levels thus promoting more freshness. There's also American on top of French oak.
Dec 2021 (991 views) | | Tasted by Romol on 11/14/2021 & rated 91 points: Not decanted. Consumed over 2 days. A good Pintia. At the moment the 2016 is slighly less impressive than the 2015 witch is more aproachable, but I think the 2016 has more potential. I'm curious how this 2 vintages will be with more age. 91 pts. at the moment. (2201 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
| Bodegas Pintia Producer websiteSpain Vinos de Espańa - Wines of Spain (Instituto Espańol de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia Wine Map on weinlagen-info
Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net
Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial).
