(566 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 8/31/2021: Dark fruit, but pure back fruit without any funk to it. More stern on the palate, but not overly so, flush fruit to pull it through, depth as well. Again, good wine. (485 views) | | Tasted by F1NUT on 3/7/2021 & rated 85 points: This second bottle is in good condition. That's my luck right - not one out of a dozen but one out of two bottles that I bought. No Brett in this one.
The nose is very fruity but with a significant whiff of volatile acidity and alcohol and therein lies my ongoing problems with this wine. It is bright crunchy fruit in the raspberry, red cherry, pomegranate and currant spectrum and it has interest because of that mix of varieties including Carignan (old vines too).
But again on the palate the fruit is quickly overtaken by some 15% alc and the finish is hot with this alcohol and high acidity. More so because the wine lacks tannin. It would be much better at 14% alc even if the fruit was somewhat less ripe.
Its a pity because the fruit profile has interest but this wine is not for me. (339 views) | | Tasted by F1NUT on 3/1/2021 flawed bottle: The reviews of this sound promising but this bottle is not very nice. Bouquet is dark raspberry and black cherry, just what I like, however there is alcohol in abundance too. The palate delivers a somewhat medium bodied fruity wine of either high acidity or high alcohol or both. Its out of balance. After a half hour in the glass it is now obvious to me this wine has Brett. Its not high at this point but I would hate to think where this is going if I cellar it. Therefore drink up and the other bottle I bought (darn) before it tastes REALLY bad. (277 views) |
| Domaine des Escaravailles Producer websiteRed Rhone Blend Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
