Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 22 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by TWSA on 4/8/2024 & rated 85 points: Nose: spices, black fruits, licorice, cinnamon, dark chocolate
Notes: 13.5% ABV. Still very oak dominant at this moment. I've had plenty of Gibourg Mugneret by this time and I find this Domaine very difficult to open up and probably is a tad heavy in terms of winemaking. The heat in 2018 combined with the winemaking creates a disaster. This is quite unbalanced and simply too heavy, I don't mean this in a bad way but it probably will turn out sounding very bad but this is like a pinot from Napa. This might or might not gain the right amount of complexity and profile even with enough time, I remain skeptical but for the benefit of doubt I would suggest to approach this wine only after 2030.
Drink: 2030+

Tasted by EvoPeteMTL on 4/2/2024 & rated 93 points: I gotta say this one surprised me. I thought it would be super closed, but it's quite evolved. Definitely whole cluster. Some greenness. Good now but will be awesome in 5-10 years from now :) (997 views)
Tasted by vulgar little monkey on 3/30/2024 & rated 91 points: Exactly what I would expect at this point. An interesting comparison with the recent 2012 as this is showing much more of the rich fruit of youth as well as the vintage. Very silky and layered fruit with the Vosne spice but it did seem to hit a point where it stopped opening up. I think I'll check back in a few years, but I expect that this will be another fine vintage of Chaignots. (817 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 3/10/2024 & rated 93 points: Mugneret-Gibourg NSG Les Chaignots 2018.
93-94p (938 views)

 Tasted by pren on 10/5/2023 & rated 91 points: 尝。类似前面的leroux,颜色很深,rich,厚,不太precise,不甜。半小时后,非常甜。价格是个笑话 (1301 views)
Tasted by KVM on 4/28/2023: Dark red. Nose started modestly but blossomed with cherry and cream over 3 hours. Dark cherry, cranberry and a savoury streak, too. Sweetly balanced with suave tannin. Long finish. A raging young beauty! (1618 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 11/12/2022 & rated 93 points: Mugneret-Gibourg NSG Chaignots 2018.
Søstrene leverer i 2018 også.
Fortsatt elegant og parfymert.
Mer formfull og mørkere i frukten en andre årganger, men dette er digg juice.
Bra med stuffing i silkeføret.
Bør lagre bra dette her.
Nydelig finish - bra nok struktur til å holde seg fokusert.
Flott lengde.
Vokser vanvittig i glasset. 93p (2056 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 11/3/2022 & rated 94 points: 2022 Excellent Burgundy Adventure; 10/31/2022-11/6/2022 (Burgundy): Expressive nose displaying opulent black fruit, blackberry concentrate, black cherry, licorice, lavender, caramel, grilled cep and mineral. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated black fruit, rich and opulent, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long opulent black fruit driven finish with grilled cep and licorice at the end. This is a very generous and opulent style of wine that is drinking really well in a very youthful way. (3269 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 5/31/2022: Poured by the glass from a Coravin’d bottle. Full, deep ruby. Explosive aromas of ripe red berry and moderate oak later joined by cooler scents of green. To be honest, I probably would have guessed New World Pinot from the first whiff. Medium weight. Lush, succulent red fruit and delightful spice that is somehow reined in by excellent acidity, light soil, and ripe tannins so that it seems round but not fat or heavy. At 4 years of age, it is still very much in its baby fat stage. It may or may not ever turn into more classic Nuits, but that glorious fruit will carry it forward for many years. (2656 views)
Tasted by Mag357 on 3/19/2022: La Paulee NYC 2022 walkaround tasting
Close to Vosne, but Nuits in character, very energetic wine, dense, 14 deg alcohol, yet does not show alcohol or heat, dense with serious dry tannins at the end and with a slight bitterness. In need of cellar time. (2128 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/12/2022 & rated 91 points: La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers - New York NY): Walk around tasting. This wine typically Vosne and NSG characteristics in a very elegant manner, but this vintage seems much more Nuits with firm black fruit, roasted meat and burly textures. Very powerful, but backward for now, better 2030 forward, 91-92 point potential. (2628 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 1/15/2022 & rated 93 points: Quickie drink in the neighbourhood. Tasted blind. Drank in Zalto Burg.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of fragrant violets, purple fruits, boysenberries, sweet cherries lightly candied. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, soft medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of light spice, boysenberries, purple fruits, black cherries, sweet dark red cherries. Long finish.
Very good quality. Dark fruited but still exudes a transparent feel to the style. Probably due to the ripe vintage which I guessed correctly as 2018. Lovely nose. Quite drinkable now already, though more age development will certainly reap more rewards. (2413 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 4/25/2021: Ikke like åpen som forrige flaske, men fortsatt slående vakker. (2997 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 8/23/2020 & rated 94 points: Dette er definisjonen av sexy!
Parfyme, spice, candyshop og knallrød i frukten.
Elegant og vakkert med stor intensitet.
Mye lysere i uttrykket enn 2009.
Fyrer på alle sylindre.
Bør testes nå (for de få som har mulighet) mens den vitale ungdommeligheten er på topp.
Drikkeglede her er 100p
Er som å være nyforelsket.
Dybden er kanskje ikke på nivå med en Franco 2010, men spiller ingen rolle - for meg kveldens største pleaser.
Lang med de fineste tanniner. 94p (3505 views)
Tasted by acyso on 2/13/2020 & rated 93 points: Burgundy, Day 3 (Beaune, France): Barrel sample. A wine that shows both the terroir and the house style. There's attenuated spice here, but in exchange you do get a little more of a rustic earth profile. On the palate, this isn't as earthy and potent as you might expect from Nuits; you get more of a Vosne-like elegance to this wine (I'm not complaining). The tannins on the back end were still pretty intense, but time will certainly help sort that out. (4285 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 2/13/2020: Barrel tasting at Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg (Vosne Romanee): Full nose of black cherry with some earthy musky tones not present in the Vosne wines though this still brings some Vosne spice. A step up in richness and power while retaining a silky, elegant composition. Expressive spice throughout. 92-94 (2343 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 1/13/2020 & rated 92 points: Rather expressive on the nose, notes of dark fruit, hints of cherries, spices, crushed stones. Good concentration and ripeness, but not sweet or heavy with good acidity and depth. Nice tannic bite towards the mineral finish. Very nice. 91-92+ (2690 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 11/28/2019: Mugneret-Gibourg 2018 barrel tasting: Black cherries, spices, ripe. (1811 views)
Tasted by Jammy Wine on 11/12/2019 & rated 88 points: A generous yield in 2018 - 22 barrels produced (38hl/ha in 2018 compared to 18-20hl/ha in 2019). 50% new oak. Les Chaignots has great sun exposure. Good intensity of dark berries, fragrant spices and toast with structured backbone. (88/100) (1789 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 11/8/2019: Visit to Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg for a Tasting of 2018's from Barrel (Vosne-Romanée, France): Barrel sample. Deeply saturated. Green scents. Immediately rounder and richer than either of the Vosnes. Delicious, perfectly ripe red and black fruit, moderate level of acidity, gorgeous mouth feel, and an earthy finish that lasted 40 seconds. Unusually refined Nuits with great depth and decades of potential, which is not to say that it won't be enjoyable earlier. (1706 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 7/4/2019: Barrel tasting at Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg (Vosne Romanee): 50% new oak. Beaming full nose of black cherry and Vosne spice. The palate is rich and dense with more ripeness/fullness vs. the 2017 as you'd expect. But still quite fresh and in balance. 93+ (1150 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

Burgundy Report | Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne - na stejné téma od Heleny Baker

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
