Tasted by StefanAkiko on 5/9/2024 & rated 87 points: At plop: a dark-berried broad-shouldered Sangiovese.

After a few hours in the decanter: a Chianti emerges.

This is basically a run-of-the-mill product, but it has to have been made with love and care.

Our go-to Chianti any day of the pizza week!

If you're stashed: absolutely no stress as this will improve for many years and keep longer. (254 views)
Tasted by Wine Poor on 5/7/2024 & rated 89 points: Nice pairing with Mediterranean cuisine (216 views)
Tasted by Kjetil Rinde on 2/6/2024 & rated 86 points: Moden (559 views)
Tasted by Yaozi on 1/11/2024 & rated 92 points: Agree with MHBeaune although decanting is unnecessary. This is a gorgeous, relatively inexpensive Sangiovese that is just totally lovely to drink now. Perhaps it will be good for several years, but the fruit is so wonderful it would be hard to put it aside. No significant tannins, but the wine is well structured and well-balanced, especially if you appreciate a wine with plenty of available dark fruit. If you can still find this I totally recommend, and the newer vintages appear to have slightly higher ratings on this website. Yummy. (700 views)
Tasted by WY Leonidas on 1/7/2024 & rated 84 points: Garnet. Sangiovese character, cherries, old wood, dust. Medium body, with fairly prominent leathery tannins. Lacks fruit and especially lacking in character beyond those mentioned. Tastes old and past it's prime.

Maybe this was a bad bottle? Cork had a good seal... (656 views)
Tasted by Mhbeaune on 12/3/2023 & rated 92 points: Amazing value. Delicate nose after 3 hour decant and served at about 18c. Smooth entry obviously Sangiovese as expected but smoother than many at this price level. As it warmed up the forward fruit became much more obvious without any sign of tannins. EXCELLENT for it’s level. (733 views)
Tasted by Mhbeaune on 8/30/2023 & rated 90 points: Decanted for 2 hours served at around 18c.
Needed at least a 3 hour decant.
Started off at about 88 with a dry finish after an hour in the glass became much smoother with stronger fruit in the mouth and a nice smooth follow through (1183 views)
Tasted by albertoelli on 7/8/2023 & rated 90 points: Very balanced true Chianti Riserva (1189 views)
Tasted by StewartWent on 7/2/2023 & rated 89 points: An old fashioned dry that is hard not to like. Some wood, feels old, and dry palate filling tannin. No agressive mind you, rather just makes its presence felt. I'd expect this to get to 10yrs without too much fuss. (1120 views)
Tasted by StefanAkiko on 5/26/2023: Celebrating Mori sensei achieveing 6 dan kendo at Komakine.

A tight tannic structure completely without that fuss of stewed fruits or concentration. Beautifully tannic and pure. Will be better off in 5 years and probably pulling its weight up to 20.

1st btl of 6. (1405 views)
Tasted by footloosiety on 4/14/2023 & rated 82 points: Relatively inexpensive, but IMO it's not as good as a Carpineto at the same price point.
Was better on day two, but still not something I'd buy again. (1658 views)
Tasted by Pipes&Pips on 4/12/2023 & rated 85 points: Decent chianti at this price point. Will keep some on hand among other value wines for pizza & pasta night. (1211 views)
Tasted by K&Bwines on 3/4/2023 & rated 88 points: Black cherry , earth, subtle spice. Lighter fruits on finish. (1235 views)
Tasted by jonr on 2/25/2023 & rated 87 points: As always, a good wine. Rufina freschness. (1200 views)
Tasted by brujazz on 2/1/2023 & rated 82 points: If you walk into Costco you will always find a massed produce, pizza/spaghetti wine at $15 or less that offers moreChianti enjoyment than this bottling. Its not bad, but not particularly good either. (1343 views)
 Tasted by 8RL on 1/29/2023: D96 JS92 (1136 views)
Tasted by Mtnmd1 on 1/17/2023 & rated 90 points: Good fruit/acid balance. Excellent QPR (1254 views)
Tasted by cacastine on 12/23/2022 & rated 88 points: Pleasant nose on open, hints of plum, cherry, leather, light spice on the palate and an underlying hint of bitterness. Light earthiness and tobacco, tinges of wet stone. Nice wine for the price, does not hold up well to time and air. (1008 views)
Tasted by Douglas Lundeen on 10/31/2022: I'm a big Chianti fan and buy a case each year of "normale" bottlings from my favorite organic/biodynamic producers: Castellare di Castellina, Felsina, Rodano, Podere il Palazzino, Badia a Coltibuono and Selvapiana, which is the only Rùfina in the group. Decided to give this a try side by side with the Selvapiana to start to get a broader picture of the Rùfina terroir. The website says "sustainable" as opposed to organic and for the same price, I feel the Selvapiana offers more terroir and nuance. (1371 views)
Tasted by hoservin on 10/24/2022 & rated 88 points: Popped and poured. Nose of black cherry, tobacco leaf and dried herbs. Black and red fruit, herbs, mineral and fine tannins on the palate. Good persistence. Medium to full bodied. Served with ravioli, meatballs and marinara sauce. (768 views)
Tasted by Risky on 9/13/2022 & rated 88 points: Heavy body, slightly tart, slight cranberry (1238 views)
Tasted by Dugis on 8/14/2022 & rated 86 points: Subtle oak. Smooth tannins. Soft. Berries (1509 views)
Tasted by ChristopherB on 7/22/2022: Not ideal circumstances for a tasting. Tasted with J, O and Mr. O and O. An ok rather easy version of this. I've had other vintages that were more structured and more to my liking. That being said, it was a good wine overall, if a little simple in this vintage. 87-88 (1585 views)
Tasted by macaujames on 6/25/2022 & rated 88 points: 88/89. I agree this wine is nice but nothing more. It has aromas of raspberries, graphite, iron, cherries and earth. Its medium bodied a bit chunky, rustic lightly oaked raspberry+cherry fruits palate has good freshness and mediumish and a bit unknit finish. 13.5%. This had a couple of hours aeration. Lay down 5-10 years for this to develop. Not great value at 16 Euros. This is a bit disappointing. (2143 views)
Tasted by Dominic Roy on 6/25/2022 & rated 86 points: Nose: Raspberry. Sour cherry. Raisin. Medium intensity.

Palate: Red fruits. Slightly herbaceous. Medium minus body. Medium acidity. Medium plus tannins. Medium minus intensity. Medium finish. (1572 views)

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
