Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 95 pts. and median of 95 pts. in 83 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by dcwino on 5/10/2024 & rated 94 points: Medium expressive nose displaying pure but sour red fruit, raspberry, maraschino cherry, light caramel, some, cooper, spearmint and limestone. Very good concentration, sweet and sour red fruit, generous but slightly coarse mousse, good energy and focus, bright acidity, limestone mineral, and a medium to long sour red fruit driven finish with copper at the end. I wish it is a bit more creamy and elegant. I need to revisit soon. (891 views)
Tasted by Charlie Carnes on 4/24/2024 & rated 97 points: This was a really exceptional. Every now and then Dom rosé can be a little bit of a head scratcher. I have loved many bottles though. I believe this is the first 2008 I’ve drunk. It was bristling with freshness, and energy and tons of deep, dark, red strawberries, and a little rhubarb. It was braced with beautiful minerals, rock dust maybe some deep dark purple/red clay. It frank terrifically as it was bright and ebullient. I really liked it. (1228 views)
Tasted by bigpapasquid on 4/23/2024: Won't score....this particular bottle wasn't giving much. May need to revisit in a couple years. (1120 views)
Tasted by steinersing on 3/15/2024 & rated 96 points: Very deep and brooding - well made - would wait to open (1792 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 3/5/2024 & rated 94 points: Epic night at Capasso. Tasted blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, reddish pink colour. Thin legs. Frothy bubbles.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of fruity expressive cherries, strawberries, fresh red apples, oyster-shell mineral undertow. Developing.
On the palate, dry, soft high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), soft medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of fruity strawberries, peaches, red apples, red cherries, raspberry. Lovely long finish.
Very good quality. So fruity expressive on pop and pour already. Nothing shy at all here. Much unlike the 2008 Dom Pérignon Champagne. (2188 views)
Tasted by GuanYu on 2/15/2024 & rated 97 points: I drank the Lady Gaga limited edition 11 months ago. It was identical wine except for the packaging and label.

Medium rose gold, pink salmon color with fine, vigorous bubbles. Citrus, raspberry, unripe strawberry, white peach and nuts. Medium to medium-full bodied, high acidity, medium structure, medium alcohol and very long finish. Crisp, smooth and well-balanced.

Wine had evolved a little since 11 months ago. It had become a little rounder and felt less acidic on the palate; otherwise similar notes. Every time we popped open a bottle, it made everyone in the room festive. A true mood-lifting magic potion. (2168 views)
Tasted by Francophile1 on 2/11/2024: Super Bowl LVIII 2024 (Alpharetta, GA): Starter wine #3: Once it was served at the right temperature, this was rocking and reconfirms how much I love Rose Champagne. Delicious! (2319 views)
Tasted by mark2eye on 2/10/2024: Medium acid and a touch of balsamic and soy sauce. Drinking well but not as expressive as the bottle I had from a year ago. Perhaps going through a dumb phase? (1918 views)
Tasted by RobinTeo on 2/8/2024 & rated 95 points: Sushi Katori: First time trying the Rose and I see why the premium is substantial but yet substantiated. Expressive and balanced from the get go with cherries, raspberries and dried flowers on the bouquet with strawberry cream mousse, blood orange with a touch of salinity on the palate. Beautifully balanced and elegant but obviously still a baby with a ton of structure. Fine tannins and lovely texture on the mid-palate. This is not only incredibly fresh but well textured and in line with the wonderful year that 2008 is, am excited to see how this develops further! (1275 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 2/4/2024 & rated 94 points: Deliciously crips, cherry red fruit, sweet with good acidity. 94+ (1891 views)
Tasted by kr522 on 1/27/2024 & rated 98 points: Great again….perfect balance. I find I prefer the rose which for me has wonderful complexity and fruit (1742 views)
Tasted by HalaniMD on 1/19/2024 & rated 96 points: Enjoyed this to celebrate signing a new job contract—the color description that I read in multiple places of a salmon/orange is spot on. The mousse is spectacular and this wine is insanely fresh for being 15 years old. On the nose, strawberry and raspberry and the palate mirrors this with a way more creamy and savory feel to it. Price tag was high and not sure I would buy again but a great event-worthy celebratory experience. Enjoyed over two days and it only got better at day 2. Many recommend enjoying it at a less cold temperature and I think this lets the wine flex more of its muscles. Beautiful experience! (1577 views)
Tasted by jsmadsen on 1/15/2024: Surprisingly unapproachable (unlike the beguiling 2008 Dom blanc)—muscular, a little bitter, and demanding—here’s to hoping a few more years make these bottles more enjoyable (1642 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 1/11/2024 flawed bottle: Dom Perignon Tasting (Winter Village at the Westin, Edina, MN): corked (1690 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 1/11/2024 & rated 98 points: Dom Perignon Tasting (Winter Village at the Westin, Edina, MN): Pale salmon color. Drank a glass over an hour plus. PN59 (including 11% still wine), C41, 12 yrs on lees. We had the opportunity to drink this again after a glass a few months ago at Moet & Chandon. That experience was wonderful and left us wanting for more. Tonight the roles were slightly reversed with the '08 Rose just eclipsing the P2. The nose has a glorious perfume, wafting of yeast, dried flowers, mixed red berries, almond cream, tangerine, cherry, and sea breezes. The palate is intense yet so refined and blissful, candied strawberry, framboise, tangerine, blood orange, almond, creamy, fine minerality, well toasted, long an supple on the finish. Gorgeous.  Tasted by darrennelson12 on 1/1/2024 & rated 96 points: Two bottles on new years day .. great as always .. love the 08 rose, nice strawberry notes .. will keep buying and adding ti the cellar (1680 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 12/31/2023: First time trying this. There is an elegance here, married with some of the residual barrique tones that inform the aromatics. With air, I perceived this to tighten up and the structure to me was evident, which is impressive given the 15th birthday this now has enjoyed. There is a lot of mineral here, with even a savory undertone coming through the red fruit. I neither took notes on this last night nor do I have anything left to taste today, but I would like to visit this wine again, over a few days to really see how it evolves. At the price point this sells for, and given the vintage rep, I doubt I will ever do that as I'd probably just rather do as my generous friend did last night: bring it to dinner, share with 4 people and just enjoy it.  Tasted by essenceofreal on 12/27/2023 & rated 91 points: Drank over 3 days. 91 is when it was at its best.

Started out as a 50 yard model. Super interesting at a distance. Lets give this a better look. Upon so, it turns out was a wanna be coke ho on a chain smoking binge. So not what it was cracked up to be. This had a metallic twang to it which was not so pleasant.

Second day kinda got worse. Third day undrinkable.

This was so disappointing. The Laurent Perrier rose I had the day before was better!! (1679 views)
Tasted by sdr on 12/2/2023 & rated 95 points: This glorious DPR has turned the corner and is deliciously ripe and ready in its exuberant youth. Loaded with red cherry and strawberry fruit. This acidity no longer sticks out. Medium full weight and full flavored. (2180 views)
Tasted by Sean Tay on 11/29/2023 & rated 96 points: Medium+ nose intensity with notes of strawberry, cherry, toast, mineral, yeast. Already drinking well now. (1975 views)
Tasted by Francophile1 on 11/27/2023 & rated 96 points: I really enjoyed this slowly over the course of my evening. As it warms up to room temp, it really opens up and has an incredible nose and the complexity of the finish starts to shine. The color is an interesting salmon orange color. I recommend serving this from 50-60 degrees. Delicious! (2046 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 11/16/2023: Tete de Cuvee Rose Tasting (Brookhaven, GA): Great nose, sexy, doughy, creamy with laser precision, zippy and driven on the palate, great balance and contender for WOTN; Krug right? (1638 views)
Tasted by RAB007 on 11/5/2023 & rated 98 points: Excellent bottle. Color had an odd, but very attractive pink orange hue. Strawberries and raspberries, but more -- maybe kiwi and/or passion fruit. On the palate full-bodied and with substantial backbone. In Reims this would be served with steak. A great Champagne from a house and tete de cuvee which often disappoint -- well that may be a bit harsh, let's say, 'fails to meet my expectations or IMHO match the hype associated with the Monk' (2343 views)
Tasted by Cailles on 11/3/2023 & rated 97 points: Luck has it, that I‘ve tasted this for the second time in just a month. The first bottle (rated 93pts) was a bit tight and closed. This bottle, however, was a revelation: right from the start this is expressive, complex and with a laser sharp precision. The well-integrated 2008 acidity makes this so easy to drink and it showed so much DP typicité. Despite being still young, this was superb and among the very best 2008 I‘ve had to date (most big names I’ve tasted so far were too young and tight).

TN: Intoxicating, expressive from start to finish. Layers of highly precise aromas with nutty, herbal notes, minerality, fresh orchard fruit and a beautiful brioche component. The sharpness is impressive, the piercing acidity the highlight, the length amazing and the overall balance couldn’t be much better. Despite being young, this bottle was so open and lots of fun to drink. 96/97pts.

Decanting: Not decanted. This needed just a few minutes in the glass to open up. (2447 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 10/28/2023 & rated 97 points: La Fête du Champagne Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Walkaround tasting with the producers. The 2009 was fun, this is absolutely attention grabbing. Precise and rich with so much minerality and acidity carrying it even further. Great now with lots of upside. (1510 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
