Tasted by bobbylion on 7/15/2023 & rated 91 points: This was half bottle, spending 10 days in the fridge. It was probably higher at the onset, but this rating is for longevity. If you told me this was tondonia reserva or Musar I would absolutely believe it. Seems to go forever. Still some salt, wax, nice fullness and even low background acidity. All combined with beautiful sweetness. Amazing after 10 days open bottle. (612 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 5/16/2022 & rated 92 points: Good white CdP-a marathon runner, gaining complexity, but not weight. Needs some air and only light chilling. Slight minerality and saltiness in the background (1387 views)
Tasted by Jen & Bob's Cellar on 11/12/2021 & rated 90 points: Perfect pairing with sushi! (1477 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 9/5/2020 & rated 92 points: This is from their website from July 2020 vertical

(62% Roussanne, 26% Grenache Blanc, 12% Picpoul Blanc): Nice richness on the nose, honey and lacquered wood, nectarine and white flowers, with a sweet green note like newly cut grass. On the palate, both fruity and yeasty: imagine pineapple upside down cake, but dry. Tremendous texture. Lingering flavors of honeycomb and candied orange peel, enlivened by fresh green herbs on the long, focused finish. A great showing for this wine, which like the 2007 I often found in its youth so dense that it was easier to admire than love.

For me it certainly isn’t heavy. After months of burgundies I was craving for somewhat less acidity and more butter. This hits the spot. If you like the white CdP this is certainly a nice relatively light version, entering its secondary stage.

Day two and it loses some fruit, turning more into Tondonia-like white. I think this means it has good 5 years on this plateau. Good. (1923 views)
Tasted by E&S WineDown on 7/11/2020 & rated 91 points: A lovely, balanced and mature summer white. Was amazing with both a dijon vinagrette on our salad as well as red snapper en papillote. Full flavored, still showing good acidity and long finish. (1914 views)
Tasted by Order66 on 3/28/2020 & rated 94 points: Tasty and fragrant. Scents of lanolin, honey, peaches, marigolds and a superb texture. Very rich, while maintaining clean poise. A good testament to what Roussanne can do with a little help and a bit of age. I’m sure this will only get better with another 3-5 years. (1832 views)
Tasted by dankrems on 3/21/2020 & rated 92 points: 2 hour decant. Lemongrass, limestone, mint, meringue. Really good (1338 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 3/3/2020 & rated 93 points: After 4 days in the fridge, it has the consistency and viscocity of a good Hermitage blanc. Was once again WOTN last Saturday, where well-preserved Serre Nouve from a good year was put aside even for cheese course in favor of this. I think this has another 3-5 years to go. See no fading at all. 92-93 (1224 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 11/29/2019 & rated 92 points: An hour decant. Pretasting this for Lebanese food party tomorrow. Should do well with falafel, babaganoush and co. Remains complex and not at all over the hill. Nice acidity and nutty ripe fruit flavors. Long finish. (1080 views)
Tasted by DickMull on 8/2/2019 & rated 93 points: PnP and enjoyed for about an hour and a half. Great complexity on the nose, with scents of caramel, honey, honeysuckle flower, watermelon rind and a touch of strawberry and smoke. The palate is slightly waxy, but also has a acidic “zing” that others have referred to as well. Ripe cantaloupe, white peach, grilled lemon, and a bit of green apple flavors coat the tongue. The finish is a touch short, and I’m not sure how much more time this one has, but right now it is delicious! (1162 views)
Tasted by wilypod on 5/13/2019 & rated 93 points: I opened this bottle in early February and immediately poured half into a clean airtight 375 ml bottle. I opened that 375 today and was stunned to find the wine in perfect condition.

Honeycomb, Robertson's Seville Orange Marmalade, and a faint spritz tingle on opening. There was a whiff of oxidation that evolved into a terrific and complex roasted almond nuttiness mingled with white flowers and ripe peach and some other notes typical of Riesling with noble botrytis. I am enjoying this unexpectedly and immensely.

This is not the first time I have had an older wine that on opening struck me as past prime and then experienced resurrection. Reminds me a bit of the TCV 2008 Esprit Rouge in that respect.

Tablas Creek recently blogged about on the surprising ageability of Roussanne based wines, like this one. I find it true. The downside is unpredictability. (1240 views)
Tasted by stayhappy21 on 2/26/2019 & rated 91 points: Brought this to Cafe de Hong Kong last night to share with a group of wine enthusiasts.

Dark gold in colour with notes of honeysuckle, white flowers, ripe pineapples, fresh tropical fruits and a touch of honeycomb. Lush, heavy, with a clear focus, this wine is delightful with food and amazing on its own.

The wine went brilliantly with the smoked duck and stirred fried vegetables with anchovies. (1375 views)
Tasted by dlduchon on 10/31/2018 & rated 89 points: Spritzy wine, a bit odd at first. Delightful balance, and the spritz adds to its complexity. Earthy and savory, not Fruity, more austere minerality. (1574 views)
Tasted by stayhappy21 on 4/13/2018 & rated 88 points: Drank this at Lao Beijing with 2 close colleagues.

Presented the wine as a good produce from a famed producer. Yellow in colour with considerable weight on the palate. On the nose the wine is tight with limited extraction of flavours. The taste profile presents notes of peach, apricot, green apples, lemon tart and Asian pears.

Had higher expectations of this wine and the performance of this label is consistently somewhat inconsistent over the years. (1848 views)
Tasted by acidqueen on 4/10/2018: This one was too oxidized. Not rated (1787 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 11/18/2017 & rated 91 points: WIML91

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over a couple of hours.

Yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of ginger, lemon curd and wet stones. Flavors of apricots, peach wasser and minerals. Medium acidity, medium to full bodied. Drink now. (2104 views)
Tasted by dubdub on 8/5/2017: This still needs time. Some typical nougat on the nose, but there is some alcohol present, as well in the mouth. Stone fruit, melon. Give this some more years to integrate fully. (2231 views)
Tasted by ashikoh on 7/27/2017 & rated 86 points: Moderate golden hue. Honey, baked apple, lemon curd, ginger, and some oxidative notes on the nose with a crisp, acid driven palate and mineral finish. Blend of 62% Roussane, 26% Grenache Blanc, and 12% Picpoul Blanc propagated from budwood cuttings from the Château de Beaucastel estate. Consumed from a 375 mL, this is at the end of its aging curve in this format. (1841 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 7/21/2017 & rated 91 points: Really like this. Rich dark yellow color, north Rhone taste - almost honey-like. Really complex and enjoyable white. Not a summer quaff though. (1489 views)
Tasted by acidqueen on 6/11/2017 & rated 92 points: Golden. Great stone fruits, wax, and citrus. This has aged nicely. Rich, but balanced. (1708 views)
Tasted by tcarter on 4/2/2017 & rated 89 points: Past its prime. (1769 views)
Tasted by MichielV on 3/26/2017 & rated 89 points: W bacin wrapped cod, brusselssprouts at Rudy and Jenny. Disappointing. Maybe this wasnt a good combo or maybe should have decanted longer. This was spritzzy out of bottle. As we agreed even when it settled down it wasnt talking to me. Maybe it need pork to work. I generally like the TC white wines and pair well with food. The age chart from winery recommends decant. (1402 views)
Tasted by Dr. Claret on 1/29/2017 & rated 90 points: I'm not sure what happened with the previous reviews. This bottle was excellent. Nice nose, smells like pear compote with some floral components. Flavor profile: pear on the front end with a bit of butterscotch, Nice acidity, , just a well done wine. Color was yellow gold with a slight oakiness on the finish. Really enjoyed this. (1688 views)
Tasted by tcarter on 12/12/2016 & rated 89 points: I think this one is past its prime. Seems like I have fonder memories of it in years past. Drank from a 375ml. (1751 views)
Tasted by finewinebuff57 on 8/30/2016 & rated 87 points: I agree with tcarter's recent review on this wine and it mirrors my own inconsistent experience with the Tablas Esprit Blanc (they have now dropped the Beaucastel description). I sat next to the charming Jason Haas at a London tasting and at its best this is an outstanding wine. This bottle definitely past its best. (1922 views)

Tablas Creek

Producer website
Tablas Creek Vineyard, founded by the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas of Vineyard Brands, is dedicated to growing grape varieties traditional to France's Rhone Valley. The partners chose hilly western Paso Robles for its limestone soils, rugged terrain, and ocean influence. All Tablas Creek wines are estate grown using environmentally sustainable practices.

White Rhone Blend

A white wine containing two or more Rhône varieties, including: Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
