Tasted by maxmanx on 2/23/2014: Really nice grenache-based blend at a very nice price- $29. (2774 views)
Tasted by maxmanx on 6/9/2013: Really nice bottle and ready to drink. Even my SO who prefers Napa Cabs enjoyed it. (3098 views)
Tasted by samiamx_1999 on 6/1/2012 & rated 92 points: Took this to a blind Grenache wine tasting with about ten competing bottles and this won! : ) (3987 views)
Tasted by alpha_ori on 3/4/2012 & rated 93 points: Gorgeous expression of New World grenache. (4209 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 10/30/2011 & rated 92 points: Johnny brought this into the Grill to sample.
Super ripe. Grape focus and super juicy milky chocolate.
Voluptuous heady spice. Balance and finesse. A nice burning sensation on the back end from the high alcohol - but it's enjoyable.
Really yummy and fun wine. A treat for the price. (4614 views)
Tasted by samiamx_1999 on 5/29/2011 & rated 91 points: I previously reviewed this wine. Held up and bested a high end Denner Zin and a Foxen Sangiovese tonight. Really drinking well now, primo, I'd say. Nice weight, full, and good fruit. Didn't notice any tannins this time. (2892 views)
 Tasted by tp096255 on 3/1/2011 & rated 91 points: ---
COLOR: Brilliant deep ruby
NOTE: Nose is rich red berry liqueurs with a slightly off-putting seaweed note. Brings down the score by a point at least. Mouth still has seaweed throughout but the strong black & red fruit liqueur wins and carries the opulent finish. A little weird and not what I remember from the first bottle.

Tasted by tairanosaurus on 10/29/2010 & rated 92 points: Pop and pour. On the nose, black fruit reduction and woody stems. in the mouth, first notice big black cherry and pomegranite as my primary fruit. Midpalate fruit is joined with tobacco and juniper. Long aftertaste of dark fruit mixed with wet soil. A prominent acidity carries through for a long time. It's not subtle, but it really makes me feel like I'm tasting "fruit grown in a place." This is already opening up a good amount compared to my first bottle a year back. (2735 views)
Tasted by wineguy58 on 7/2/2010 & rated 95 points: Starting to tame with food. Great wine (2992 views)
Tasted by cvvhrn on 5/3/2010: Rating defered. It needs alot of time yet. Even after 4 hours of decanting it was still tight. I will let the other two bottles sit a couple of years before opening again (3402 views)
Tasted by jdholder on 4/27/2010 & rated 92 points: Succulent and smooth - the wife loved it. Rich and strong with cherry and black currant. (3352 views)
Tasted by wineguy58 on 4/13/2010 & rated 95 points: By far the best Grenache interpretation I've ever had. It is still a baby and needs some bottle age. Trust me and wait until 2012. Very balanced with supple tannins. Black Cherries and fresh plum with a hint of smoke from a fresh match. Great fresh palate throughout and hides the alcohol well. (3176 views)
Tasted by greensnacks on 1/20/2010 & rated 92 points: Being a huge fan of grenache, I was excited to try the Sans Liege Pickpocket. The big alcohol (16.2%) somewhat overpowered the fruit, but was still an excellent example of what a grenache should be. Notes of black cherry stood out nicely after opening an hour or so. (3518 views)
Tasted by greening on 1/16/2010 & rated 93 points: Rich and strong, this is a classic grenache and quite good, with flavors of black fruit and cedar. (3819 views)
Tasted by jdholder on 1/16/2010 & rated 91 points: Much fruitier than I have been drinking recently. Plum and currant. It mellowed a bit and became better integrated the longer it sat over an hour or two. It's drinking well now. (3718 views)
Tasted by Frijole on 1/5/2010: deep dark burgundy red, slightly cloudy, silvery edges
Nose: deep berries, chalk, earth, vanilla, cola
Pal: tart blackberries, cigars, earth, vanilla, cola, arugula, mustard, black pepper, white pepper, anise, sage
Feel: full, savory, mild integrated tannins
Finish: very long

Tasted by samiamx_1999 on 12/31/2009 & rated 91 points: Very excited to try this guys stuff and recently acquired it. Also, seeing as I am the first reviewer, would like to get some info out there for y'all holding bottles! Pressure is on!? Popped and poured, sans food. Nice nose, subdued but vibrant fruit, not huge. The nose and palate are amazingly paired, congruent, for you math folks. Big but dense fruit on the palate with mild tannins that loom larger as one progresses through the bottle. Good mouth feel. Heavy for a 100% grenache, (great!), almost seems like there is a touch of something else blended in. Finish is not long. Halfway through the bottle, nose is expanding, little heat on the nose, 16.2% alcohol. Seems to be hitting the palate a bit too now. Perhaps the chill is dissipating. Going to finish tomorrow and supplement these notes. At this point though, would be great with steak (food wine for sure), and no hurry to drink this stuff, may need to integrate a bit more. Next day - held up and was basically the same sans the alcohol heat at room temperature. In thinking about it, the density of this wine reminds me of the Beckmen Purisima Vineyard stuff, but without their characteristic flavor that I do not dig. (3531 views)
Tasted by jaimeclewis on 10/22/2009 & rated 91 points: Wow, if this doesn't scream Westside Paso from the first sip. Pickpocket has a really focused nose with black cherry, earth, and even patchouli. Lots of blackberry and (sorry) acai berry on the palate.

Note: this winery is a client of my company's, but the notes are entirely my own. (1068 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
