Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/2/2022 & rated 89 points: Stag's Leap Library Wine Tasting (Heritage Gallery - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting, direct from winery. Bigger and funner fruit vs 2015 with the benefit of a bit more graceful aging. (2385 views)
Tasted by shjkwine on 12/17/2021 & rated 90 points: Very flavorful despite suboptimal storage. Spicy, berry, fruity (1903 views)
Tasted by shjkwine on 12/17/2021 & rated 90 points: Very flavorful despite suboptimal storage. Spicy, berryxm, fruity (1880 views)
Tasted by Falstad on 11/14/2021 & rated 96 points: Har haft sin peak men var fortfarande riktigt bra. Mogen. (1984 views)
Tasted by Peter Weltman on 7/30/2021 & rated 88 points: long finish, very good, mix of primary red and some cooked red fruits, some oak, some oxidation (strawberry liquorice/cough syrup on the palate which is a bit disappointing), some vegetal and leaves. Drink now- don't age, no primary left.
The wine looks ruby colored. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like strawberry, blackberry, strawberry jam and sherry. The body is medium. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity. (2144 views)
Tasted by edtonn on 12/14/2019 & rated 93 points: Very smooth (2800 views)
Tasted by jsporkin on 9/14/2019 & rated 92 points: Bright, dark fruit, beautiful wine. Paired perfectly with grilled ribeye (2704 views)
Tasted by Hmbjww on 7/21/2019: I agree with other comments - no nose, flat taste, zero tannins. It’s beyond it’s useable age, and it was stored at 58 degrees in a humidity controlled environment. The cork was like-new minus the mahogany end from contact with the wine (2814 views)
Tasted by yoabear on 6/17/2019: I like it, after it opened up. A little flat, not much nose and sort of watery. (2822 views)
Tasted by pgrzesik on 5/8/2019 & rated 85 points: I don't know if I had a different experience from everyone else but this has to be one of the worst wines I have had this year. There is nothing going on with the nose, it was flat. The palate is full bodied, but no taste what so ever. It again was flat, no vibrancy, no life. Gave it some time to see if it opened up - but nothing.

Maybe I had a flawed bottle, but overall really poor. First time trying Artemis and will be my last. (2752 views)
Tasted by Kerino on 3/10/2019 flawed bottle: Horrid (1597 views)
Tasted by marko13 on 10/14/2018: Nice (1799 views)
Tasted by xbrxx on 10/7/2018: Not a fan at all. No body or structure. Tannins were almost nonexistant. Pass (1629 views)
Tasted by JHuseby1 on 10/1/2018 & rated 88 points: This was ok, but not outstanding. It is full bodied with softened tannins, so more time isn't going to help much more. I don't expect to buy more Artemis any time soon. There are many better for the money. (1645 views)
Tasted by utsa26il on 7/26/2018 & rated 86 points: Not great, not bad. Good fruit, but structure was never really there or is starting to fall apart. Didn’t quite hit me as “flabby,” but it may get there soon. (1858 views)
Tasted by jroberts86 on 3/8/2018 & rated 90 points: The luster is fading. Still quite good. Fruit profile persists, but the presence is a bit lacking. Consume now (2349 views)
Tasted by JimWine32 on 1/21/2018: Ready to drink, maybe Kate (2104 views)
Tasted by Robij on 1/6/2018 & rated 95 points: Deep garnet color. Aroma of cassis, new leather and wood. Flavor is balanced between cassis syrup, black cherry skin, fresh leather, brown sugar and light oak. Finish is elegant and long. Forget what they say about a light year, I think too many people expect super fruit forward, over extracted wines. At 7 years old this is at its peak. Elegant and balanced. (2173 views)
Tasted by estiles on 12/24/2017 & rated 90 points: Leather, black current with medium body. Pleasing finish with a savory aftertaste. Would call it teriyaki beef jerky if forced to choose. Ready to drink now. (2236 views)
Tasted by magilla1780 on 11/9/2017: Very nice wine, but not worth the $. Not even close. (2519 views)
Tasted by jrundlet on 9/22/2017 & rated 91 points: Good but better for the money (2448 views)
Tasted by Brent25 on 8/12/2017 & rated 86 points: Dark cherry in colour; hot nose of cherry, wood, cassis compote and moist soil; palate weaker than nose with sour notes; slightly out of balance - more fruit needed to stand up to the acidity and alcohol; thin mouthfeel with short finish; not worth the price point (2708 views)
Tasted by jdjtk on 5/6/2017 & rated 89 points: The wine is violet colored and legs are slow. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It tastes like black currant (cassis), raspberry, vanilla, oak and chocolate. The body is medium/full. The wine has round texture, finishes long and has medium acidity. There is not much nose to this vintage, which was disappointing. However the nose is not consistent with its taste - quite odd. Bought at Costco for around $40+ tax. Would opt for a better vintage for that price point. (3469 views)
Tasted by bluengng on 3/5/2017 & rated 84 points: Drinks like a cheap mass made wine. Really truly a waste of money for 65 bucks. Sorry. (3954 views)
Tasted by Brent25 on 2/10/2017 & rated 88 points: Garnet with watery rim; cherry, strawberry, nutmeg, some heat, sweet chocolate and dry wood; palate follows nose with sour cherry; balanced with soft tannins; thinner mouthfeel than expected (3496 views)

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Producer website
NOTE: This is easily confused with Stags' Leap Winery, but Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is a different winery. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is considered one of Napa Valley's first-growths. "We were founded by Warren Winiarski and his family in 1970 and are best known for our estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons — CASK 23, S.L.V., and FAY. Over the years, our wines have become some of the most highly regarded and collected wines worldwide. They are fashioned to express classic elegance, structure, and ageability, and to reflect the place in which they are grown." Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was known only in the Napa Valley until the now-famous 1976 Paris Tasting, when Winiarski's 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon, the first wine produced at the new winery, bested four top-ranked Bordeaux entries, including first-growths Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion. The tasting landed Stag's Leap Wine Cellars squarely among the ranks of the world's most noteworthy Cabernet producers and placed Winiarski among the ranks of world's most respected winemakers. It also fundamentally transformed how Californian wines were viewed worldwide [StagsLeap See details here].

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
