Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 88.5 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 76 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by AllRed on 1/26/2019 & rated 92 points: 4th Saturday Group (M/M thelostverse): Double blind. Rich and viscous with orchard fruit aromas. Abundant fruit on the palate; long finish. Guessed roussanne. (1901 views)
Tasted by thelostverse on 1/26/2019 & rated 88 points: Warmup white prior to main tasting. This had some nice minerality and floral notes, but something on the palate I couldn't identify came across heavy handed and detracted a bit for me. (1505 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 12/12/2018 & rated 92 points: A huge nod to American Albarino (1503 views)
Tasted by Birorganic on 7/6/2018 & rated 90 points: Very refreshing on a hot day. Good acid backbone and fruit still there. Nice wine. (1828 views)
Tasted by mkmast on 7/2/2016 & rated 90 points: The always steady wine that is a great pairing with seafood. To see this is a must have in the cellar. (3003 views)
Tasted by RobbieC on 5/30/2016: Pop-n-pour. Smells like a Viognier. Tastes a bit like Viognier too but much more tart with a lemon-lime vibe and subtle mineral notes. Loads of acidity. A nice crisp Summer sipper. (2014 views)
Tasted by David_T on 4/18/2016: My last bottle and it hasn't changed since last summer. Identical notes. I tried this side by side with the '12 and that one seemed much fresher with stronger acidity & mineral notes. This is still tasty but I'd drink by the end of this summer. (2203 views)
Tasted by BigTex22 on 3/14/2016 & rated 89 points: Wife loves this wine. Similar note to 1.5 years ago - initially sweet, but with a dry finish. Pear, green apple, oily. 13% ABV. Good stuff. Drink now or hold for a few years. (2292 views)
Tasted by David_T on 9/29/2015 & rated 89 points: Interesting comparing this to my note from a year ago. The aromas and flavors match, both within this wine and with last year- tropical fruit and melon, now adding white flowers. The freshness is starting to fade slightly but that minerality I mentioned being absent a year ago is here now. Actually the finish is the best part of the wine as it's surprisingly long, keeps the fruit flavors and adds light-medium acidity and medium+ mineral notes. Nice structure and tasty, likely best now but should last through next summer. (2913 views)
Tasted by Sonoma-W on 9/11/2015 & rated 75 points: Too heavy and jammy (882 views)
Tasted by Tubulus on 9/11/2015 & rated 90 points: Enjoyed this more than I recall enjoying previous efforts. Lots of acidity but nice balance. (1791 views)
Tasted by schimmy23 on 5/26/2015 & rated 89 points: Great with food (caprese grilled cheese in this case). A little too tart without it. This is a great effort every year. (2278 views)
Tasted by jaumealaska on 4/13/2015 & rated 90 points: Bright stone fruits in the nose and body, very good acidity and lovely finish. One hesitates to give an outstanding to a unoaked "simple" wine, but this was truly expressive of the varietal and a pleasure to drink. Spring has arrived with this bottle in Alaska! (2283 views)
Tasted by Backdoctor on 3/2/2015 & rated 91 points: always a crowd pleaser. Easy to drink with some lemongrass tones. Have to buy it up next time. (2131 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 2/20/2015 & rated 89 points: Putting on weight, much more enjoyable. (1970 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 2/17/2015 & rated 89 points: Light yellow in color, with a slight green tint.
Apple, citrus, mineral, and a touch of spice. Crisp, with lively acidity.

An interesting change of pace wine for us, but I found this to have too much mineral and lacking structure. Probably what you'd expect for an albarino, but potato bacon chive soup just wasn't a great pairing.
Me - 88. Wife - 90. (1897 views)
Tasted by LaiJien on 1/24/2015 & rated 89 points: Pale gold. Nose of orange blossom, light minerals, lemon Starburst candy, and apricot. Smooth mouthfeel with flavors of minerals, lemon and light banana. Smoother than the 2013 Lolo Albariño that I had alongside. Both wines were too acidic for the crab and cheese soufflé with which I paired them.

Update: the wines went spectacularly with caesar salad and fish and chips. (1950 views)
Tasted by Whine-oh on 1/24/2015 & rated 89 points: Crisp, clean white. Good acidity while showing some citrus and stone fruit. Matched well with pre-dinner light apps. Perfect for what was expected, did not disappoint. Drink n enjoy now. (1620 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 12/23/2014 & rated 88 points: Serious grassy notes took over half-way through this bottle, good minerality, and the finish is more composed from last recollection. (1963 views)
Tasted by drdebs on 12/19/2014 & rated 88 points: Simple, very tasty white table wine. Nice balance between zesty citrus and a softer, medium- to full-bodied weight in the mouth. Good with seafood, Mexican food (1714 views)
Tasted by lolo66 on 12/7/2014 & rated 89 points: With a 2 hour decant this was a juicy vibrant by not overly complex delicious Wine that went exceptionally well with linguine and clam sauce. (1984 views)
Tasted by RobertB321 on 11/7/2014 & rated 89 points: Not too complex. A nice crisp wine that was fun to drink all by itself. Some citrus aromas and flavors. Nice finish. (1895 views)
Tasted by youngjc1 on 11/6/2014 & rated 91 points: This wine was a bit disjointed at first, but drinking great by the end of the night. Forgot to stop it up for the night, but to my great surprise it was drinking even better on day two. Makes me wonder if I've been doing things wrong by drinking these so early without giving them any air.

Nice acidity and minerality, with tastes of stone fruits (peach?), wet rocks along a fresh spring, lemon, and honey. As others have said, perhaps not the most complex wine. But it sure is enjoyable. (2304 views)
Tasted by Sauvyfan on 10/31/2014 & rated 91 points: fleshy. lots of tropical fruit in the mouth. clean nose with notes of lemongrass, white peach and honey. Quite a departure from traditional Spanish Albarino. Creamy finish. (1711 views)
Tasted by BigTex22 on 10/23/2014 & rated 88 points: Drank for birthday wine tasting with friends. Initially sweet, but then some tart apple and dry finish. It was good, not great. GOOD. (1802 views)

2013 Bedrock Wine Co. Albariño Abrente

From release newsletter:

2013 Abrente Albarino: The fifth iteration of this wine made by Michael Havens (the first person to make Albarino in the New World) and myself. The wine comes from two sites in the far southern part of Napa Valley. Unlike previous iterations our newer Watson Vineyard site, which is planted in limestone, makes up almost 60% of this wine, adding greater density and perfume. Done completely in stainless steel tank, with no malolactic this racy, bright wine is perfect for briney oysters, sushi, or pretty much any time the sun is shining. Easily my favorite version of this wine to date. 13.3%

Albariño

Varietal character (Appellation America)

Albariño (Galician pronunciation: [albaˈɾiːɲo]) or Alvarinho (Portuguese: [alvaˈɾiːɲo]) is a variety of white wine grape grown in Galicia (northwest Spain) and Monção (northwest Portugal), where it is used to make varietal white wines.

Albariño is actually the Galician name for the grape, with Albarín Blanco an occasional synonym. In Portugal it is known as Alvarinho, and sometimes as Cainho Branco. [1]

It was presumably brought to Iberia by Cluny monks in the twelfth century. Its name "Alba-Riño" means "the white from Rhine" and it has locally been thought to be a Riesling clone originating from the Alsace region of France, although earliest known records of Riesling as a grape variety date from the 15th, rather than the 12th, century. It is also theorized that the grape is a close relative of the French grape Petit Manseng. [2]

It should not be confused with the Alvarinho Liláz grape of Madeira.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Napa / Sonoma

SONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level.
The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.

Carneros

Straddles the southern ends of Napa & Sonoma Counties.
