Tasted by ppandian on 5/19/2024 & rated 91 points: Still fresh and bright out of the bottle. Decanted for about 3 hours. Fruit has come to the fore but the tannic structure still present. Nose of sandalwood with a hint of mushrooms along with undertones of iron..a metallic character. (18 views)
Tasted by wineloverla on 10/31/2021: this opened up great! (1317 views)
Tasted by msuwine on 8/31/2021 & rated 92 points: This elegant but straightforward Cabernet offers a somewhat muted version of Corison: yes, there is acidity, integrated tannin, floral aromas, and subtle fruit. Still, this wine seemed to limp out of the glass, with less layered flavors and less lift on the finish than I had hoped. I get the sense this peaked about five years ago, but it seems faded now.

Light red in color and medium in body (like a Pinot), the wine offers aromas of dried cherry, worn leather, and wet espresso. Flavors of sour cherry, rhubarb, and baked plum, with a pleasant and lingering finish. 13.8% alcohol. Followed over three hours, but it was better earlier.

To be clear, I often find Corison wines too tart and diffuse, but I bought this direct in order to see how it aged (the easy out for any wine discussion - give it time!). So, yeah, with time, what's the verdict? Still not my jam. I can hear the justifications - drank it too late / early, decanted it too much / not enough, didn't meditate / kayak before drinking - but let's just call a spade a spade. I deeply respect Cathy's story; I see why people like her wines; but they're not for me. (2633 views)
Tasted by Cbailey501 on 7/31/2021 & rated 91 points: A very pleasant wine showing what a well-produced Cabernet in Napa can mature to be. The nose was still full of fresh black fruits with all oak aromas having been fully integrated at this stage. Palate was still structured: nice acid, tannins were velvety and round, while the body was med+. Finish was med+ with black fruits dominating. What most impressed me was that the wine was not overtly fruit-forward, like many wines from Napa. I look forward to my other 2 bottles soon, although there is still a couple of years left in this wine. (1375 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 2/7/2021 & rated 92 points: Last bottle of this vintage, bought 10 years ago, in my cellar sionce. Last tasting was 2013...:) Looking for something nice for the Super Bowl, had with some casual fare. PnP

Medium ruby red, clear. Nose showing red and blue fruits, vanilla, mild oak. Palate of aged blackberry, plum, baking spice, faint saddle leather and mineral notes. Red berries/plum through the mid plate, aged but still bright. Tannins smoothed. Medium body and finish.

This was good right out of the bottle, started to fade (slightly) towards the end. Probably "peaked" a few years ago, but nicely aged in a very good spot right now. Would drink any remaining bottles in next few years (1649 views)
Tasted by Riesling_tba on 3/28/2020 & rated 94 points: Very nice Cabernet from one of my favorite wineries in Napa Valley. Uncorked an hour before drinking. Very nice over 1-2 hours in combination with great steak from the grill. Lively acidity and not super heavy. Elegant with a beautiful taste of red, dark berries in combination with soft tannins and a nice finish. Still good for a few more years. (1935 views)
Tasted by PolarBear22 on 6/18/2018 & rated 95 points: Stellar. Nice dark color to the edge. Still has very nice fruit with smooth tannins. Not all that much sediment coming out, though bottle was marked. We brought to a restaurant so only used a filter, no decanting. We had no issues with it fading, but probably gone about 90 minutes after we opened it. (2195 views)
Tasted by Tudz Drkl on 1/11/2018 & rated 93 points: Excellent. Fruit is fresh and splashed with mint, menthol and dusty notes. Great integration and structure. (2225 views)
Tasted by achasd on 1/2/2018 & rated 92 points: Classic aged cab from this iconic vineyard. Maybe slightly past it prime. Don't decant or open ahead of time - it was fading by the time we reached the end of the bottle. Drink soon. It wasn't getting better. (2231 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 11/20/2016 & rated 94 points: Napa Valley Master Class with Robert Parker; 11/10/2016-11/20/2016 (Napa Valley): Tasted at the winery. Served from Magnum via Coravin. Fragrant nose of dark fruit, blue fruit, touch of gingerbread, vanilla. Delecate palate, medium bodied. Good finish too. I slightly preferred the 2012 for its freshness. (4920 views)
Tasted by PolarBear22 on 4/12/2016 & rated 93 points: Not much for notes, as were entertaining. Still doing very well. Dark, great balance with smooth tannins. Paired with a grilled salmon, and went fantastic. (3071 views)
Tasted by Italiana on 2/18/2016: A library bottle from the winery. Sumptuous, soft, smooth. Perhaps in need of a touch more acidity? Elegance, not power. Very nice. (2371 views)
Tasted by Wicked Panda on 8/9/2015 & rated 92 points: A wonderful example of what an aged cab should be. (2937 views)
Tasted by plechazunga on 6/20/2015: Opened up quickly . Old world nose - faint tobacco and a bit dusty. On the palate creme de cassis, cherry liquor. Faint tannins. Light mouthfeel.

If you like fruit notes, drink up! But there's still plenty of acid for a longer haul. (3229 views)
Tasted by Tudz Drkl on 6/6/2015 & rated 93 points: Fantastic, balanced and integrated wine. Beautiful deep, clear ruby color. The nose was cedar, pine, leather and red fruit market. On the palate, the acidity and tannins provided a steady and pleasing structure that carried fresh fruit that was balanced perfectly with the savory flavors. (2067 views)
Tasted by Deputy on 3/13/2015 & rated 91 points: Very nice. Just at the start of the downhill slide but still drinking very nicely. (1923 views)
Tasted by emf on 2/21/2015: Hard to believe this wine was 15 years old. Lots of fruit initially, the wine was medium bodies with some tobacco and cedar. The finish was smooth, with fully integrated tannins. A very elegant wine! (1786 views)
Tasted by Wicked Panda on 11/23/2014 & rated 93 points: I rarely rate any wine this high. This was amazing. Soft fruit, tobacco and leather. A bit of cedar, a touch of the barrel showing. Very soft tannins, probably peaking. (1716 views)
Tasted by emf on 11/9/2014: aromas of dark fruit and garnet in color. Lots of dark cherry flavors with some oak and a silky mouth feel. A beautiful, elegant wine that at 14 years of age is great. (1654 views)
Tasted by NEwino on 8/14/2014 & rated 94 points: This was the best bottle of the 3 that I had. For a vintage that was known to be a bit softer this bottle had full flavors with very dark cherries and cigar flavors that were perfect together. Really enjoyed this bottle. Drink now (2389 views)
Tasted by cab chris on 8/10/2014 & rated 86 points: Opened this yesterday and as the evening wore on, what limited fruit that was initially present, began to fade after 3 hours. Yes the bouquet is appealing, and there is decent complexity with black pepper, cigar, and tart cherry, but the finish is drying and a touch mellow. (1991 views)
Tasted by aces219 on 8/5/2014: Tried at the winery from magnum today. It is definitely a lighter vintage...a little tart and a shorter finish than the other wines, but oh that bottle bouquet. (2078 views)
Tasted by jimyeni on 7/23/2014 & rated 95 points: So good. Supple tannins, great mid palate, fresh fruit and great balance. Drinking great right now (1782 views)
Tasted by jimyeni on 4/16/2014 & rated 93 points: Silky smooth, still has some fruit. Tannins are well integrated, I wouldn't wait much longer (2131 views)
Tasted by kurishin on 10/15/2013 & rated 92 points: Takes time to come out and play. Opened sour cherries and finished sweet cheeries/passion fruit. (2213 views)

(Corison Cabernet Sauvignon Kronos Vineyard) Soft and elegant, this Cabernet whispers its flavors of cedar, plum, coffee, and wintermint. There is power in the palate, however, leading to a lovely, long finish. Very enjoyable right now. Terroir: Kronos Vineyard

Corison

Producer website

Corison Winery is located just south of the town of St. Helena in the upper Napa Valley. They are on the west side of Highway 29, about a quarter mile north of Zinfandel Lane, at 987 St. Helena Highway, Saint Helena, CA 94574.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
