Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 20 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Jabulani on 1/27/2024 & rated 88 points: Lovely stuff, probably better a year or two ago, as age is starting to dull the fruit character which is necessary to balance the heavy oak imprint. Tasty and reliable, though, with citrus, orange leaf and plenty of vanilla, cream, pastry. The fruit is somewhat mulled by age, but still present. (136 views)
Tasted by Szwedaj on 9/2/2021 & rated 85 points: Almost would not consider this chardonnay, but is excellent in it's own right. Crisp, tart, not very sweet. (1032 views)
Tasted by Snäppekällan on 4/10/2021 & rated 90 points: Very pleasant! It stood up to hot smoked salmon. I will buy it again. (1219 views)
Tasted by vatausae on 6/27/2020 & rated 88 points: Simple, clean, and refreshing. Perfect summertime wine. (1779 views)
Tasted by JCGuthrie on 5/15/2020: Opened for a virtual tasting with Frog's Leap, which is a great program they're running in these COVID times, and a lot of fun. Out of 375.

I did not care for this at all, and wonder if perhaps it was flawed in some manner (premox?). I got uncooked dough and some apple on the palate, with a very unappealing aftertaste. Not rated. (1863 views)
Tasted by JakeNoir on 5/4/2020 & rated 93 points: Fantastic, non-oaky clean, bright, burst of true Chardonnay! (1853 views)
Tasted by tastark on 11/22/2019: So, the first two days this was open the wine came across very acidic and very rough around the edges. We were a little disappointed in truth. It was a little reduced, but not so much you would think the wine shut down. But, on the third day the wine transformed into something really nice, so clearly it needs a little more time in the bottle. When it finally opened up, it was reminiscent of 1er Cru Chablis. It definitely has a strong cut of acid and pretty interesting chalky notes - something you don't often see in Napa Chard. Oak is very light to non-existant. Malo appears to have been blocked. Would buy again based on day 3 experience. (1389 views)
Tasted by DanielJ on 7/11/2019 & rated 91 points: Tasty. Melon and pineapple with a touch of citrus. Good complexity (1420 views)
Tasted by rdricker on 4/3/2019 & rated 88 points: Nice clean taste. Not much depth, but nice with salmon (1063 views)

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
