Tasted by mark55 on 9/24/2023 & rated 89 points: Having a grilled Mediterranean dinner tonight, found this in the Mediteranian-Section of the cellar and gave it a go. Smooth and dry, On the powerful side not thinned by age. stewed plum, typical aged tempranillo taste profile. Good example of the type, Gave it an 89 in the best sense of an 89.
The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It tastes like plum. The body is full. The wine has angular texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. (239 views)
Tasted by rbfoote on 3/7/2021 & rated 90 points: A nice bottle. Deep red colour. Plum and blackberry flavours start, moving towards more leather and earth. Tannins are moderate and this could stay in the cellar another few years. (1542 views)
Tasted by guzmana on 12/12/2020 & rated 90 points: Muscular but smooth (1613 views)
Tasted by Bin707LoversDetroit on 11/12/2020 & rated 87 points: We've had much better Spanish, earthy, Tempranillo. It's got biting, grippy, distracting tannins. It's not becoming. In our cellar since May 2018. We had hoped for more, but 88.9, seems about right, a little high even. Underwhelming. Almost good. After 30 minutes open, the fruit began to show up, like West Chester mentioned. Tannins dissipated some. OK, this is good sign... Pour another and dig in... But... Still lacking... Had w a spicy veggie meatball w mushroom spaghetti dish. Wanted balance but the flavor is just acceptable, nothing more... 87/88 Pts. (1943 views)
Tasted by West Chester Wine on 8/19/2020 & rated 87 points: Very solid bottle of wine, especially for the cost. Smooth. Full flavored. Dry. Got better as it aired out - maybe open and let sit 30-45 minutes before drinking. (1856 views)
Tasted by West Chester Wine on 7/20/2020 & rated 84 points: Good solid bottle, especially for the price. Like if very much. Well balanced. Moderate dryness. (1647 views)
Tasted by OldHick95 on 7/1/2020 & rated 87 points: Black cherry dominates, along with cinnamon and baking spice. Finishes with raspberry jam and present, but not assertive, tannins. (778 views)
Tasted by theebigjuan on 1/15/2020 & rated 88 points: This particular bottle was purchased on clearance from a nursery, of all places, yet it did what I'd expect from earlier purchases. Rich dark berry and leather battle with vibrant acid and long lasting tannin. Can handle any meal you wish to throw at it, but great with a cigar too. (951 views)
Tasted by Livonietisr on 6/28/2019 & rated 91 points: Medium ruby red. Blackcurrants, licorice, tobacco. Integrated tanins, fresh acidity. Dense red with long finish. (1402 views)
Tasted by poste244 on 6/14/2019 & rated 89 points: Un gros rouge boisé et tannique encore bien jeune.
Tasted by Baron Slick on 5/25/2019 & rated 92 points: This is full of youthful exuberance. Deeply pitched notes of cassis, plums, and tobacco showed aromatic complexity. The palate was tightly wound and needed two hours to reveal densely-packed blackberry flavors that are lifted by tannic structure and an excellent cut. Outstanding and excellent value too.  Tasted by West Chester Wine on 1/1/2019 & rated 85 points: Good wine at great price. Let sit a little awhile before drinking, then enjoy. (1218 views)
Tasted by mtred on 6/14/2018 & rated 84 points: This wine has a nice deep purple color. Aroma is very subdued and taste characteristics are difficult for me to detect. Body is light to medium. Balance seems a little acidic which did not improve with an hour of time. It was best with food, such as meat, pasta, or cheese. (2623 views)
Tasted by CarlCP on 5/5/2018 & rated 88 points: Continues to be a good wine (2681 views)
Tasted by rahul_d_chatter@yahoo.com on 4/16/2018 & rated 88 points: Good QPR for a $10 bottle, but a little untamed at this point. Translucent look and medium garnet color. Burgundy color meniscus. Notes of berries, licorice, and tobacco. Medium bodied feel with a full bodied intensity. The intensity is fulled by 15% alcohol that may, at first, be too intense for the ladies. My wife complained of a headache. Unmistakable tannins that are well integrated, but may do better with a few more years in the bottle. Old world style. Medium finish that is surprisingly long at this price point. A good weekday or campfire wine when coupled with a steak. (2821 views)
Tasted by Paul from the Oblong Table on 3/9/2018 & rated 89 points: Very deep in color. Full of rich fruit that lingered on the back of the tongue.
Would buy more if available. (2862 views)

Tasted by Nati Winos on 2/11/2018 & rated 91 points: This wine is one of the best kept secrets. Lush, fruity, warm and delicious! The price and value cannot be beat. Stock up on this one. We do. (1314 views)
Tasted by Tomportwine on 2/1/2018 & rated 90 points: Robt Parker 92. $17 at grocery store. Deep garnet color, full flavored, nicely balanced wine. Plums, cherries, spice flavors with supple tannins and nice acidity make this a great value food wine. (1195 views)
Tasted by tabachus on 1/30/2018 & rated 89 points: Ruby red and aromatic. Wonderful nose with hints of earth and pepper. A little heat and a medium mouth feel. Notes of young tannins and blackberry. Very nicely done for this price! (1193 views)
Tasted by srh on 1/20/2018: Taste Wines from Spain (San Diego Wine Co.): N: RIPE berries/earth

P: LM body; NICE, almost swtish frt met by an almost swtish, very, VERY finely tannic pucker which pretty much resolves by the LONG, spicy, tangy/swt finish. DESERVES 6-9 mos, then drinking for 3 yrs more. My VG+; 92 pts WA, 90+ Tanzer, & 88 RJonWine. 15% ABV [This vendor's $12.99 is near the VERY top of a HUGE wine-searcher listing!] (1369 views)
Tasted by bwilson13 on 1/17/2018 & rated 90 points: Great value at $13 price point! (1173 views)

Tempranillo

Varietal character (Appellation America) | TAPAS: Tempranillo Advocates, Producers and Amigos Society

Tempranillo is the premium red wine grape variety from the Rioja and Ribera del Duero region in Spain. Tempranillo's aromas and flavors often combine elements of berryish fruit, herbaceousness, and an earthy-leathery minerality. Being low in acidity and sugar content, it is commonly blended with Carignan (Mazuela), Grenache (Garnacha), Graciano, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

WineAccess
The varietal is at its best in top Riojas, where oak aging is employed to generate increased complexity and harmony. From the best sites, these wines can be remarkably concentrated with great aging potential. New wines from this region are darker, and more robust, with more dynamic primary fruit flavors than traditionally styled examples. These wines seem to reflect the influence of Spain's other key region for Tempranillo, Ribera del Duero. Regardless of style, Riojas tend to be medium bodied wines, with more acid than tannins. These wines generally feature Tempranillo blended with Garancha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. For these wines, there are three quality levels, which will appear on the label. Everyday drinking wines fall under the category of "Crianza", "Reserva" denotes more complex and concentrated wines, and "Gran Reserva" refers to the most intense wines, made only in the best years.

The same labeling scheme applies to wines from Ribera del Duero, which, like Rioja, is dominated by Tempranillo and shares similar blending grapes. Again, Ribera del Duero wines are generally darker and more powerful than the most traditional Riojas. These wines also generally see less oak treatment than Riojas. From Rioja, we like wines from Allende, Marqués de Cáceres, Montecillo, and Cune. In Ribera del Duero, consider Dominio de Pingus, Emilio Moro, Convento San Francisco, and Pesquera.
Pair older-style Rioja with simple meats like chicken, leg of lamb, and pork loin. However, the newer style of Rioja and Ribera del Duero works especially well with bolder meat dishes or an aged Spanish cheese like Manchego or Idiazabal.

Single Vineyard

The wine takes its name from a single vineyard owned by the Scholz family, in the northern area of the Barossa Valley. This single vineyard Shiraz is a great example of vibrant Barossa fruit. Dense dark fruits and a hint of chocolate. An exercise in opulence.

Elegance and fineness wines, sourced from a single vineyard, planted to develop a specific variety.

The vineyard surrounding the 1905 built Ebenezer church in Barossa's north are defined by a distinct bright red clay soil. The Scholz vineyard has a remarkable lack of variation across this block. This area of the Barossa is renowned for its richly flavoured Shiraz with intense and luscious middle palate flavours. The wine from the Scholz Estate vineyard is an excellent example of this.

Spain

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
