Community Tasting Notes (average 88.9 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 84 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Oenecnist on 5/9/2022: Records not handy. Bought 6b for 10-12/b 10+ years ago, likely online; this is #4. Good cork. Decanted with normal sediment for its age. Dark purple; mature red fruit, some cherry; prominent cherry, turning a bit medicinal; good mouthfeel. Tasty, holding well for its age. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. Quality, age, price: Notable+. (225 views)
Tasted by mr21cbs on 8/21/2018 & rated 91 points: Still excellent showing. Deep, bald, excellent length. My last bottle. (910 views)
Tasted by JWG on 12/17/2016 & rated 91 points: The nose is dark with tobacco, smoke and eucalyptus. Chewy, meaty palate. (2060 views)
Tasted by JWG on 10/18/2015 & rated 91 points: Getting even a little better overall. The nose is dark with smoke and eucalyptus. Chewy, meaty palate with a nice hit of acidity, and moderate tannins at the end. (3458 views)
Tasted by JWG on 10/2/2014 & rated 90 points: This has developed nicely. Compared to the bottle we had 2+ years ago, this has matured into a deeper, richer drink. The nose is dark with earth, eucalyptus and smoke. Fairly chewy palate, yet lots of bright fruit, an element of meat, a good hit of acidity, and lively tannins at the end. A very good QPR.  Tasted by R&B Cellar on 10/26/2013 & rated 90 points: Great wine for the price - beautiful color - smooth - very enjoyable (5802 views)
Tasted by studleytrey on 10/25/2013 & rated 90 points: Pretty consistent with my last bottle over 2 years ago. Somewhere between ruby and garnet in color. Lovely nose of smoke, ash, soil, eucalyptus, and dark red fruits. Medium body and finish, fairly high acid, and flavors of black cherry, plum, red licorice, and earth, and a nice little mineral streak shows up around the midpalate and lingers through the finish. Fantastic little Italian food wine for $10-15, and it doesn't get much better for pizza/pasta night. If this shows up in a newer vintage around $10, it's an easy case buy for me. (5307 views)
Tasted by bechi on 9/19/2013 & rated 87 points: Bright magenta with a nose of red berries and cake. A bit tannic and lighter in body than expected, but quite decent for $10. (4235 views)
Tasted by BURGHen Boy on 7/27/2013 & rated 90 points: Dry, touch of wood up front. Soft, silky mouth feel. (38 views)
Tasted by YoRi on 1/29/2013 & rated 89 points: Très aromatique, fruité et floral, cuir mouillé
En bouche: continuité, gouleyant, "sappy" framboise bien mûre, une légère salinité. Longue persistance. (3533 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 12/21/2012 & rated 88 points: A nose of cherry and spice, dark amber in color. A medium bodied red blend, with plum, cherry, smoke and spice on finish, was thin in volume for me. (3071 views)
Tasted by Halfeel on 11/21/2012 & rated 91 points: Very nice Sicilian red blend. Would buy again. (2164 views)
Tasted by KSWinegeek on 10/28/2012 & rated 91 points: Strawberry, raspberry and cherry. Pinot-like in both nose and mouthfeel. Smooth, delicious and a great value. (2350 views)
Tasted by Pierre TIZZANI on 8/25/2012: Greg wine at gréât value.. Fruit rouge, tabac, café... Quelques heures pour qu'elle s'ouvre. (2594 views)
Tasted by merryberry on 7/18/2012 & rated 87 points: Rose tinted magenta. Strawberry, raspberry, spice and a touch of oak. Medium bodied, cranberries, tart cherries, dry tannins, good acid, tobacco, and a medium finish. Nice and a good value at the sale price. (2277 views)
Tasted by RussK on 7/15/2012 & rated 91 points: RussK, WSW crazy italian tasting . Better day 2. (1900 views)
Tasted by JWG on 4/26/2012 & rated 89 points: Had this on the road, so no detailed notes, but was rich and balanced and delicious. (2015 views)
Tasted by emf on 4/19/2012: This went well and was improved with food. Rustic with dark red fruit and a short finish. (2086 views)
Tasted by Edouard84 on 4/9/2012 & rated 90 points: Very fruity, like concentrated berry juice. Fine tannins and quite silky. Indeed not much personality but a very enjoyable food wine. Great QPR (2135 views)
Tasted by gatormatt on 3/6/2012: Holy moly was this made in a modern fashion. While it was a quality juicy and well balanced wine with obvious but enjoyable wood, it could have been from anywhere. If you're looking for an enjoyable bottle to have with dinner and not thing about, go for it. However, if you're looking for Etna volcano terrior, move on. I enjoyed it, but can not feel a little dead inside that another international style made with a potentially interesting grape found its way to the marketplace. (2604 views)
Tasted by bg3034 on 3/4/2012: PnP through Nuance Wine Finer. Cherries and strawberries on the nose, with a little candy. On the palate, tart cherries, decent acidity. The tartness seems a bit more prevalent than last time. I'd have scored this bottle 87 or less. Aloha! (2262 views)
Tasted by Johnny C NYC on 2/29/2012 & rated 90 points: Like a caramel apple; big rich red fruit that packs a punch. Modest but lingering finish. Great on the price point. 50/5/12/16/7 (2217 views)
Tasted by kcsteve on 1/21/2012 & rated 89 points: Decanted for 1 hour. Served with Chicken Parmesan Pizzsa. Great match as this old world Pinot like wine did not overpower the fare. Ruby in color; medium-bodied. Notes of smoke, earth, ash and reserved red fruit on the nose. Nice tart cherry and cranberry notes as consumed. Nice acidity and mild tannin. First Etna wine....liked the winemakers effort. (2638 views)
Tasted by KyleMittskus on 1/10/2012 & rated 86 points: My notes were almost identical to Trey's. Light-med body. Excellent food wine. Pretty clearly an Etna wine. Red fruits, ash, earth, old world-styled. Good QPR. (2693 views)
Tasted by Rhenry on 12/28/2011: Firm tannins, should have waited longer before openning. (2811 views)
