Tasted by grossie on 4/4/2024 & rated 93 points: Big brunello. Fine tannins, lots of body, long finish. Overall wonderful wine. (149 views)
Tasted by wabi47 on 3/20/2024 & rated 91 points: big and still a bit firm; plenty of dark fruit and the structure to match (218 views)
Tasted by repoper on 2/18/2024 & rated 89 points: Slow oxed for 6-7 hours. No decant, right into my glass. extremely dense but a pretty nose of cherry cola syrup, pine nuts maybe figs?. Still a bit tight and acidic which initially hid the fruits. They emerge slowly to revael dark red fruits, tar, menthol and barnyard. Lisini is one of my favorites and I have many vintages sitting in my cellar, but not the '06 anata, which I bought at auction last years ago. Overall this was a bit disappointing for me as it never showed the profile that I'm so use to with their wines. Served with prime rib and lyonnaise potatoes. Should have been a lay up but just wasn't. I still have 1/2 case of the riserva that I've never touched and after this experience, I think I'll hold a few more years. (287 views)
Tasted by RussellMcM on 10/20/2023: Excellent bottle, still lots of tannins! (479 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 12/30/2022: Eastman.
~2 hour decant.
Drinking really well. (828 views)
Tasted by ChristP on 12/18/2021 & rated 95 points: The 2006 Lisini Brunello di Montalcino has only got better and better over the last year or two. It now needs almost no breathing time. It's a dark red with a mix of red and dark fruits on the palate, medium acidity and still quite firm tannins. Although ready to drink on first pulling the cork, it did evolve nicely over the next hour, becoming smooth and velvety. Two days later it was utterly glorious, Lisini Brunello di Montalcino at its best. Top class maker in a golden vintage. No hurry to drink up. (1340 views)
Tasted by Nerdy Earth Boy on 5/4/2021 & rated 92 points: Lisini is my very first Brunello Love Story and this bottle was no exception. It always gets better with time and this vintage will not be an exception. Truly delightful in every way. (1812 views)
Tasted by wabi47 on 12/29/2020 & rated 92 points: deep purple fruit with full mid palate; full mid palate with the structure to match; tastes as if a little cabernet was added; the 2006 vintage has been more structure than pleasure to me, but this is really nice. (1911 views)
Tasted by ChristP on 12/22/2020 & rated 94 points: The 2006 is a real beauty, and it's ready to go. It's a very dark red in the glass, and after 30-45 minutes you get aromas of roses mingled with bramble, a touch of spice and a hint of oak. There is medium-high acidity that melds with dark fruits, bitter cherry and lingering dark chocolate in the middle. Tannins are smooth but, with a swirl around the mouth, they come to the fore and then contrive to give a bitter tinge at the end. Finish is long. This 2006 Lisini BdM seems to be in its prime and has the bones to last. This is the first bottle out of a 6-pack. No need to rush to drink up, but certainly no need to wait. Will likely reach its 20th birthday in style. Lisini makes incredible ageworthy wines. (1846 views)
Tasted by Umay Ceviker on 10/18/2020 & rated 90 points: Garnet in colour with a pale garnet rim. Nicely evolved showing autumn leaves, rust and iodine. Structure and textured on the palate with dried fruit flavours showing a vivid, energetic mix. (1880 views)
Tasted by moods on 6/20/2020 & rated 91 points: Drinking very well right now. Beautiful! (1703 views)
Tasted by up4wine on 1/26/2020 & rated 94 points: Very slow to open up, but once it got going it was spectacular. We decanted for 1 hour and then had to give it another hour before it decided to wake up. For this wine patience is definitely a virtue that will be rewarded. (1672 views)
Tasted by moods on 12/13/2019 & rated 91 points: Looks much older than it tastes. Big and bold with chunky tannins. Has plenty of ripe fruit and a nice acidic lift. Decanting recommended. (1493 views)
Tasted by redders on 9/7/2019 & rated 91 points: Some maturity in colour. Lovely Sangiovese baked fruit smoky fruit, quite cool. Elegant long and dry finish. Needs food. Lovely (1640 views)
Tasted by Jochems on 5/5/2019: So here we are again. By sheer coincidence a ‘pick a random bottle and create a meal that matches’ resulted in opening this bottle. Only 3 weeks after the previous one. And this is the last one left in the cellar. Now here is only a Ugolaia ‘06 left. Again: this is some great Brunello totally in line with the previous note.

When I come to think about it, Lisini definitely has found its way up again after the somewhat lesser wines produced in the vintages after ‘99. The ‘01 and ‘04 where not very impressive while the vintages as such where great. This ‘06 has some of the freshness of fruit, that I like so much about this vintage, combined with the black fruit, smoothness and density that Lisini usually delivers.

I’m now extremely curious how the Ugolaia is doing!

When it comes to pairing: the rather ridiculous ‘let’s make a Wagyu burger and top it with some truffle cheese to make the ultimate cheeseburger’ turned out to be a brilliant stroke of luck!
Although I’m still embarrassed that we even gave it a try.... (1719 views)
Tasted by Jochems on 4/20/2019 & rated 93 points: We popped and poured this bottle. It was quite expressive from the start. This bottle didn’t get enough time to evolve, it was such a great wine and it was gone before we realised it!

The color still shows vivid light ruby with some amber at the rim. Expressive aromas of blackcurrant, leather and some hints of berries and licorice. Medium-full bodied with chewy-smooth tannins, sweet fruit and nicely balanced acidity. The finish is very long and remains fresh throughout.

This wine will last for at least another 10 years but I don’t think it will improve a lot. (1610 views)
Tasted by Jeffyboy on 1/25/2019 & rated 91 points: Lisini Brunello vertical tasting (Winicjatywa): very dark, slightly brownish colour. nose: quite light, flowery; some, distant sweet cherries; generally tart and bit "green". taste: balsamic, seroius; ripe tannins - large and lively; medium (+) acid; mineral. (1632 views)
Tasted by acyso on 4/18/2018 & rated 93 points: The Rotating Dinners, II.4: 2006 Brunello (Chicago, IL): This was my favourite wine this evening. It had generous fruit on the nose and palate, but it was counterbalanced with a little bit of brine as well. The palate is simply gorgeous, with a fruit density that is bolstered by a clean earthiness. Powerful, elegant, and complex, this is something I ought to put in my own cellar. (3123 views)
Tasted by redders on 4/7/2018 & rated 90 points: Surprisingly young. Decanted an hour but at first alcohol very evident on nose. Toned down after time and brunello character started to show through and wine came into balance. Very good but needs time (2065 views)
Tasted by isbjoern on 9/23/2017 & rated 91 points: Second Brunello of the evening. This is less gamey than La Poderina 2004, it has some very ripe and sweet cherry and wild strawberry fruit, the high alcohol makes this quite full-bodied, but it also has enough balancing acidity, some earthy notes too; round and supple on the palate with soft tannins and a long finish. As usual, a perfectly elegant Brunello by Lisini. Some found it had less character than the wines before. I guess tthat is a question of preferred style. I liked this a lot. Good now, but no signs of age. - 91 points (2489 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 9/16/2017 & rated 92 points: Opened and decanted. Incredible nose of fruit and earth. (2396 views)
Tasted by up4wine on 4/9/2017 & rated 94 points: Very bright fruit that was bold, almost sweet, and even from front to back. Nice long finish. Really outstanding. In a great place and time. (2746 views)
Tasted by Gian on 1/21/2017 & rated 88 points: Not improved from my last bottle, not complex , anyway clearly Tuscany and Sangiovese but anyway not emotional. Just a correct Brunello but I was expecting more from the 2006 vintage (2386 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 12/8/2016: Blir ikke helt kompis med denne.
Rustikk, lite frisk frukt og toner av aceoton.
Harde tanniner i finish.
Mistenker litt varmeskade her. (2499 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
