Tasted by canan on 5/4/2023 & rated 93 points: Absolutely stunning. Fresh dark cherry fruit and a lovely refreshing acidity. The tannins are fine and polished and it is in a great drinking window right now! Great wine! (265 views)
(503 views)
Tasted by Jochems on 7/23/2021 & rated 95 points: I was surprised to see that I haven’t published any notes on this over the past years. This is my second to last bottle. And I’m very happy to see that this wine has probably arrived ‘a point’ by now!

Medium-light ruby/red color with remarkable little signs of aeging yet. Enticing aroma’s with cherry, blackcurrant and leather at the core with some basalmic notes, hay, wet earth, red licorice, laurel and cedar evolving with every swirl. A silky smooth mouthfeel with balanced acidity and some sweet fruit. The finish is very long and echoes the initial aromas.

The bottle was only open for one hour when I wrote down this note. It didn’t lose any of its facinating complexity over the 4 hours we consumed the bottle.

It is nice to see some of the ‘04 and ‘06 Brunello from my own cellar arrive at that ultimate balance of vibrance and smoothness with an enticing complexity. Just like I first came to know Brunello in the late nineties by drinking some ‘85. It’s been a fascinating journey ever since. And this Querce Bettina a memorable testimony of it. (1177 views)
Tasted by canan on 5/24/2021 & rated 92 points: Stunning performance. Lush and fresh cherry fruit with a solid acidity and harsh tannins. There is a good deal of intensity and depth. Has evolved into a very classic-style Brunello and it is in a great place right now and the drinking-window has certainly opened. The tannins could need more time to soften a bit but overall, it is a pleasure to drink right now. It does show some mature notes also but the fruit is still fresh and young. 92-93p (1266 views)
Tasted by Tige on 2/8/2020 & rated 90 points: Meilleure que la dernière il y a 3 ans.
Bcp de cerises fraîches en bouche, acidité moy+, tanins peu présents.
Texture soyeuse, tout est bien fondue, ça se boit tout seul! Rien de trop complexe par contre.
Carafe pas nécessaire. (1353 views)
Tasted by DK Amateur on 8/18/2017: Sweet fruit and very accessible and harmonious. Will probably become ethereal with furter ageing but tastes wonderful now. Better than the 2007, I think. (2250 views)
Tasted by Tige on 8/5/2017 & rated 89 points: Bon sangiovese, surtout au nez. En bouche c'est bon mais il manque de structure, de bois. Pas certain que ça deviendra beaucoup meilleur. À ne pas carafer pour les prochaines bouteilles... (1939 views)
Tasted by DK Amateur on 5/13/2017: This was very good rather than great, an open and harmonious Brunello with a strong initial sweetness that became more balanced by acidity and tannin after some air. Very easy to drink. (2127 views)
Tasted by benzon1960 on 12/6/2016 & rated 90 points: From a magnum. Still appear a little subdued. However, plenty of air unlock its potential and I firmly believe this is a beauty that may well excel 10y+ from now. (2138 views)
Tasted by benzon1960 on 12/6/2016 & rated 90 points: From a magnum. Still appear a little subdued. However, plenty of air unlock its potential and I firmly believe this is a sleeping beauty that may well excel 10y+ from now. (2409 views)
Tasted by Vertigo on 5/22/2016 & rated 88 points: Accessible wine good to drink now but lacking some complexity and it appears to be from a hotter vintage than it actually is due to its (dried) fruit profile. (1838 views)
Tasted by JohanPe on 3/5/2016 & rated 83 points: Pnp. Mature cherries, dark raspberries, herbs, gravel road, some oak and vanilla notes. Mature acidity on the palate, dark chocolate together with the same notes as the nose. Had the first glass at 13-14 degrees. When I come back to the decanter after 2 hours the wine has completely given up, tired cocked fruit, much more oak and the alcohol comes through big time on the palate. I would go as far as calling it undrinkable. Past 3 experiances with this wine has been gradually disappointing, my advice is to finish your remaining bottles if you have any, or at least check in on them and judge for yourself. Fairly young winery so maybe not to surprising...Grading this because of the consistensy of the last bottles. (1996 views)
Tasted by Vertigo on 4/20/2015 & rated 91 points: Surprisingly dark. A very opulent wine. Sweet dark fruit and smooth tannins. Very round and pleasant. Good to drink now with some years left. I very much enjoyed the wine but I was missing some character. (2276 views)
Tasted by JohanPe on 11/22/2014 & rated 91 points: Beautiful dark cherries and dark chocolate, in the background creamy vanilla from the oak, nothing disturbing though. Develops constantly during the evening, becomes less sweet and more powerful, and much better. Some early maturity on the nose with coffee beans, soggy leather and damp undergrowth. On the palate the dark cherries run the show together with great acidity and fine silky tannins. The last glass, on day 2, is clearly the best which hints of a long life ahead. Not sure I'll wait that long though, really like it as it is right now. (2384 views)
Tasted by JohanPe on 1/4/2014 & rated 90 points: The very richest and darkest cherries you can think of, crushed. Plums, chocolate and some vanilla. Also an earthy feeling together with a subtle note of oak. Really good. The tannins are soft and very well integrated, makes me wonder if this really needs more time in the cellar? Perfect balance and pretty much reached it´s potential imo. As been said the complexity is not that high, straight forward Sangiovese-cherries. 90-91. (3085 views)
Tasted by Ultimatewinekick_Andreas on 6/26/2013 & rated 91 points: Nose: Tobacco, gunpowder, depth, dark berries, a touch of sweetness,
Taste: Very good balance with acidity and tannins. Good structure. Again dark berries and deapth. A touch of oak.
Finish: Quite long and fruity finish.
Summary: A nice brunello, nothing wrong but nothing really special. The terroir does not come through. (3215 views)
Tasted by madflyfisher on 1/29/2013: Part of a mini Brunello tasting. Scored. Came out as the winner in my view. Very enticing nose of early maturing Sangiovese. Classic Brunello nose. On the palate an absolutely beautiful balance between ripe fruit, tannins and acidity. Drinkability score is through the roof! Delicate and a pleasure. The complexity is not high though, which is the only drawback in my book. Does not need much longer in the cellar. Accompanied a Bistecca alla Fiorentina nicely. (3231 views)
Tasted by JohanPe on 12/15/2012 & rated 91 points: Lots and lots of sour cherries, sweet plane tannins, very interesting. After two hours more fruit with a touch of perfume. Not quite the monster I expected but very promising. Won´t come back for at least another two years or so. (3019 views)
Tasted by eSchrag on 9/19/2012 & rated 92 points: Beautiful Brunello that is just beginning to flower. Decanted for a few hours, but still very tight. Wonderful bright cherry fruit on top of a tannic and earthy backbone. Finish medium in length with a hint of dustiness. This wine should be fantastic in another 3-5 years. Enjoy!!! (3640 views)
Tasted by DK Amateur on 1/20/2012: Tasted over two days, decanted one hour each day, drunk out of Riedel vinum bordeaux glasses. When drunk with dinner the initial extraordinarily attractive nose of sweet licorice and ripe cherries with a touch of strawberry seemed to have evaporated and be replaced by a more dusty and spicy nose. Medium-bodied elegant taste with attractive sweetness and a very food friendly amount of acidity and tannin. In short, appeared very nice and harmonious but not giving quite what it seemed to have in it. Perhaps the decanting was too short (or, who knows, too long?)? Maybe the glasses wrong? (The Riedel vinum sangiovese/riesling glass was less good.) Sometimes wine tasting is a rather difficult affair. (3014 views)
Tasted by vinaigre on 11/19/2011 & rated 95 points: Nice deep ruby red, beautiful nose of cherrys, strawberries and wet cement. Nice pallet of fruits, just so juicy. Nice balance now, with firm tannins and crisp acidity. Med plus finish. Just great. (3472 views)
Tasted by futronic on 11/12/2011 & rated 95 points: Wow, just wow. The ruby-coloured wine exudes class and elegant from start to finish. Pretty nose with dark cherries, blackcurrant, sliced black plums, and almost a touch of strawberry to go with a bit of sottobosco. Medium-full bodied with replays from nose. Excellent balance of acidity and fine tannins through to a very long finish, ~45-50s. The biggest compliment I can give to a wine is that I want to drink more of it. This hit that benchmark. The wine is very young, and I can only imagine how fantastic it will be with some cellaring. 95-96 points. Drink 2018-2025+. (3363 views)
Tasted by canan on 11/11/2011 & rated 95 points: Brunello 2006 Horisontal Tasting: Sweet but fresh cherries on the nose with some sewer and meat/leather also.
Impressively fresh cherries on the palate but also a little bit special. It does seem a little watery on the mid-palate but has a long floral and herb filled aftertaste.
Overall a little bit strange but very edgy and something that would be funny to try again. (3593 views)
Tasted by Jochems on 5/26/2011 & rated 95 points: Montalcino visit Spring 2011; 5/25/2011-5/28/2011 (Montalcino): This is as impressive as my first encounter with this producer (the '04 vintage), but in a slightly different way.

Ruby/red color. Full aromas of cherry, blackcurrant and some berries with hints of leather and meat evolving in the glass. Following trough full bodied with lots of fresh fruit, smooth and dusty tannins and lots of fresh acidity. The finish is very long and remains fresh. This wine is still very young, but very attractive. It has lots of potential to develop for a long time to come. drink 2016 - 2030.

Compared to the '04 this vintage has more depth and some darker/brooding tones, the '04 is more refined and delicate. I think both are great Brunelli! (3812 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
