| Community Tasting Notes (average 89.9 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 24 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Erick Wand on 7/4/2018 & rated 88 points: Decanted for over an hour. Still drinking well. Glad to share with 4th of July guests. No complaint, no outstanding comments. (1101 views) | | Tasted by SeattlePaul on 4/15/2018: Not a good example. (1089 views) | | Tasted by Evets1 on 9/8/2017 & rated 94 points: Peaking now - great tannins, perfect balance. Decanted 45 min. (1233 views) | | Tasted by Primordialsoup on 6/11/2013 & rated 91 points: Classic Justin offering. Solid new world, fruit-forward, dark jam smear with smooth menthol and dusting tannins. A bit of heat on the nose that continues onto the palate and finish. Probably could do with more than an hour decant. Chewy finish concludes an overall good mouth-feel. I thought the ten-year mark would be sufficient- probably right, but would like sip again in another three to five. May always have a soft spot for this producer, will miss this one, it is the last. (2130 views) | | Tasted by random on 9/1/2011 & rated 88 points: Still hanging in there nice. Black fruit, a bit of brick color on the edge. Solid body, tannins have smoothed out. Good cab. (2549 views) | | Tasted by Dr_Bob on 5/3/2010: alot of fruit remaining; tight and tannic out of the bottle; will report later.... (1794 views) | | Tasted by Mike Stoneking on 10/4/2009: These Reserve Cabs are my favorite bottling from Justin and this did not disappoint. This bottle still had the big black fruit on the nose and palate. The tannins were silky smooth and the wine was drinking great from start to finish. Sadly, my last bottle of this vintage. (2351 views) | | Tasted by CADomer on 10/2/2008 & rated 92 points: Rich and deep flavors of black fruits and licorice on the palate. The nose was a little muted but the mouth was beautiful and lush. (1958 views) | | Tasted by charliesea on 1/5/2008 & rated 89 points: THe wine retains its zing and acidity, but is sadly past its prime. The Justin web site lists a short drinking window for this wine, and tasting reveals the reason. The Cabernet taste profile is missing. The wonderful flavors that made the wine a good purchase have diminished; the floral aspects are gone. (1403 views) | | Tasted by yovinny on 9/22/2007 & rated 87 points: Hiiigggghhhh alcohol. Very Tannic. Good fruit. Disjointed overall. (1585 views) | | Tasted by stbasil on 8/24/2007 & rated 91 points: Not decanted. Drinking really well right now. Tight upon opening but really opened up after about a 1/2 hour. Nice rich Cabernet flavors and aromas. There was a good amount of sediment in the bottle at the end. Probably will hold up nicely for another few years. (1645 views) | | Tasted by yovinny on 4/29/2007 & rated 88 points: Young wine, very tannic so fruit is hidden. Will approach again in two years. Should cellar for many years. (1730 views) | | Tasted by cmr on 3/24/2007 & rated 89 points: After an hour decant started to come together. Very good balance and structure with the normal Cab fruit. (1648 views) | | Tasted by gildedwon on 2/17/2006 & rated 90 points: I just love this wine. Pricey and I'm certain that experts will tell me that there are better wines for the money. Couldn't help myself, I find Justin wines just yummy. (1947 views) |
| Justin Vineyards & Winery Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonReserve The Wine News | Wine Country This Week | Wine Lover's PageUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
