Tasted by shellylowen on 7/2/2020 & rated 92 points: Gnarly tannins and lots of dark fruit. Long finish. Magnum. (569 views)
Tasted by ctjared on 4/27/2019: meh (740 views)
Tasted by ctjared on 10/14/2018: might be on its last legs - too much boysenberry (893 views)
Tasted by shellylowen on 8/5/2017 & rated 91 points: Meaty (1253 views)
Tasted by MichielV on 11/2/2015 & rated 90 points: With Olly and Albert. We had this after two pinots. Game 5 worldseries, mets/kc.dryerthen i remembered but good structure and good fruit. Really should taste this as a verticalwith soem dinner. This will live a bit longer (1825 views)
Tasted by SupaTy on 12/21/2014 & rated 93 points: Northern rhone style. Tar. Leather. Dark fruit. Simply delicious. (1996 views)
Tasted by hankrophelia on 3/10/2014 & rated 92 points: Deep, thick purple, with a clear rim showing little sign of age. Nose is intense, with black cherry, blueberry, blackberry, mint, pipe tobacco, and hints of game and spice. Subtle but complex integration of the aromas. Full bodied on the palate. Acid is med +, tannins are a little weak perhaps for this big of a wine. Black cherry, mocha and spice on the finish, which is long. Over delivers for the price. (2483 views)
Tasted by ctjared on 1/24/2014: very good the second day (2244 views)
Tasted by pmk on 6/13/2013 & rated 89 points: this wine needs time to come together. I opened it and poured and it was all over the place, with bright fruit, uneven finish and a sharp close, so I corked it without gas and came back to it two or three days later - and what a difference. Round fruit forward and soft tannins, no real backbone or spices. But a nice drink that can't compare with the best of the Santa Barbara syrahs (eg Tensley) but enjoyable. Recommend cellaring for a year ot two more. (2488 views)
Tasted by wadcorp on 2/17/2013 & rated 88 points: Full-out syrah. Mountains of black fruits: blackberry, black currant, black cherry, and other bramble fruits, as well as a dose of chocolate. Good bit of spice. Medium tannins. Almost syrupy-mouthfeel. Their motto must be "go big or go home". (2353 views)
Tasted by ListenToMeWine on 12/8/2012 & rated 91 points: A big wine, but well balanced and tasty. Brooding dark fruit. (2129 views)
Tasted by STM82 on 12/7/2012 & rated 91 points: Very full bodied, vuluptuous syrah. Wonderful notes of blackberry and raspberry jam, some bright red fruit, and on the back end plenty of quality oak. Some green peppercorns and underbrush kept things interesting on the finish. I liked this more than I had anticipated. (1741 views)
Tasted by ctjared on 10/9/2012: Consistent with previous note (1935 views)
Tasted by ctjared on 7/1/2012: This is my kind of juice! Reminds me of the fight. Dark fruit, big mouth feel, spicy. Looking forward to seeing this get better. (1816 views)
Tasted by Redguy on 6/19/2012 & rated 89 points: Decanted 45 mins then drank with a beef kebab dinner over the next hour. Prototypical syrah. Black fruited with smokey tar, a brambly componet, and welcome spice on the med length finish. Large framed Full body with fine dusty tannins, med richness, surprisingly good acidity, and nice consistency across the palate. No real flaws but this did come across as lacking some complexity and a bit monolithic... though certainly forgivable at the price. A fine example of syrah and an excellent value. 88-89 (1790 views)
Tasted by Ltomanek on 12/20/2011 & rated 92 points: It placed well in our Syrah tasting (third out of eight). I like it for its peppery taste and spice. After decanting and some more time to breathe in the bottle it showed aromas of berry and redcurrant. But what I really liked was the slight truffle, which was not over the top. Of several of the Syrah's we tasted its truffle taste was sophisticated and simply impeccable. Great deal for the price. (2022 views)
Tasted by Kurt and Ruthann on 12/14/2011 & rated 89 points: Nice wine. (1879 views)
Tasted by michal on 8/7/2011: Drink up! Very fruit forward. Nice, smoky, fatty nose. Not much by the way of tannins. Cant imagine this is a wine for the long haul. Much more pleasurable in this primary, young stage. (2108 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
