Community Tasting Notes (average 88.1 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 91 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by tolginator on 12/21/2018: Tannins show nicely, well -balanced. Some fruitiness, most of the sugar is gone but just the right amount is still there. For me, at least, it is the right time to open the bottle. (1883 views)
Tasted by Erikkellison on 2/21/2016 flawed bottle: Too old. Interestingly jammy but too flawed to consume at this point. Bummer. (3765 views)
Tasted by fja@reagan.com on 10/11/2015 flawed bottle: Bad (3958 views)
Tasted by euroking999 on 6/24/2015 flawed bottle: Two of three bottles had turned and were undrinkable. One was on its last legs. Some residual fruit flavors but difficult to identify. (4152 views)
Tasted by FransS on 12/15/2013 & rated 86 points: Not lively enough to convince me, still a nice wine. (5728 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 9/22/2012 & rated 86 points: This one is loosing its stuffing. Drinkable but not the wine it was several years ago. (6472 views)
Tasted by yeastbeast on 12/17/2011 & rated 84 points: Vertical tasting along with '04 and '06. Decanted all three bottles simultaneously, tasted at various times thereafter.

10 minutes: Mellow earthy nose. Modest blackberry fruit. Brambly and spicy, slightly bitter.
2 hours: Well balanced, by consensus the best of the three at the Danish Christmas party, but not exceptional. Drinking well now and should hold a few more years. (5336 views)
Tasted by Jax on 10/1/2011 & rated 84 points: past its prime. ok fruit (5182 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 7/3/2011 & rated 83 points: Ripe dark fruits, bit etoh; flabby at first, some structured tannins, good fruit. Decent, ready to drink. 83 (5270 views)
Tasted by Rojo on 5/11/2011 & rated 92 points: Well integrated now. Soft tannins, acidity is there mixed with black fruits and mocha. Nice finish. (4054 views)

Tasted by 10izguy on 6/21/2010: Drank immediately after a very forgettable bottle of California Cab, this seemed great by comparison. Drinking very well right now. (4112 views)
Tasted by borderlinewine on 8/15/2009: Oh Oh - I rated the 2006 as excellent - this is the bottle I intended to rate. OK, they're both good wines, but this vintage was fantastic (wish I had more...). Let's see.. where did that 2004 bottle go...? (5406 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 6/23/2009 & rated 89 points: Solid bottle. (5191 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 6/20/2009: similar notes as last bottles (5343 views)

This is a well aged cabernet from California with a earthy nose and dark thick body. The taste is a tart rich fruit with cherry, black fruit, and leather. The finish is a strong tannin but long lasting and will continue to improve with age. 91, hold for a few more. (4482 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 3/4/2009 & rated 86 points: Big dissapointment after last bottle which was delicious. (5396 views)
Tasted by Anders C J on 2/7/2009 & rated 89 points: Great Carb, with elegant nose and palate as well. Smoothe string of cassis and leather - elegant start and finish. Great value for money (5577 views)
Tasted by now_in_mi on 12/7/2008 & rated 87 points: Thought it was a very good solid Cab, presented it along with a '05 Ferrari-Carano, most folks liked the Beringer better, in all regards except nose. (5554 views)
Tasted by neighborbill on 11/10/2008 & rated 82 points: See tasting note of ikkaariainen (5583 views)
Tasted by ikkaariainen on 11/10/2008 & rated 82 points: I will unfortunately have to differ from the vast majority of the people down below writing tasting notes on this wine. Enjoyed with good friend neighborbill and his spouse Debbie earlier tonight following the remnants of just an absolutely outstanding '06 T-Vine grenache (see previously written tasting note). I agree with neighborbill's assessment that this wine rated about an 82. Somewhat muted, almost flat and unimpressive nose without any remarkable off tones but just not very impressive, fruity more then floral with tones of red cherry and plum. Smooth but with a short aftertaste and overall structure and mouth feel flat, uninspiring and uniimpressive. Primary flavors did consist of some typical Napa valley cab cassis building on the aftertaste following good aeration in glass with initial flavors of black fruit, plum, tar and cedar. Hard to recommend this wine based on this bottle. (5711 views)
Tasted by Philly-O on 10/26/2008 & rated 86 points: The reality has hit. Thought this might get layered if it sat for a year or two. Was short, pasty, devoid of character vs last year. Shouldn't have been suprised. Quite the rookie mistake to even consider cellaring. (5795 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 10/15/2008 & rated 92 points: This wine is coming out of a dumb phase for me. Loved it on release but the last two bottles I had in 10/07 and 2/08 weer ok but nothing special and not up to expectation and prior experience with this wine. This bottle is back in stride.. Color is a beautiful cab purple. Aromas of dark fruit and spice; a little leather. On the palate full balanced flavors with delicious cherry, smoke, dark fruit and spice. Very nice bottle for the tariff and happy to have a bunch more to enjoy in the coming years. I actually have to upgrade this a bit after about a half hour in the glass. Proof positive that you can drink well for less than $25 per bottle. (5741 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 8/24/2008: From memory: Fruity, medium bodied, mellowed tannins, enjoyable. (5634 views)
Tasted by Foster on 7/31/2008: Very solid cab for the price. (5742 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
