Tasted by Mneumeier on 9/24/2023 & rated 92 points: Great. (790 views)
Tasted by tcarter on 2/22/2023 & rated 93 points: Seemed slightly oxidized at first PnP. Threw into a decanter and that basically blew off and balanced out nicely as it opened up over the next hour or so. (1264 views)
Tasted by gbejjani on 10/22/2022 & rated 93 points: A terrific wine. In a great window now and will remain for years. Fascinating finish, very attractive semi-tartness oh so reminiscent of Bordeaux.. All class, knows where it's going and takes you there. A Bordeaux like only Napa can make.

Tasted by llindahl on 5/21/2022 & rated 95 points: Gorgeous wine, well balanced and smooth as silk. It still has some fruit left while the tannins are super polished and acidity is well balanced.
It’s like a mature good Bordeaux with a little more fruit present. It drinks very well and will probably last for a good 5 more years. But why wait? (1583 views)
Tasted by Mneumeier on 10/23/2021 & rated 92 points: Drank great. Ready to go PnP. (2041 views)
Tasted by NY Wino on 9/6/2021 & rated 93 points: Dark ruby/purple color, big nose of dark fruit and flowers, the wine is still pretty massive with ripe fruit, smooth tannins and a long delicious finish. Great wine that is drinking at peak right now, but likely another 5-6 years before it even starts to fade. (1677 views)
Tasted by EEK on 12/25/2020 & rated 98 points: Exceptional, mature, well rounded, subtle hints of blackberries, leather, sublime (2019 views)
Tasted by starkravingmad on 11/26/2020 & rated 95 points: Shared with some Norbertine priests over Thanksgiving dinner. Decanted for 8+ hours.
Remarkably good - full bodied, fruit filled, smooth. One described tastes of poppies.
Not showing signs of its 17 years. Probably good for anther five+ years. (1876 views)
Tasted by Rick Gomez on 8/20/2020 & rated 93 points: Decanted for two hours. The wine opened up tight, but evolved very nicely. On pouring it has this distinct garnet color that shows it graceful age. The nose is very floral and enticing. Medium bodied structure and the tannins faded nicely to create a velvety feeling on the tongue. I tasted dried fruits, and vanilla, with hints of tobacco. It gets better with every taste and every pour. Lovely bottle. (1976 views)
Tasted by WizardNeedsFood on 5/30/2020 & rated 94 points: Still going. Needs a good two hour decant but still solid. As expected, flavor profile is very dark red fruit. TN from RickyT12 below is spot on. Drink with food as the acidity is still very much there. (1780 views)
Tasted by sababa1022 on 3/20/2020 & rated 94 points: In a great place right now. A little on the jammy side of fruit but absolutely delicious with a leg of lamb as we shelter in place. (1974 views)
Tasted by OG-Wino on 1/26/2020 & rated 92 points: Beginning to fade, but still very much present (vs. the 2000 opened at the same time which was dull and lifeless). Fruit present with a muddled mix of red and black berry. A nice floral/rose nose and great mouthfeel. (1658 views)
Tasted by RickyT12 on 10/26/2019 & rated 94 points: Decanted 1 hr
Really nice stuff. Very similar to other PMS. I would say it is peaking from the many bottles I have drank of this before. It has the iodine or sea salt nose, blood flavor without acid. Strawberry skin, floral, hints of rose, medium plus weight, a bit of heat, acid medium. Lots of flower feel. The iodine is so unique to the PMs. (1881 views)
Tasted by bobvictor on 7/27/2019 & rated 94 points: Plenty of life left! (1708 views)
Tasted by MichielV on 3/1/2019 & rated 92 points: In London with Charles, sunday lunch. Very good bold but balanced wine. Great dark color, super nose and great fruit on palate. Long finish. I’d say this will live a solid 10+ more years. Very good! (1866 views)
Tasted by sdsull on 2/28/2019 & rated 96 points: In a perfect place...... balanced, sensual and needed very little time to open. Everyone around the table enjoyed this wine. (1764 views)
Tasted by Kjyoung80 on 1/8/2019 & rated 76 points: Past it’s prime. (1718 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 8/13/2018 & rated 93 points: Decanted and served. Full on the palate but a lot of heat. I'm not sure where this is going from here but this was my last bottle. Enjoyable but either in transition or on the downslide. (2134 views)
Tasted by floridawinedrkr on 4/12/2018: I pulled a small amount out with the coravin. Big and hot! Did I mention it was hot! Raisins on the nose and flavor profile. If you told me this was 20% alcohol I would believe you. This comes out and punches you right in the face. This seems like it would need all day to breath and settle down. (2350 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 1/30/2018 & rated 94 points: Popped and poured. Youthful, high toned, and silky with soft delicious fruit. Very enjoyable. (2290 views)
Tasted by tcosgriff on 12/23/2017 & rated 88 points: Purple color with a tinge of brown in the rim. Bouquet and flavor of bell pepper and cassis in almost equal proportion. Tannins soft. Flavor rather muted, not making for much depth or nuance and a rather feeble finish. Not the equal of the previous bottle. Opened after the 2,000 Calon Segur proved so disappointing. So two disappointments. Probably over the hill. Drunk on the eve of Christmas eve, if I can extend the holiday a bit, with a lovey pork loin with roasted sweet potatoes and Brussel sprouts, and a very tasty cheese and bacon soup. (2340 views)
Tasted by tcosgriff on 11/22/2017 & rated 95 points: Purple color with a bouquet of cassis and eucalyptus, joined by tobacco after airing a bit longer. Similar flavor with the addition of some chocolate. Wonderful intensity, nuance, and depth with a very long finish. The only negative feature was a bit of harshness as the tobacco notes came to the fore, but still a remarkable wine. Drunk on the eve of Thanksgiving at Café Lynn with filet mignon topped with a lovely peppercorn sauce. (2233 views)
Tasted by burgundylover on 10/22/2017: Brought to Bonilla's (2109 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 10/9/2017 flawed bottle: Not sure what was wrong with this one but it never opened up over three days and had some harshness on the palate. Cooked? Same batch as my other bottles that were great. (1983 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 8/6/2017 & rated 95 points: So much concentration for an aged valley wine from Sonoma. It's always a pleasure to drink these. (2290 views)

Peter Michael

Producer website

The Peter Michael Winery is the California outpost of British-born Sir Peter Michael who has shown a Midas touch for selecting brilliant winemakers, including Helen Turley, Mark Aubert, Luc Morlet and more recently Luc’s brother, Nicolas. The consistency of these offerings from the cool climate hillside vineyards in Knight’s Valley and the Sonoma Coast has been respected and cherished by each of these winemakers... All things considered, Peter Michael is one of the reference point wineries in California.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
