Tasted by azwino on 2/12/2022: Excellent mature cabernet. (457 views)
Tasted by azwino on 5/28/2020: Great aroma and flavor. Decanted for about 1 hour, which was likely more than needed. Drink at cellar temp, gets muted as it warmed up. (1179 views)
Tasted by azwino on 11/30/2019: Delicious! Aromas of dark fruit, with leather and earth on the palate. Long finish, well integrated. (1227 views)
Tasted by rockymountaindad on 9/27/2019: With friends (1296 views)
Tasted by EEK on 12/24/2018 & rated 91 points: Nice tannins, well rounded, balanced (1460 views)
Tasted by JKelly05 on 10/22/2016: Dark ruby from core to edge. No signs of age.
Lifted. Room filling bouquet of dark fruits, hard candy, baking spices, black pepper, cigar box.
Mouth coating plush silky mouthfeel, yet not overly weighty on the mid palate. This is beautiful. Powerful yet restrained and elegant. Classic napa in style yet big mountain fruit. No signs of the big alcohol. Everything is just perfectly integrated and balanced. Long finish.
Drank over several hours, tired out over time. Good amount of sediment.
Dark berries, vanilla, black currants, blackberries, earthy undertones, some sweetness. Just a beautiful wine. (3049 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 3/25/2016: Red fruited nose with a touch of heat. Very even palate without much weight or richness. Definitely in a classic style. There's not much in the way of density or depth left here and very little tannin. Mostly fruit flavored though there was some cigar ash, charcoal type notes on the finish with air. A solid classic Cali Cab but one that should be drank sooner than later. Not the best vintage for this producer but the type of wine you just can't find much of from Napa these days. (3169 views)
Tasted by pauljenson on 9/20/2015 & rated 88 points: Definitely on its last leg. Drink soon or forever hold your peace! (3390 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 1/23/2015 & rated 90 points: Deep dark red center, red rim with signs of age.
Sweet, creamy, brambles, black currants, black cherry jam, light stalkiness, touch of cola.
Smooth, rich but restrained, blackberries and red currants, dust, pyrazine, long herby curranty finish.
Drinking very well now, excellent mountain cab. (3548 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 11/22/2014 & rated 91 points: Deep dark center, red rim with surprisingly little signs of age.
Sweet cassis, a little toasty, dried plums, a bright cherry note.
Smooth and complex, blackberries and blackcurrant, some plums, good tannin and acidity, mouth coating rich fruit, some blood and iron, vinous, a little green, dried undergrowth, long taut finish.
Great Forman cab. Mixture of new and old world. Drinking well now, but has the legs for a few more years. (3477 views)
Tasted by pepmi on 2/28/2014 & rated 90 points: The last of three bottles bought at the winery a few years back. Forman is a California cult wine without the cult prices. This bottle was classic. Deep dark cherry bouquet. Round and supple. A hint of flat cola on the finish. Could drink well another 3-5 years. (2739 views)
Tasted by astrauss on 3/25/2013 & rated 87 points: Dark raspberry red color. Initially on the nose bing cherry and saddle leather. Over time darker fruits emerge. The wine has good acidity and structure to go along with blackberries and dark cherries on the palate. Finish is smooth with a tart ending. (3162 views)
Tasted by mxpbuy on 11/23/2011 & rated 88 points: Sampled 11/22/11. Beautiful overripe black cherry notes appear up front but are largely swallowed up by weeds at mid palate. And by the finish the wine continues its downward trend toward some astringent notes. Definitely not a great year for Forman Cab. (3884 views)
Tasted by drrobvino on 6/24/2011 & rated 92 points: - Garnet color with slow forming legs and aromas of black currant, chocolate, black pepper and vanilla. It's balanced and has flavours of cherry, chocolate and black currant with a medium/full body. Satin-Like texture with a long finish - Beautiful ruby color with only slight fading at edge. Bouquet is full of gorgeous dark fruit like plums and black currant, with notes of chocolate and spice/black pepper. The mouthfeel is a medium to full bodied wine with sweet, dark cassis fruit, a slight hotness, and a finish that lasts 30+ seconds. The tannins are pleasantly "dusty" and the finish is overall soft and lush. A gorgeous effort that should go 3-4 more years. I love Forman! (3844 views)
Tasted by JCDR on 4/17/2011 & rated 90 points: fantastic as usual... (3827 views)
Tasted by bwillia on 3/5/2011 & rated 89 points: A very jammy, oakey vintage for Forman but still this is probably one of the best 03 Cali Cab's I've had. These guys do a nice job. (3411 views)
Tasted by mxpbuy on 1/22/2011 & rated 90 points: Sampled 1/21/11. A tough year for Napa, but Ric managed to salvage a pretty good wine from it. Bought at the winery on a random visit with Ric. The wine's color is a nice rich old mine garnet. The wine has nice vanilla notes mixed in with blackberries, black currant and some leather and tobacco. Nothing green like so many '03s, but there were a few astringent notes and the tannins still have a little chunkiness to them. Not sure if this wine will improve much if at all, but it will certainly hold for another 4+ years, so I'll wait on my others. (2914 views)
Tasted by gesusser on 10/14/2010 & rated 92 points: DRINK UP; (3009 views)
Tasted by gesusser on 2/13/2010 & rated 94 points: OMG; wow!!!!! decanted 2 hours b4 going to dinner @ seasons 52 @ boca; the bouquet filled the area around the table so much that our server was taken in by the same; the nose was almost hedonistic; great backbone to this well rounded & elegant cabernet; wine is now probably its peak; drink up; delicious w/grilled venison chop (3419 views)
Tasted by Double D on 12/23/2009 & rated 92 points: More medium bodied than the 97 or 2001 but well made, nicely balanced. Served with grilled filet and shrimp. (3437 views)
Tasted by MWes on 12/24/2008 & rated 91 points: Outstanding bottle of wine. Decanted for 2 hours prior to serving. No formal notes, but definitely has lots of time left, went great with beef and has a definite dusty quality to it. I won't open my other bottle for a couple more years. (3866 views)
Tasted by amleblan on 2/27/2008 & rated 93 points: Outstanding wine, although probably still on the early side. Opened and let breath for 1 hour, decanting would have been a good option as well. Big, bold wine, not minerally. Complex fruit. (4704 views)
Tasted by jivey on 11/30/2007 & rated 94 points: Yum! This is one of the 03 Napa vintages that is an exception, nose of smoky black fruits, cedar and a touch of black licorice. The wine opened up beautifully in the decanter and had a very long clean complex finish with a touch of spice. (4493 views)
Tasted by drmarc61 on 11/22/2007 & rated 92 points: This wine will evolve wonderfully over time. It took three hours of decanting before the wine began to open-up. Wonderful dark fruits with leather and tobacco. Lingering palate that teased the tongue with silky tannins. (4655 views)
Tasted by GolferChris on 11/17/2006 & rated 93 points: Boulder Ridge CC Member Tasting Event (Boulder Ridge CC, NW Suburbs, Chicago): Elegantly styled cab. Aromas/flavors of plum, black cherry, currant, blackberry and violet. Soft, silky tannins that provide a sweet, lingering finish. Drinking great now but should develop even more complexity with a couple more years of age. TOP 5 WOTN. (6974 views)

Forman

Producer website

Robert Parker: "Ric Forman is arguably Napa Valley’s first superstar winemaker. Although sometimes overlooked today, there is little question Forman has had a profound influence on a number of younger winemakers who still speak of him with great reverence. In 2012 Forman celebrated his 46th harvest. Today, Forman counts on the assistance of his son Toby, in running this small, family-owned jewel of an estate. As for the wines, they are superb, but, best of all, remain realistically priced for the consumer who wants to drink top-flight Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon without having to take out a second mortgage. Forman’s Cabernet is one of the classic masterpieces of Napa Valley, even if recent vintages come across as a bit riper than the norm. Still, it is impossible to go wrong with any of these wines."

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
