Tasted by Dulcie and Aylwin on 1/22/2024: The second bottle went the way of the first: a fine accompaniment to late lunch/high tea. It's more than just an enjoyable sparkler, and for the money deserves to be a constant presence in the fridge. (238 views)
Tasted by Dulcie and Aylwin on 12/6/2023: Recently sampled at a tasting that led to acquiring a couple of bottles. With more time to sample it shows even better: a great value for a crisp, off-dry sparkler with some classic riesling notes. (271 views)
Tasted by Dulcie and Aylwin on 11/30/2023: Beginning of round #3 at Waterford sparkling session: pale green-yellow; slightly off-dry, clean, moderate acid. Bought a couple on the strength of this based on price. (238 views)
Tasted by autumn_child on 7/2/2022 & rated 85 points: Lemon and overripe pear. Cloying and unexpected sweetness. (866 views)
Tasted by JNebs on 1/15/2022 & rated 88 points: Sec. Indistinct white fruits with balanced acidity and hint of lime pith. (1139 views)
Tasted by kostaslonis on 10/21/2020 & rated 87 points: Random wines tried before service (Oinoscent): Tasted at Oinoscent before service.
The wine shows light intensity, pear, green apple and lemon in both nose and palate, RS, light body, easy drinking, short finish (1982 views)
Tasted by OldHick95 on 7/15/2019 & rated 86 points: Red apple and honey. Light effervescence. Lacked a bit in acidity. (2226 views)
Tasted by ziavino on 11/22/2018 & rated 87 points: Simple and fun. Sweet apple and pear flavors, with just enough acid to keep it from being cloying. (2595 views)
Tasted by zhearr on 5/21/2018 & rated 87 points: not really going for sophistication but off-dry and cheerful. Nondescript nose but palate is flavorful, floral and fruity. Almost a little reminiscent of Moscato d'Asti. (2518 views)
Tasted by RieslingFanatic on 5/1/2018: Decent enough sparkling wine. Plenty of lime and green apples, some creamy lees notes and a good bead. Serve it blind and tell someone it’s an entry level Champers! (2523 views)
Tasted by Joe Kane on 4/17/2018: tank method, light, neutral, delicate, slightly offdry. Easy drinking. (1957 views)
Tasted by Colpete on 3/17/2018 & rated 80 points: Had with a spicy Indian grilled chicken dish. Not Pol Roger but great with spicy food. Not bad for six bucks. (1618 views)
Tasted by Muledog71 on 5/29/2017 & rated 90 points: Very surprised by the quality of this bottle, very dry style. Clean fruit, Apple and stone fruit, no yeasty notes. Medium weight it's a crisp finish. Great value bubbles! (2225 views)
Tasted by F_&_M on 5/9/2017 & rated 89 points: Very nice. Brut level of RS. Enjoyable. (1930 views)
Tasted by Jzizzle on 4/8/2017 & rated 87 points: Perfectly pleasant sparkler, but unremarkable. Has some lemony and broader fruit notes. I could have used a bit more acid and a bit less sweetness. Does not include all the loveliness I'd expect from a still riesling. (1906 views)
Tasted by andreawine on 12/23/2016 & rated 87 points: Peachy honeysuckle and yellow apple notes with a lovely integration of carbonation. Like me and juicy. (2067 views)
Tasted by iByron on 12/25/2015 & rated 89 points: Pale gold. Thick white mousse and fine persistent bubbles. Lightly honeyed quince on the nose and palate. Bright acidity balances the hint of sweetness. Finish is surprisingly dark and ashen. Pork tenderloin? Yes! (2885 views)
Tasted by chcook on 8/2/2015: PNP. This one was heavy on So2. Decent flavor after that blew off but less fizz. this would really benefit from decanting but that would defeat the purpose of a sparkler I think. Will keep looking (2809 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 5/9/2015: Our last bottle of this. It continues to be an easy drinking, good afternoon, not overly alcoholic, almost always enjoyed wine. The bubbles were fading a bit and after a bit of time in the glass it was more of a flat Riesling. Lightly sweet. Not too complex. Very refreshing. (3134 views)
 Tasted by Merky_Waters on 3/14/2015 & rated 87 points: 87-88

exactly what i wanted in an affordable sparkling riesling.

Off dry, medium body. lime, peach, pineapple, and lychee. clean mineral notes and high acidity keep it refreshing, but not so much bready and yeasty as more traditional methods.

bubbles cut the sweetness with a whiff of petrol balancing the fruit.

fun fruity bubbly with a touch of sweetness and big tropical palate. perfect for the hot weather or sushi. (3198 views)
Tasted by Motz on 2/7/2015 & rated 86 points: Straightforward, off-dry, refreshing. Very good acid, pleasant floral, slate, steel, and terroir elements. Enjoyable. 86-87. (3508 views)
Tasted by rexmerlot on 10/19/2014 & rated 89 points: Had with Sunday brunch. This wine never disappoints. (2932 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 9/6/2014: We continue to enjoy this wine. Nothing overly complex or intense here, but great wine for $13 - easy to enjoy on a hot summer day as yesterday was. Just a touch sweet without being overpowering. (2683 views)
Tasted by AWBryce on 9/1/2014 & rated 86 points: simple and airy. was quite refreshing on a hot summer night. (2517 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 7/19/2014: Continues to be a great, easy drinking summer wine. Always popular with the broader crowd. (2507 views)

Deutscher Riesling Sekt
(German sparkling Riesling)

Sparkling wine has a long, rich tradition in Germany, where it has been called “Sekt” since the late 1800s. Germans are the biggest consumers of sparkling wine in the world, and most of the Sekt they produce is sold at home. But it’s such delightful stuff, we thought it was time for American wine drinkers to discover real German Sekt.

Dr. L Sparkling Riesling is 100% pure Riesling — the crisp, fruity grape that has made German wine famous for centuries. It is made using the Charmat method, where the second fermentation is done in a pressurized tank to keep the bubbles in the wine. This method produces bright, clean sparkling wines in a more affordable way, which makes it possible to offer this charming bubbler at a very nice everyday price.

As is usual with Riesling — especially from a cool climate like Germany’s — a juicy touch of sweetness was left in the wine to balance the naturally brisk acidity. What you end up with is a refreshing, fruit-driven sparkler that’s a pleasure to drink any time. It’s a great choice for summer parties on the lawn, a Wednesday evening at home, or any time you need a little sparkle in your life.

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
