Tasted by Coachron13 on 3/10/2015 & rated 85 points: So, so boring. Flat, muted nose and taste. Tried decanting for several hours in hopes of finding something there, but nope. It's not bad, just not at all interesting. (3562 views)
Tasted by THF49 on 12/11/2014 & rated 91 points: a great Merlot but needs decanting/breathing for a few hours; perfect now but might age nicely for a few more years (3745 views)
Tasted by RandomCoil on 12/9/2014 & rated 88 points: No reason to hold onto this. Drink 'em if you got 'em. (3637 views)
Tasted by rsweiss on 6/5/2014 & rated 92 points: Absolutely everything I look for in a Napa Merlot. Bought a few bottles to try in 2016, and again in 2018. (4229 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 6/5/2014: Society of Wine Educators Mini Conference, Singapore (Holiday Inn): 97% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Long legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of ripe dark cherries, blackberries, plums, mint, and spice. Developing.
On the palate, medium+ acidity, high alcohol, smooth soft medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavor intensity, with flavours of ripe dark cherries, blackberries, plums, mint, and spice.
Good quality. Drinking well now, will continue to improve with further ageing, maybe in another 3-4 years. (5030 views)
Tasted by dozman on 5/23/2014 & rated 92 points: this is a fine Napa Merlot. smooth, full bodied but complex, it is ready to drink with or without food. the one bad reviewer must have had a corked bottle because this wine is easy to drink and a pleasure. (1328 views)
Tasted by Jeffrey Scott on 4/9/2014 & rated 92 points: Bought a few of the last cases from Silverado. Should have bought a few more! (1143 views)
Tasted by mattward on 4/8/2014 & rated 62 points: One of the worst wines I've ever tasted. yuck (1043 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 8/11/2013 & rated 90 points: 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Luscious fruit on nose and palate, firm tannic structure, good acidity and balance. Pretty long and persistent. Should improve, from 2016? Excellent. (1118 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
