Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.1 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 98 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Rani on 2/18/2024 & rated 88 points: Drank next to the 2000 Trevallon, much more austere and lacking fruit. On the nose it’s dusty with a hint of red plums, a touch too alcoholic. Ok but not great. (467 views)
Tasted by Joshvoulters on 1/12/2024 & rated 93 points: BYO at Ariana II (Ariana II, Kilburn): I think we caught this at a super stage in its development: a nice cool balance overall with a certain richness to the ripe red fruit, roast herbs and forest floor, grilled meat. A bit of everything going on. Satisfyingly dry and gastronomic on the palate, balanced with saturated dark fruit and grippy clay tannins still going strong. A great match for food. (727 views)
Tasted by The Guzz on 10/29/2023 & rated 94 points: In a great spot. Showing initially stronger cab influence, the longer this stayed open the more balanced it became. Decant definitely recommended, this smoothed out showing great expression for the age and a velvet mouthfeel that went on and on. (784 views)
Tasted by scamhi on 10/29/2023: Pure enjoyment, drinking great (721 views)
Tasted by Caruso on 12/10/2022 & rated 95 points: Garnet and broad bricky rim. From the start it shows a high to medium intens nose and palate with olives, cedar, licorice, herbs, truffles, red fruit most akin to cherries or cherry brandy. It is light on its feet and not as concentrated as the grape varieties might suggest. This is, as trevallon alwyas is, one more for those looking for elegance than for power. Still with considerable tannin levels. Besides the colour it seems young and in a cool cellar it will hold through for some years and maybe a decade. -2025+ 5/13/18/9 (1526 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 12/3/2021 & rated 91 points: Medlar lunch (Medlar, London): This is a nicely characterful and slightly feral bottle of the 01. Takes some time to get going and I think with hindsight this should have been decanted earlier. Quite measured on the palate, dense and harmonious with the black olive and glycerin character of seven or eight years ago having faded and integrated nicely. Lots of wine here, but really needs a few more years. **** (2424 views)
Tasted by jhbehrens on 5/15/2021 & rated 92 points: Guarrique! Still fruity. Wonderful wine that is at its prime drinking window. (2362 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 12/20/2020 & rated 93 points: Quite rustic upon opening. After an hour this blows off and it finds its balance.
Wonderful. (2608 views)

(3025 views)
Tasted by JHSP on 8/25/2020 & rated 92 points: Bit close to start, superb nose of herbs - brilliant wine - but still youngish - very lengthy finish (2164 views)
Tasted by jhbehrens on 2/28/2020 & rated 91 points: This wine seems closed - unexpected at this age and much more so than bottles I have had in the past few years from a different source. Even an hour in a decanter didnt make it open up. I'm at a loss. Still a pleasure to drink but will wait a few years before I open up my last two bottles. (1944 views)
Tasted by MLR on 2/4/2020 & rated 90 points: A bit dusty on the nose and bricky in the glass. Some nice cherries in the mouth and a bit dusty too. The tannins are fully absorbed. Last bottle for me. (1778 views)
Tasted by bigop on 11/11/2018 & rated 92 points: Lovely garnet colour, showing some age on the rim.
Med to Med+ alcohol, acidity and body. Tannins are perfectly ripe and integrated. Velvet texture on palate. Tertiary aromas are plentiful but yet there is some fruit left in this. Very good really. (2618 views)
Tasted by Dave64 on 10/15/2018 & rated 93 points: Medicinal (iodine) notes on opening - I drunk a Chateau Beychevelle with similar qualities.
Opened up to cherries then dark fruit - ripe blackcurrants.
Well integrated oak & nice length.
Enjoyed this one! (2251 views)
Tasted by Sijan on 4/1/2018: Sadly, this was corked. Visited this estate on our honeymoon. Ah well. (3089 views)
Tasted by kevin h on 1/28/2018 & rated 94 points: Fantastic smoky blackcurrant nose. Deep, cassis flavour, still youthful and furry with tannin or this would be right up there with the very best. Hint of Herb de Provence which marks it out otherwise could be mistaken for a quality Bordeaux, Montrose comes to mind. A great way to christen my newly acquired Simon Gate Orrefors decanter from 1917. Wine and glassware both magnificent. (2909 views)
Tasted by Rani on 12/30/2017 & rated 91 points: Juicy, candied cherries on the nose, with herbs de Provence. Very bright acidity, tight tannic structure and reticent fruit at first. With 30 minutes of air softened considerably and quite delicious. Only in the beginning of its drinking window. (2926 views)
Tasted by d'Artagnan on 3/4/2017 & rated 89 points: 145$ au restaurant l'Auréole, Las Vegas.

89 (+) pts (3488 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 10/27/2016 & rated 93 points: Steak wines @ Lurra (Lurra, London): A little volatile lift on the nose initially. Starting to get towards the classic Trev profile but still moderately firm. All here but could do with a few more years. ***(*) (4196 views)
Tasted by dalondra on 4/17/2016 & rated 94 points: Soft tannins ,fruity, peppery, long. Mature with still years to go (4076 views)
Tasted by dalondra on 12/27/2015 & rated 93 points: Mature with the fruit really emerging after 1hr in the decanter. Still many more years ahead of it. (4319 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 9/7/2015 & rated 93 points: A private dinner (Restaurant Rijsel, Amsterdam, NL): The spitting image of a fine claret from a ripe vintage, mature and rich, spices and fleshy fruit, red meat, cedar, seamless and harmonious, fresh and elegant, medium weight, supply and juicy, firm but ripe tannins, excellent length. Stylish and refined, now - 2020. Wonderful stuff. (5210 views)
Tasted by AndrewSGHall on 3/28/2015: Huge nose with almost reductive elements and funk. Dark color. Followed on the palate with funky worn leather notes and perfume fats, almost ambergris. Even with time still maintains feral edge and dark qualities. Really good. (4542 views)
Tasted by Rani on 10/28/2014 & rated 93 points: The nose on this wine is unbelievable. Rich concoction of rhubarb compote and dark cherries, with chocolate shavings. On the palate it is cool and reserved, with great acidity and some serious, persistent tannins. Very good now and has a few years ahead. (4952 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 7/17/2014 & rated 93 points: Dark and dense. Very thick in the glass. Dark fruit and black olive nose. Very smooth and rich and full on huge attack. Plenty of glycerin. Full bodied, tannins starting to soften and balanced by good acidity and fruit. Smooth. Certainly approachable with a decant, but needs time to develop some complexity and secondary nuance. Very good. ***(*) (4939 views)

Domaine de Trévallon

Producer Website
Up until 1993 the Trevallon Rouge was Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, Les Baux. However, starting in 1994 this was 'declassified' when the AOC Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence was revised (in 1993) and the maximum amount of Cabernet Sauvignon was reduced to a measly 20% (it was to be complemented with Grenache). Eloï Dürrbach did not want to give in and decided to market his wines under the Vin de Pays des Bouches-du-Rhône.
