Tasted by The Drunken Cyclist on 12/25/2023 flawed bottle: Retail $100(?). Heavy Bottle (900g; 1lb 16.7oz). I was a bit trepidatious opening this bottle as it has been a while. Well, despite the nearly two inch cork (for which I am sure Luc paid a pretty penny), the wine was corked. I wrote to the winery to let them know, not expecting anything in return at all, but I thought they would like to have the feedback. In return? I've heard nothing now two weeks out. Oh well. Another $100 down the drain. Literally.

Tasted by Quiet Lion on 7/16/2022 & rated 92 points: Beautifully aged, full-bodied Chardonnay with toast and apricot marmalade on the palate. (708 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 1/30/2022 & rated 91 points: Dark gold, caramel, nutty, some reduction, figs, clearly showing age but wearing it well, some coconut, lots of (integrated) oak on this, some nutty notes, aged tropical notes; oily, rich, with slight bitter high alc. finish. Blind at the Dirty Dozen CA Chards Grand Harbor Seafood. (797 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 1/10/2022 & rated 93 points: Pop and pour at cellar temperature. Simply delicious aged Chardonnay with creamy palate, vanilla, apple, apricot, good acid. We guzzled it quickly. (901 views)
Tasted by Gschnackel on 1/1/2021 & rated 97 points: Amazing color and aromatics. Fresh pears, melons and honey. Perfect timing to consume if you like aged Chardonnay. (886 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 11/22/2020 & rated 91 points: Rich, oily, a little reduction going on, decent, but didn't get much farther than that. I didn't mind it but placed 9th by the group. Blind Dirty Dozen at Capital Seafood BH (924 views)
Tasted by DugyDog on 8/14/2020: Absolutely delicious. I love the creaminess and salinity of the wine. (696 views)
Tasted by RonniePiemonte on 4/27/2019 & rated 96 points: Reminiscent of a 1978 Corton Charlemagne we had at Bec Fin 30 years ago. At once new world and traditional old world with the yeasts, salinity and oak caressing the fruit. Layers of flavors unfolding thru to a long acidic rich finish. Satin. Dinner at home; seared Cape May scallops over forbidden rice and turmeric roasted tomatoes. Bravo. (908 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 3/25/2019 & rated 90 points: I like this bottle a little bit less than the last. Very toasty aromas and flavors on the palate as the evidence of new oak is more pronounced here than on other Morlet chards. There is no doubt a lot of stuffing and concentrated fruit in this wine and it is holding up well age wise but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I should because it felt kind of monolithic. (893 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 3/19/2019 & rated 92 points: This is in great shape with a color of light to medium golden color. Great nose of flower, peach and touch of honey. The palate is fairly full bodied with fleshy flavors of peach, apple, and toast in a very delicious chardonnay with a nice finish. The only issue with this is it lack a bit of focus and detail maybe because the new oak is a bit prominent. (769 views)
Tasted by cweiner on 7/8/2018 & rated 94 points: Lovely and at its height when brought near room temperature. (1018 views)
Tasted by cweiner on 1/9/2018 & rated 94 points: Still drinking perfectly. (1121 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 12/7/2017 & rated 95 points: This may be the best domestic white I've tasted, though I'm far more partial to reds. Creamy and balanced, with hints of ripe tropical fruit and a touch of vanilla, this one brought smiles with every sip. (1301 views)
Tasted by petitblanc on 8/25/2017: Madison Offline 2017; 8/24/2017-8/26/2017: Still dominated by oak, with the Chardonnay fruit lingering very faintly in the background. Not scored. 14.3% abv (1530 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 1/25/2017: Seems to be in its preferred window. Baked apple pie, flecked with stones, nuts and spice. Lovely stream of fresh acids keeps the flavors well delineated; the wine seems to have a natural timing all its own and it works - like a well choreographed dance scene. The finish is pretty textbook Morlet, long and satisfying. I see no reason to continue to hold this as it's giving a lot right now and future promises will likely come at some expense. Lovely drop. recommended

PnP, served non-blind over 90 minute dinner. (1735 views)
Tasted by Chriskrueger on 7/27/2014 & rated 94 points: Burgundy Al nailed it. (2336 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 5/3/2014: Wine with Steak and Morels (Chez Kailin - Northbrook IL): Served blind. Ripe apple with baking spice aromas, same flavor profile with very good density. Seemed New World in terms of fruit, but with a talented light hand on the new oak. Good energy throughout. Very good now, with high likelihood of improving over the next few years. (2854 views)
Tasted by Harry Cantrell on 4/12/2014 & rated 91 points: Pale gold. Nose was subtle mix of vanilla cream, pear. Taste was similar with a floral kick. Nice, but again a slight notch below Aubert and Peter Michael, IMO. (1991 views)
Tasted by air guitar & pinot noir on 2/9/2014 & rated 93 points: Impeccable Chardonnay with all the components coming together to form close to perfection. Lovely muted nuttiness, lemon cream, brioche and almost perfect balance. Rich and plush at times but also perfect acidity. Elegant and refined- dare I say a royal family of Chardonnays. (1874 views)
Tasted by shaferguy91 on 6/23/2013 & rated 94 points: Terrific stuff. (2130 views)
Tasted by Chriskrueger on 6/18/2012 & rated 94 points: Remarkable (1817 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
