Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 40 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by rustyRudy on 11/27/2017 & rated 86 points: Interesting. Pale yellow. Diesel fuel, and some new mown hay. Moderately sweet, ripe golden delicious apple, muscadine grapes, some citrus, reasonable tartness, but a little too much residual sugar for my tastes. Not my thing. (1163 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 4/25/2016 & rated 87 points: I liked this better when it was younger. Subtle grapefruit, a whiff of kerosene , and some orange peel. Much better at cellar temperature. Glycerine , apricot pit, mineral , and modest residual sugar, with decent finish . (1766 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 1/10/2015 & rated 90 points: Some Syrahs on a Saturday afternoon (Loretta Paganini School fo Cooking): This is starting to show some age. The nose has minerals and some very slight fruit to it. Nothing like this had in its youth. Slightly oily texture. Complex and interesting. Mineral driven. I would be drinking these up soon though. (2912 views)
Tasted by Chrisinroch on 9/8/2014: No formal notes, but delicious. The fruit screams CA, but there is enough citrus tang to keep it refreshing. (2515 views)
Tasted by Chrisinroch on 6/22/2014: Better on second day. No formal notes, but a warm climate SB that shows more toward lemon curd than grapefruit. Maybe my palate is changing, but it liked this more in the past. Your mileage may vary (2739 views)
Tasted by alohashirt on 10/1/2013 & rated 93 points: Awesome nose, delicious, bright melon fruit, crisp, long finish. Its a bit like a great cross between a domestic fume blanc and a new zealand sauv blanc

It's two thirds the price of Merry Edward's yet it holds its own. This is a superb example of sauvignon blanc.

I've found a new go-to sauv blanc. (3073 views)
Tasted by sirswami on 8/31/2013 & rated 91 points: Wonderfully interesting and enjoyable once again... (2822 views)
Tasted by dhammer53 on 7/23/2013 & rated 92 points: Much improved since last October. Grapefruit nose and taste + minerals that were balanced. Just a smooth, tasty, and delicious wine. The hostess at Lure Fishbar in NY said this was 'summery'. One of my business associates went crazy over this. Great QPR at $25.00. (2515 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 7/20/2013 & rated 94 points: The last bottle of nine and its still going strong. It exhibited all that we and others have commented on. Alas, parting is such sweet sorrow. (1932 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 6/18/2013 & rated 93 points: We really do love this wine. Had as a night cap with the NBA Finals and really just couldn't keep our hands off the bottle. Everything seems to be in perfect balance with the wine right now. (1935 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 6/4/2013: Said goodbye to the last wonderful 2011...the king is dead...long live the king, the 2012. Just love these wines (1338 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 6/1/2013 & rated 93 points: Still loving this wine. Thoroughly enjoyable and delicious. (1143 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 5/27/2013 & rated 93 points: Still loving this wine. All previous comments still apply. (1068 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 5/22/2013 & rated 93 points: Great freshness and flavors especially of fresh pineapple, citrus, and some tropical fruits. (1094 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 5/18/2013 & rated 93 points: Still loving this wine. Core of fresh pineapple and tropical fruits. Pure, refreshing with good bite on the palate. Gotta love it. (933 views)
Tasted by RockinCabs on 5/12/2013 & rated 92 points: Nose: Honeydew Melon, Lime, Meyer Lemon, Herbal Tea and Basil. Palate: Very strong entry with smooth meyer lemon, lime and some tropical fruit notes like mango. Round but not overly so. Finish: Tart, fresh and full with refreshing acidity and pineapple notes.

Who says SB cannot have a "Wow factor"? Russ Bevan really did something special with this wine. (1277 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 5/3/2013 & rated 92 points: Loaded with flavor and a very pleasant nose. (1013 views)
Tasted by Dagalaifus on 4/8/2013 & rated 90 points: This unfiltered wine from an Italian clone of Sauvignon Blanc is straw yellow and cloudy from on the lees fermentation. It is aged in stainless steel and mostly neutral oak. On the nose, there is the aroma of citrus. It is medium-bodied and slightly effervescent with grapefruit, pineapple, melon and guava flavors and very subtle hints of grass and green onions. It lacks the crisp finish and has more residual sugar (seemingly) than the stellar 2010 vintage. Sadly, the Rosemary's Block has increased in price every year and now, has only a so-so QPR. Still, I can't wait to try the 2012 vintage, which was just released. (1251 views)
Tasted by Bleeding Wine on 3/31/2013 & rated 89 points: Lots of tropical fruit....guava, papaya. Also honeydew melon. Great complexity and structure, and the crisp acidity offsets to the tropical sweetness nicely. Saving for summer afternoon. (1141 views)
Tasted by sirswami on 2/3/2013 & rated 92 points: Delicious even in the dead of winter... (1429 views)
Tasted by Chrisinroch on 12/27/2012: Bright citrus tang with a softer more tropical finish. Not sappy, just fruitier. By comparison, 2010 seemed more bracing. Very easy to like this wine. It is a marriage of good fruit and nice acidity. Drank with lobster scrambled eggs sprinkled w truffle oil and it worked pretty well. (1509 views)
Tasted by GTFreek on 12/19/2012: Big aromas, like NZ, but then mineral and complexity like CA and Sancerre. Very interesting. (1481 views)
Tasted by ewasowicz on 12/12/2012 & rated 93 points: Nose: grass, lemon
Taste: lemon, pineapple, awesome Sauvignon blanc (1511 views)
Tasted by sirswami on 11/22/2012 & rated 92 points: Super interesting wine in a very good way, defintely worth a try if you run across this gem. Unfortunately I don't have reliable and specific enough recollections from a wonderful encounter three weeks ago for worthwhile tasing notes... (1464 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 10/26/2012 & rated 93 points: A bit cloudy, but that is typical with this wine. Otherwise, the color was a very pale light yellow. Great nose and decidedly complex body. We had a hard time describing all the flavors we were getting. This is one of our very favorite wines and are not disappointed. (1483 views)

Sauvignon Blanc

Varietal Character

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
