Tasted by cfgwinn@gmail.com on 6/12/2023 & rated 90 points: Likely held this one a tad past its prime. Still, a great wine with a strong finish. Tart cherries, blackberries. In its prime, 92 or 93. (349 views)
Tasted by bjamesclark on 7/1/2022 & rated 92 points: Decanted. Showing moderate fine sediment in bottle.
Color is still saturated and glass staining with dark ruby hues.
Aromas show a foresty edge of damp earth, cedar forest, bramble bush, Spanish moss and eucalyptus scents to the notes of cherry filling, cassis, sunburnt strawberry and nuances of devil's food cake, dried rose and a potpourri quality with hints of anise and pink peppercorn that come with a touch of warmth from the abv.
The palate shows sun-kissed strawberry notes with Kirch and cassis, week-old red vines, bramble, anise, smoke, floral pastilles, dense chocolate cake, earth and hints of pink peppercorn. The finish packs a punch with the full weight of the abv. Balance between the juicy acidity and drying woodsy tannins play out. (832 views)
Tasted by Ed B on 11/3/2021 & rated 93 points: PnP. No detailed notes. Smooth and rich. Drinking very well. (1295 views)
Tasted by Ed B on 7/22/2021 & rated 94 points: PnP and drank over 3 hours. Opaque ruby black. Started as light-bodied for a Turley, but actually got heavier after a few hours; now medium. Evolved throughout the time. 3 hours in, I’m getting blackberries, anise, plums and tart cheries, with Midestern spices. At first it was lean, tart cranberry and tart cherry. Roller coaster in between. Great wine. (1321 views)
Tasted by KerryH on 3/30/2020 & rated 95 points: Lovely, 95 points, spice, fresh-shaved wood, teak, the right balance of acidity and tannins. Full bodied, everything you look for in a refined Zinfandel. Opens and develops continually from opening, improving with each inhale and wave of this work of art over the taste buds. Deep velvet Red, fabulous nose, Thank you to Turley's team and winemaker! 10 years strong and capable of another 10, but gorgeous now! (1944 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 2/1/2020 & rated 92 points: Nose of black cherry, black berry, plum, allspice, and spring flowers, same on the palate, big body, at peak, tasty, mouth filling fruit, worth searching for as it showcases lovely, aged, zinfandel, and a long, long finish. (1981 views)
Tasted by pyrat40 on 2/1/2020 flawed bottle: Sadly this bottle was undrinkable. Odd nose and off putting taste - not vinegar and not corked, no one could really describe it. Too bad because it should have been great. (1568 views)
Tasted by tomlee on 3/2/2019 & rated 93 points: Dark red in color. 16.1% ABV. Stunning nose of brambly red fruits, brown sugar and pepper. Medium to full bodied with ample acidity. Lush with sweet jammy fruits. Well balanced with just a touch of heat on the back palate. Flavors of raspberry liqueur, cherry cordial and white pepper. Exceptional length on the finish. If you are a fan of Ehren Jordan era at Turley then this will be right in your wheelhouse. Best over the next several years. (2185 views)
Tasted by Winedog1 on 8/10/2018 & rated 94 points: Dried fruit. White pepper. Plum. Black tea. Cumin. Menthol. Sweet and tart Port finish. (2515 views)
Tasted by MJMorris55 on 7/4/2018 & rated 92 points: Love Pesenti zin! Beautiful clear deep purple color. Full aromas of dried grass, pepper, spice and ripe plum. Decanted and poured. Flavors of cigar box, nice spicy pepper, cinnamon, hint of wood, dark ripe cherry. Very smooth. Delicious (1994 views)
Tasted by SpoochMan on 5/21/2018 & rated 91 points: This bottle was drinking well. Still loads of fruit, and balanced by some spice notes. Paired especially well with greek-style lamb burgers. I don't think the drinking window is closing on this, as the CT window suggests, but certainly no reason to wait. (1995 views)
Tasted by tbrader on 1/5/2018 & rated 92 points: On the nose... nutmeg, clove, rose hips. It has a lively mouthfeel, restrained pepper notes, ripe dark red fruit. Red currant or dark cherry. Fruit lingers nicely on the tongue. Still playful and richly satisfying. (2221 views)
Tasted by ephorn on 9/22/2017: Big tasty wine. More acidity than alcohol keeps it fresh. I won't be any more specific due to allergies impairing my judgement tonight. I wanted something good to pair with some porcinis I found. Probably 93ish if I wasn't compromised. (2026 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 5/2/2017 & rated 91 points: Really enjoyed Pesenti tonight with bright red fruit, a hint of cotton and pepper with a bit of heat and tannins to finish. Bit of peat and sauvage in the nose. Enjoyable. (2254 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 3/26/2017 & rated 92 points: Really good Turley Zin (2173 views)
Tasted by Kahnru12 on 2/24/2017 & rated 90 points: Bright fruit & richness of flavor. Good depth and mouth feel. Very drinkable now. (2194 views)
Tasted by Doggums on 2/3/2017 & rated 95 points: Wonderful bottle although it took at least an hour to open up. It was fairly tight until that point. (2131 views)
Tasted by levinml on 1/31/2017 & rated 93 points: Always a favorite. Still good, but no reason to wait. (1785 views)
Tasted by joet626 on 1/22/2017 & rated 93 points: Wow!! Outstanding. Loads of fruit. Delicious and juicy (1265 views)
Tasted by MVO Wine on 10/9/2016 & rated 89 points: While I have tended to drink Turley Zins on the younger side, I'm now aging a few to see what happens. With this bottle, the primary fruit and spice notes are now better integrated but the finish was a bit hot. It seems like the high alcohol (16+%) is now more prominent, which disturbed the overall balance of the wine. Still a good wine, but not as pleasurable as drinking it two years ago. (1712 views)
Tasted by pgb67 on 9/8/2016 & rated 89 points: Performances from the Summer of 2016: This came across as something cool climate to me (when it shouldn’t) with good acidity and length, but I paired it with a BBQ dinner and was expecting something fruity and concentrated to cut through the sauce and burnt ends, and that didn’t happen. Maybe I needed a better decant to let it pick up some weight and stream. (1915 views)
Tasted by jonahfactor on 8/27/2016: Gorgeous. A multi-layered necklace with a ruby red color that shows some browning, this still tastes fresh. A lot of complexity, offering what we like so much about these Pesenti offerings. Spicy nose with wild flowers and tar. The palate goes more toward apricots and peaches than black and blue fruits. Lush finish. Picks up some heat (16.1%), but manages to keep its balance. (= Worth Seeking Out) (1642 views)
Tasted by tfesmgk on 7/12/2016 & rated 92 points: Very nice zin. Big pepper and a bit fruitier than most Turley's. (1873 views)
Tasted by silbakor on 6/24/2016 & rated 92 points: A bit bigger richer and slightly sweeter than typical for Pesenti. Still classic zinfandel fruit and pepper aromatics. Subtle red bell pepper also. Very soft tannin at this point - definitely easy drinking now. Some nice spice box. Pleasant acidity. Mouth coating. Nice long finish. Tasty. (1829 views)
Tasted by ravbik on 6/15/2016 & rated 93 points: Classic turley, ripe brambly berries, mild acid. Well balanced (1747 views)

2010 Turley Zinfandel Pesenti Vineyard

Winemaker's Notes: The big diurnal temperature shift in this vineyard on Paso Roble’s west side lends the wine a piercing acidity that can only be Pesenti. In turn, this acid serves to lift the spice, sweet berry fruits and white pepper aromatics into the stratosphere. On the palate it is classic Paso Zinfandel; softer, higher tones with well-balanced acid and tannin structure and unique tartness. Though a dry wine, the “juicy” elements give the impression of a light sweetness.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
