Community Tasting Notes (average 88.9 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 34 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by VinoHunter on 2/18/2018 & rated 91 points: I think this wine is at its peak. This was my last bottle of 6 total bottles and once again it proved to be an excellent chianti. Held up by itself and with homemade Italian pizza. (894 views)
Tasted by TannicBeast on 2/19/2017 & rated 90 points: Tasted blind. Clear, medium (+) ruby with a lot of garnet. Guessed that it is about 10 years old. The nose is clean, medium in intensity, with red and black cherry, black plum and subtle wood influence; probably not new oak. The palate is dry, the acidity is medium (+). The tannins are medium and resolved. The alcohol is medium (+) to high (14%),. This is a well-balanced, medium-bodied wine with a medium (+) flavor intensity and a medium long finish of predominantly black cherry and black plum flavors. It seems to be at its peak, although it certainly will last another year or so. Initially I thought it was a Brunello, but it lacked its weight and fullness. So ultimately I guessed a high end Chianti Classico or a Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, proving once again that this wine is an incredible value. (1042 views)
Tasted by VinoHunter on 12/31/2016 & rated 92 points: Wonderful again... (1042 views)
Tasted by VinoHunter on 6/12/2016 & rated 92 points: Popped the cork around 7AM and then decanted for 3 hours before dinner. Crushed flowers on the nose. Wonderfully dry that led to a full bodied chianti. I hope my remaining bottles are this good. (1233 views)
Tasted by msr on 12/31/2015 & rated 92 points: Really nice and smooth, with just the right bite from the remaining tanins. (1540 views)
Tasted by VinoHunter on 1/4/2015 & rated 91 points: This wine needs time to open up. Decanted at dinner and just kept getting better with the meal. Opens to a smooth and full chianti. (1064 views)
Tasted by TannicBeast on 6/22/2014 & rated 89 points: Clear, medium (+) garnet in color. The nose is clean, medium in intensity, and showing a fair amount of wood influence. The palate is dry, the acidity is medium (+) as are the tannins. The tannins are surprisingly prominent, particularly given the age. The alcohol is medium (+). This is a well-balanced, medium-bodied wine with a medium (+) flavor intensity and a medium long finish of predominantly black cherry and black plum flavors. This is drinking well now and may have another couple years before being fully mature. This is a very good, age-worthy wine which is almost too good for the price point. (1181 views)
Tasted by VinoHunter on 3/23/2014: Similar to previous notes. Due to a cold I couldn't enjoy it fully. (1163 views)
Tasted by Vinfidel on 1/11/2014 & rated 89 points: Italy is ruff but this wine is nice. Dry, seems young and has some time if you want to age it. Good and juicy with medium tannin. Dark warm notes and sneaks up on you. (1321 views)
Tasted by VinoHunter on 7/14/2013 & rated 91 points: I would agree with AGILENUT's notes. But I think the wine scores higher. Had this around a year ago and again last night. It's not your normal chianti, it's big, bold and wonderful. Glad I have more for years to come. (1333 views)
Tasted by agilenut on 3/2/2013 & rated 88 points: The wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Medium. It smells and tastes of oak and blackberry. The body is Full. The wine has Coarse texture. The wine finishes Medium. Needs 1 hour to decant. (1310 views)
Tasted by wine&roses on 1/18/2013 & rated 88 points: Generic. Placeless & too sweet. (1215 views)
Tasted by LizT on 1/5/2013 & rated 89 points: A little oaky, smokey with spice and nice finish. Will buy again. (1171 views)
Tasted by johnnyo on 9/29/2012 & rated 89 points: Very nice. Fruit forward, medium bodied and well balanced. Very good QPR (1233 views)
Tasted by DonWinspear on 8/15/2012 & rated 88 points: Ruby red color. Nose of young, anxious fruit. Palate is full of strawberry, cherry, raspberry. Some florals. Nice firm tannins with a mild oaky background suggesting a few years of cellaring may be of benefit. Moderate finish with no bitterness. Delightful, and well worth the price. (1161 views)
Tasted by corky1 on 8/3/2012 & rated 89 points: Beautiful Chianti Classico at a good price. Dark cherries, violets and leather notes on the nose. Fairly tannic but not in an unbalanced way. Good weekday wine with hearty Italian fair, pizza or even burgers. (1058 views)
Tasted by OTTnMIA on 7/2/2012 & rated 89 points: Fantastic Chianti! Could have fooled me for a Brunello blind. Rich, thick mouth feel (moreso than most chiantis), classic profile of soil, oak, bright red fruit. Wonderful stuff, and fantastic QPR! (1026 views)
Tasted by Alpton on 3/17/2012 & rated 91 points: Despite being made in a modern style, this 100% Sangiovese aged for 14 months in French barrique retains its rustic sense of place. Alluring nose of spice, leather and earth; not a lot of fruit here. Flavors of cherry and red plum are supported by firm tannins and pretty high acidity, showing its aging potential. The barrel influence comes out on the finish with notes of chocolate and toasty oak, that are intermingling with a hint of sour cherry. 14% alcohol is a bit too high (retail $19.99) (3836 views)

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
