Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 88.7 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 46 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by juffer on 4/5/2017 & rated 90 points: This wine just keeps getting better with even more complexity in the nose. Pear and sea shells as before, but now also something floral and lower pitched layered in that I can't pin down. Creamy mouth, long but subtle finish. May disappoint if you're looking for young bright acidity, but this wine is all about the outstanding complexity in the nose and well textured mouth. Great QPR. (1345 views)
Tasted by diggydan on 8/31/2016 & rated 90 points: Really nice smell on this - a little sweet orchard fruit flower. Lime and crisp seashell salinity on the palate. Acidity is mouth watering. (1432 views)
Tasted by diggydan on 5/15/2016 & rated 91 points: A really nice touch of sweetness on this....almost like my dream of a kabinett. Perfect match with mussels and steamed potato dressed a dijon vinagrette. (1528 views)
Tasted by gbanks on 7/9/2015: Agree with JUFFER. This is really in a nice place and will continue to get better. (1930 views)
Tasted by juffer on 6/18/2015 & rated 90 points: Has continued to improve since previous tasting a year ago. Similar experience, but wine has become even more open, with a touch more fruit (especially some pear that I had noticed last time). Even in its youth this wine didn't have the piercing acidity that I usually look for in a muscadet. But on the other hand, this is an incredibly well balanced wine with loads of minerality and an excellent finish. (2013 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 3/4/2015: Back a couple of vintages... and showing its age? Not at all. In fact, even more intense, powerful and dare I say it with Muscadet? voluptous? full of fruit? Open, powerful and intensely long last. What a wine. (1568 views)
Tasted by Vinsant on 8/17/2014: Solid as usual. Salty citrus, chalk, flowers, and dried herbs. Not as complex as the '10 but still rockin'. (1727 views)
Tasted by Kitura on 7/7/2014 & rated 87 points: Watery yellow coloured. Lemon and brine. Simple, balanced, clean and delicious wine.. The clos de briords has much more complexity to it, though this is still very enjoyable. (1674 views)
Tasted by juffer on 7/1/2014 & rated 89 points: Citrus nose. Light bodied. Less acidity than typical, but still ample and refreshing. A bit of creaminess, but not overdone. Loads of mineral, good dry finish with a touch of bitter. Overall, a very elegant wine and a great QPR. May be a bit too delicate for the classic raw shellfish pairing, but nevertheless looking forward to trying it next time. (1348 views)
Tasted by geeky? not sure on 5/8/2014: First muscadet for me. Shocked how much body this had. Great zip. Truly delicious. (1493 views)
Tasted by SiR on 4/12/2014 & rated 87 points: 12.0% - Clear, light lemon / clean, med to low intensity - lemon, yuzu, shellfish, minerality / dry, med to high zippy acidity, low and lean body, med- intensity, made to be paired with freshly shucked oysters.
Less depth and spice than the 2010, which makes the few $ worth of getting the Clos des Briords for the 2011 vintage. (1470 views)
Tasted by Onthelees on 4/7/2014 & rated 90 points: Paired at home with scallops Provençal accompanied by garlic roasted asparagus and cherry tomatoes. The wines lemon and lemon zest profile and zingy minerality/ acidity was the perfect complement. Check out Ina Garten's recipe. The combo was a real treat. Don't forget the baguette. (1059 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 12/12/2013: Darn, this is darn good. (1416 views)
Tasted by prism on 10/27/2013 & rated 89 points: What a value. Incredibly easy to drink, and my wife, who,is generally indifferent to most wines of any color, likes it very much; if there is a varietal that I would consider "hers", this is it. Clean, lean, and bright, with a nice, light balance of seashells, minerals, and stone fruits. Paired very well with grilled red snapper filets. And for $11? Muscadet rocks. (1298 views)
Tasted by Serge Birbrair on 10/21/2013: starter made in heaven (1460 views)
Tasted by Rob and Meg on 9/21/2013 & rated 89 points: This is simply delicious. Filled with vivid lime peel and juicy lemon over wonderful crushed sea shell and wet slate. Fantastic citrus acidity defines the finish. Its hard to imagine a better, or more enjoyable wine at this price. (1275 views)
Tasted by 5laton on 8/16/2013: Fantastic vintage for the Classique. Has everything I want from this wine: pure lemon/lime fruit, chalky minerality, great acid, nice body from the sur lie aging. (1304 views)
Tasted by MLipton on 8/8/2013: A classic rendition of this great QPR wine, it had a nose of rainwater and light citrus and a refreshing, palate cleansing aspect that felt almost like drinking from a mountain stream. It was great with freshly made pasta and it would be great on its own. (1186 views)
Tasted by David_T on 6/29/2013 & rated 86 points: Citrus, strong minerals, a touch of herbs/saline. A bit light/simple, but pleasant on a warm summer day. (1217 views)
Tasted by indiscriminate palate on 6/16/2013 & rated 82 points: My first Muscadet from the 2011 vintage. Not at all impressed. There is nothing wrong here, but there is nothing right, either. Incredibly simple lemon/acid concoction with just a bit of brioche but nothing compelling to it. (1178 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 6/15/2013: A Flight of Muscadet (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Classically light, herbal, tangy and mineral. Very good. (1468 views)
Tasted by Vinsant on 6/10/2013: Money with oysters! Seashell, citrus, orange juice, and chalk. (1268 views)
Tasted by Antti on 6/7/2013: Compared to the delicious and ageable 2010, this is somewhat of a letdown. Well, it's not bad for the price, but this somehow more simple and, dare I say it, even a bit flabby. Slim citrus fruit aromas, and quite pleasant. It's still a nice quaffer. I'd drink this young. Tasted with Marc Ollivier. (1118 views)
Tasted by smahk on 6/1/2013 & rated 87 points: Color: pale yellow
Nose: lemon, grass, crisp and clean
Taste: lemon, green apple, grass with nice balanced acidity finished with a little salt.

Thus is the perfect wine for a hot sultry night. Not sweet nor cloying, leaving a refreshing tangy finish. Just a wonderful find for $12. (1191 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 6/1/2013 & rated 89 points: What a pleasant surprise. Very nice. Amazing for the price. (1058 views)

Melon de Bourgogne

Melon de Bourgogne or Melon is a variety of white grape grown primarily in the Loire Valley region of France. It is also grown in North America. It is best known through its use in the white wine Muscadet.

In the U.S., Federal law prevents "Muscadet" from being used for American-produced wine; only the full name of the grape, or the shortened "Melon" can be used.
