Tasted by Jasonr1023 on 12/25/2023 & rated 92 points: Great with standing rib roast? (670 views)
Tasted by unrelenting on 10/25/2023 & rated 92 points: Great to see how well it integrated over the past four years. Big, jammy modern style with a solid finish (859 views)
Tasted by trumpet60201 on 9/3/2023 & rated 91 points: 2nd of 6. The nose immediately shows black olives and spice - a lovely fragrance. The palate immediately shows its heat. The fruit is lovely with nice persistence. (855 views)
Tasted by Flemboy on 7/15/2023 & rated 94 points: Opened magnum for 6 hours, for a group of friends. We tasted dark fruits, licorice, pepper, and notes of herbs. Very full bodied, approachable and lovely with a red meat or lamb. Wonderful wine. (956 views)
Bonne longueur. (1021 views)
Tasted by frenchiecagowine on 1/29/2023 & rated 91 points: Much better than previous bottles I tasted which used to show lots of power and alcohol. Did it just need more time? Was my palate more ready for it this time? I'm not sure but it was much more supple than last times, not overly high in alcohol and quite pleasant to drink on its own really.
Dark fruits, hints of kirsch and Provence herbs notes. (1061 views)
Tasted by Roughl on 12/12/2022 & rated 92 points: From magnum. Drank over two days. Opened for lunch. First glass was a bit disjointed, 5 hours open the wine sang. Keep it below 18 c and this is fantastic. Manages to stay balanced then. Secondary flavors and early tertiary. In a nice place. Has years to go in this 150cl format in a cold cellar. (1189 views)
Tasted by JimSlatin on 11/27/2022 & rated 88 points: In a good place right now; Nice brambly fruit, a touch of grip with the tannins; a touch of heat but minimal; No need to hold on to this vintage much longer because we all thought it was near the end of its peak. (1065 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 7/4/2022 & rated 90 points: Good but not the quality I have enjoyed of this wine from other vintages. (1416 views)
Tasted by DrBad on 12/12/2021 & rated 95 points: Barnyard and saline aromas on opening, turning to dark fruits and herbs with some air. Lots of minerality and structure for the first hour which gave way to more full bodied dark fruits, licorice, kirsch, and smooth, mouth coating tannins. Delicious! (2043 views)
Tasted by mjgkng on 11/23/2021 & rated 90 points: Medium body and mellow. Very nice. (1613 views)
Tasted by trumpet60201 on 9/9/2021 & rated 90 points: Showed some age in color and on the nose, but fruit is still there massively and quite sweet. It's really lovely in many ways, but a bit too sweet for me... It's also pretty hot at 15.5%, but the alcohol integrates more after some air. Much better showing after about 5 hours in the decanter. (1144 views)
Tasted by tmagsmaken on 5/30/2021 & rated 91 points: Nice bouquet with dark fruit and cassis, some leather and spices.
On the palate, it is notable how juicy this wine is. It is medium-full bodied with the tannins well integrated. However, I find the alcohol present, not so much as to make the wine unbalanced but still noticeable. Long finish. Overall, very good wine that drinks very well but the alcohol holds it back from a higher score. (2558 views)
Tasted by Marc on 5/17/2021 & rated 94 points: Really spicy wine, whose fragrance is the outstanding feature. Essence of Grenache, with a real kirsch nose and initial fruit entry which is beguiling. Farmyard and (expensive) leather adds interest and class. A bid wine with spicy heat fro the alcohol. An outstanding g wine by any measure, this is fabulous for the vintage. Mineral top note (oyster shell), a hint of caramel, very spicy finish with very very fine tannins. The alcohol does feel a little hot for the weight of the wine, Only in early maturity, and may eve olive into something really interesting with further ageing. (2110 views)
Tasted by Wine_Poobah on 3/20/2021 & rated 93 points: Typical Châteauneuf-du-Pape aroma with ripe black fruit and barnyard notes. Slightly sweet black fruit flavor with notes of blackberry, black currant, black cherry, plum, raisin, graphite, and vanilla. Soft, plush texture. Decent alcohol with a slight burn on the finish. Well integrated at this point.

Hold, still plenty of life. Not a great vintage but very tasty nonetheless, just don’t expect mind blowing complexity.

One guest found this “offensively poopy” but I did not. (2140 views)
Tasted by Renevin on 3/16/2021 flawed bottle: Anis, encre au départ.
 Tasted by jreynolds3 on 2/20/2021 & rated 93 points: From a magnum. (2049 views)
Tasted by markcic on 12/24/2020 & rated 92 points: Well our usual large Xmas Eve dinner was downsized to 8 people this year. We still managed to drink two magnums of wine. This and the Janasse Chaupin of the same vintage. The nose on this wine was deeper than its cousin. The palate was blackberry, dark plums, a hint of licorice and a touch of cedar. A finish that was moderately long and it was a perfect accompaniment to the rack of pork it was served with as well as the cheese course that followed. (1946 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 9/11/2020 & rated 93 points: Deep purple color. Aromas of blackberries, plums, licorice and wood spices. Ripe, full-bodied, nicely-integrated fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Very thick and long on the palate and great intensity. A superlative effort for the 2011 vintage. At peak. (2199 views)
Tasted by beatles on 6/3/2020 & rated 92 points: Very good, just a hair behind the Chaupin - for now. Concentrated, evenm stony, bit of a tough nut, will gain from furtjer cellaring - it has the quality. No prunes or excessive alcohol, thank you very much.
#RH-A (2846 views)
Tasted by Ianjaig on 3/20/2020 & rated 91 points: Decanted for 3 hours. Opened up more fully after 5 hours. Alcohol still needs to burn off, raisens and blueberries. Big wine. Good drinking window but could go longer (depending on your style preference). (2403 views)
Tasted by Jokermac on 1/24/2020 & rated 91 points: Decanted for about 2 hours. Tight to start, but after opening up it showed more character. Give it another 2-3 years before opening next bottle. (2331 views)
Tasted by SLOFred on 12/28/2019 & rated 94 points: CDP as good as it can get. Delicious blend. Down to one bottle that could use another several years. Definitely a wine to save for a special occasion. (2299 views)
Tasted by Jasonr1023 on 12/25/2019 & rated 93 points: Wait a few years. Better on night 2 (1992 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
