Tasted by etyc on 4/20/2024: Decanted (Voss) for ~3hrs before serving, alongside the 2011 SQN 11th Confession Grenache. Both high-octane blockbusters, this came across even "bigger" than the SQN. At 17-yrs (of age), this still seemed to be evolving (if at all) at a glacier pace. Nosed of blackberries, figs and some herbs, this was big, lush, concentrated, jammy (w/ hints of stewed fruits) but yet showed good freshness/acidity on the palate. Hopefully the extraction/lushness will temper down with more age, and coupled with the acidity/freshness, it'll develop into a more attractive wine... For now, quite a bruiser... (162 views)
Tasted by NY Wino on 3/29/2024 flawed bottle: The 2007 CDP vintage continues to disappoint. Was really hoping for a good bottle here, as this wine has been properly stored since release. Alas it is sadly DOA. (432 views)
Tasted by King Julien on 2/19/2024 & rated 96 points: Decanted about an hour. Great nose and palate for a couple hours afterwards. Rather powerful on both, but paired well with Greek gyros and tzatziki. (797 views)
Tasted by ChrisR on 1/16/2024: Drank at dinner, so no detailed notes, but damn, this was good. A heavenly nose, and such intensity on the palate. I'm almost sorry I shared it with the rest of the dinner party. (974 views)
Tasted by ttchan2024 on 11/29/2023 & rated 95 points: Bottle decanted for 2 hours.
Very expressive.
Still have at least 5-10 years. (350 views)
Tasted by ppandian on 9/24/2023 & rated 91 points: Taut, lithe, notes of strawberries and red fruits. Jammy, but balanced. (1422 views)
Tasted by ppandian on 8/24/2023 & rated 90 points: Drinking well..Peppery notes, strawberries and blueberries. Redolent and grippy on the palate. (1454 views)
Tasted by Mad Dog Mikey on 7/1/2023: Drank the Vielles Vignes along with a long list of other red wines - I beleive that I would have enjoyed this wine a lot more on its own rather than alongside more structured Bordeaux-blends. For those that are still holding on to this vintage it probably has quite a few years to go. (1562 views)
Tasted by bon vivant on 2/2/2023: Revisiting this after many years and I can see why this can be a controversial wine. Even after 15 years with a chance to settle down the extraction and mouth feel are impressive. Blackberry compote comes to mind but it is not flabby as there is excellent grip and structure here. If you are an SQN fan this will undoubtedly be in your alley. Traditionalist will however scoff at this and likely call it a freak saying it is not typical and lacks a sense of place. Does it strike as a classic CNDP -not, but is is it a unique and well made wine, hell yes. Tonight we had it SBS with a 2007 Clos Des Pape which exhibited a much more traditional disposition but was also fairly opulent. 2 great wines which expressed the beauty of this vintage and should continue to evolve and drink for decades. The Jansse VV did seem to be slightly more favored FWIW. YMMV. (2156 views)
Tasted by Topper on 2/2/2023 & rated 90 points: Still drinking well. Still over the top. Will never become anything other than what it is, but if you like big jammy wines made with care, then this is your bottle. (2123 views)
Tasted by RayOB on 1/29/2023 & rated 92 points: Drank in London
This is a big wine and needs time in the decanter. Deep large palate with incredible richness. (1665 views)
Ausgezeichnet langer Abgang. 94 vvPunkte www.vvwine.ch (1923 views)
Tasted by ppandian on 12/27/2022 & rated 90 points: Fantastic. Peppery notes, strawberries and blueberries. Redolent and grippy on the palate. (1557 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 11/28/2022 & rated 94 points: Rich, lush, opulent, and jammy, there is intensity, length, volume, and multiple layers of ripe, very ripe, and over-ripe fruits with the beginnings of touches of figs in every sniff and sip. Drink from 2022-2027. (3070 views)
Tasted by shaftlet on 11/26/2022 flawed bottle: 3rd bottle with consistent notes. For fans of Tawny Port and Tootsie Rolls. If you have perfect cellar conditions and your bottles never saw any heat on the boat (which I suspect mine did) this may still be ok. Judging by the notes of others, the enveloppe was pushed here and this fell apart. (1255 views)
Tasted by Nutty08 on 11/5/2022 & rated 89 points: Rhone Birthday 2022; 11/4/2022-11/6/2022: Maybe aging better than I initially expected, but still not my thing. Still hit and bit unbalanced. Shows a dark fruit and spice note and lack some lift--but there's considerable depth here with the dark concentrated fruit. Heat mars the finish. (1598 views)
Tasted by ppandian on 9/4/2022 & rated 91 points: Lively and fresh. Taut and balanced. Notes of red berries with a hint of salinity. (1659 views)
Tasted by 32lakeviewwine on 5/7/2022 flawed bottle: Bottle was bad. (2231 views)
Tasted by pjaines on 12/26/2021: This wine is a complete disgrace and insult to moderation... taste.. good wine making. This is sweet... stewed... it is not even a fruit bomb but a tired flabby crappy peice of junk. The best phrase i hear about Parker ( who gave this peice of crap wine 100 points) is that in wine terms he likes blondes with big boobs. Ignore the cellartracker scores on this crime scene of a wine and search out better things. (3053 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 11/21/2021 & rated 87 points: Finishing up the remnants of Friday’s bottle. Really ripe and raisiny. Sweet black fruit and raisin on the palate with hints of licorice. (3145 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 11/19/2021 & rated 92 points: Friday Night Brown Bagger (Eagle Brook CC): Blind, but easy to pick out as our CndP in this flight. Notes of caramel, black fruit and herbs. Medium-bodied, with flavors of caramel and sweet red and black fruit. Gains some complexity as it sits in the glass, adding licorice, black fruit liqueur and ripe berry elements. Raisin qualities apparent in the background.

This had been double decanted off its sediment about two & a half hours before the flight was poured. Nowhere near a 100-pt wine, let alone worth the coin. I've yet to have a 2007, other than Pegau, that's been worthy of the pro review or price. (2925 views)
Tasted by King Julien on 10/3/2021 & rated 96 points: Decanted 3 hours. (2785 views)
Tasted by wizlb on 6/18/2021 & rated 100 points: This is a pop and pour story of a 14 year old wine, Chateauneuf wine from Janasse Vieilles Vignes that’s beautiful.

No decanting, no airing out, it’s a night of pop the cork and simply poured a glass of wine.

But what a full body, extremely long finish that is balanced, it is simply spectacular after all these years later, and it has so many more years left too. (2913 views)
Tasted by King Julien on 4/25/2021 & rated 96 points: Decanted 3 hours. (2399 views)
Tasted by Vini Ciclismo on 4/9/2021 & rated 95 points: Deep ruby red.
Dark ripe berries, strong salty spice, dried herbs, tar and ink.
Silky, very intense, but very focused, brilliant structure. Soft fine plentiful tannins. Nice blend of dark fruits, crushed herbs, olives, ink, tar and sweet licorice. A little earthy complexity on the very long finish. Delicious and a very long future ahead. (2442 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
