Tasted by wythes on 3/8/2022 & rated 88 points: Almost a year since the last CT reviewer said anything about this wine, so I'll pick up the torch and say this wine is past it's prime. Deep golden color but not much of a nose and flat on the palate. The bottle lacked any fruit or structure. I've had plenty of Kistler Hyde, and I know how good this wine can be. In this instance, it wasn't that great. (565 views)
Tasted by stoneb on 4/18/2021 & rated 90 points: Opened 30 mins prior to first glass and consumed over 3 nights (vacu-vin & back in cellar in interim). Golden straw color. Mostly vanilla and oak on nose. Ripe stone and tropical fruit on palate with vanilla and oak in background. Best on night 1, with good acidity and freshness. Faded over following evenings. Was considerably better a few years ago. Drink soon, preferably in one evening. (881 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 7/14/2020 & rated 93 points: Similar to the 7/19/19 bottle. (1189 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 1/2/2020 & rated 90 points: Light golden yellow. There is lemon, tangerine, minerals, and touches of caramel and butterscotch. Fruit is fading. Finishes with significant oak. I liked this more earlier in its life. Did well with roasted chicken. (1647 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 7/9/2019 & rated 93 points: Light gold color. Aromas of ripe pears, candied lime, honeysuckle and wood spices. Ripe, fully-integrated fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Intense and very persistent on the palate. Still in the sweet spot of maturity and delicious with the outstanding fish first courses at Pumpkin Restaurant. (1152 views)
Tasted by Justinwine on 3/27/2019 & rated 95 points: All grown up and ready to go. Warm honey, citrus fruit. Loved it! (1198 views)
Tasted by Markie_Sharkie on 4/15/2018 & rated 92 points: Great Chardonnay. Nice tropical fruit tones, good acidity and smooth finish. Not overly buttery. Paired well with prosciutto wrapped sea bass and risotto. (1574 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 2/23/2018 & rated 95 points: Best Kistler that I've ever had. Definitely more of a mineral-driven chard, which is more 'my style.' The nose of this wine right after cork pop is a litlte peculiar, but gets a lot more enjoyable after 30 minutes. Nose of Asian pear, mango, melon, tame citrus notes. These notes are repeated on the palate, with a mineral density. On the entry, this is a wine that has rounded edges yet stone ground fruit palate. Finish is still quite dry. Herb rich, fruit dominant, dry. Beautiful. This one will go a few more years for sure. (1274 views)
Tasted by oldmanalamo on 4/22/2017 & rated 91 points: Light amber color, almost golden. Needed a full hour to open up, and improved the longer it stayed in the glass. Nose of honeysuckle and ripe pear. Lush and balanced, with a honey and mango finish. A very nice wine, but left us a little underwhelmed. (1789 views)
Tasted by dlcass on 3/25/2017 & rated 96 points: Very nice wine. Beguiling nose of persimmon, pineapple, brioche. Nice acidity, mouth feel and finish. (1781 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 2/19/2017 & rated 93 points: Drinking really well, with all its floral, citrus and tropical fruits in abundance. Fresh and lively, well balanced with rich, buttery characteristics. (2840 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 1/18/2017 & rated 94 points: Outstanding fruit, acid, overall balance. Drink now or over next 2 years. (1374 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 4/16/2016 & rated 91 points: Good fruit, needs more acid. (2121 views)
Tasted by mjf@ulkner on 1/13/2016 & rated 93 points: This has lost some of its previous flabbiness- plenty of chiseled minerality layered with apricot and citrus flavors. Refreshing and delicious- probably near peak. (1571 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 12/13/2015 & rated 92 points: All 2010's:

Ramey Hyde: quite mellow at this stage, fruit not as intense, crystalline mineral long finish with some salinity. 92

Kistler Hyde: better fruit than Ramey, but less complex and shorter finish. 92

Chasseur Lorenzo: flat, fruit and finish inferior to the other wines, leesy character on the palate. 89

Mt. Eden Estate: restrained in style, good cut and acidity, outshined by the more fruit forward wines. Not surprising considering the house style. 91 (1812 views)
Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 7/24/2015 & rated 96 points: Wonderful. Apricots and honey, not tropical. Gorgeous. Love it. (2224 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 7/24/2015 & rated 94 points: Straw colored. Peach, oak, tangerine and mango on the nose. These carry through on the palate. Minerals, almond paste, vanilla, honeydew and a little bit of butter and butterscotch highlight the long and complex flavor profile. More oak and less acid than Aubert and DuMol single vineyard Chards. I liked this better than my one bottle of 09 Hyde that I had last year. Drinking well now. Clearly okay to keep and drink later as well. (2389 views)
Tasted by BuzzzzOff on 7/11/2015 & rated 95 points: The first Chardonnay of the day before 1998 Gaia & Rey, 2009 Jean Charlton Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatieres and 2010 Philippe Chavy Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles so tough test. Fortunately, the crisp straw yellowish, citrus-lemon with good oak aroma and silky smooth palate of vanilla cream and oak made for an outstanding Kistler. Relatively long finish. Only one more left in the cellar for sipping in2020. (1527 views)
Tasted by jrm81 on 5/15/2015 & rated 95 points: Best of 3 2010 Chardonnays we have had recently (others were Aubert and Peter Michael). Pear, peach and melon flavors with a wonderful balancing acidity. Best Kistler I have had in years. (1323 views)
Tasted by Ranndy on 12/15/2014 & rated 92 points: Feels great on the palate. Soft yet full. Hint of caramel. Fruit is all in the background. Yum! Just as good as the taste I had at Trenton Roadhouse (Kistler Tasting Room). (1515 views)
Tasted by REWindsor on 5/9/2014 & rated 94 points: Ready to roll. Large mouthfeel and complex. Honey and apricot notes. Still lively and young. Very drinkable. (1806 views)
Tasted by winelover1808 on 8/18/2013 & rated 95 points: wow. this was grand cru like IMHO. great layers of bright fruit, balanced by acidity and minerality. long finish. a great wine. age worthy as well but very very enjoyable today. had with red hawk cowgirl creamery cheese, nicasio square and petit basque. (2545 views)
Tasted by William Kelley on 8/3/2013: More rich and lavish than the Trenton Roadhouse at this showing, but perhaps also more seamlessly constructed, the 2010 Hyde offers up aromas of lemon custard, buttered popcorn, Grand Mariner and some ripe stone fruit. The acids are notably bright, both by virtue of the vintage and the stylistic shifts at Kistler. This is a very compelling, drinkable Chardonnay! (3138 views)
Tasted by B Paul on 3/9/2013: My first single vineyard Kistler Chard. This was really nice. Better on night two. (2511 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Napa / Sonoma

SONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level.
The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.
