Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 5 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by wmccone54 on 10/14/2017 & rated 88 points: Full bodied aromas of dark, milky chocolate, black coffee, along with dark malt and yeast. Foamy and frothy head that maintains throughout. Full throttle flavors of very sweet chocolate and some creamy mocha. As others have pointed out, this beer is very sweet, heavy, and a bit one dimensional, which really wears on the palate. A large 550 ml bottle will definitely leave you full. (733 views)
Tasted by Vinnut on 3/19/2016 & rated 90 points: Deep dark amber in color, almost opaque with small beading & a light foamy head. Full, fragrant & aromatic nose of roasted malt aromas with overtones of dark chocolate & coffee grounds, citrus & floral notes, yeasty, some toffee/caramel notes & a hint of vanilla in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of balanced, smooth & creamy texture of roasted malt flavors, dark cocoa & coffee, yeasty, citrus, baking spices & caramel/vanilla. Lingering creamy finish. An interesting & seamless blend between the roasted malt & the dark chocolate. (868 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 3/10/2014: This came off to sweet for me. While made organically, which I appreciate and support, the flavors are not my thing. The chocolate is too sweet, like a tootsie roll flavor. I would have liked to have more bitter and savory qualities to the chocolate. (1310 views)
 Tasted by grafstrb on 2/7/2013: -- crown-capped 550mL bottle --
-- tasted non-blind from a tulip glass --

NOSE: expressive: milk chocolate and pipe tobacco; this smells absolutely awesome; pipe tobacco note weakens and chocolate note strengthens with time in the glass.

BODY: black color; ample head; medium to medium-full bodied.

TASTE: initially: liquid milk chocolate with great acidity; slightly sweet milk chocolate. After 10 minutes: a milky note starts to emerge, and the beer gets increasingly sweet and gross; I could hardly drink the rest of it. For the first 10 minutes/few sips, this beer was awesome, but after that it was downright nasty. I will not buy this again. (1553 views)
