Community Tasting Notes (average 89.7 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 95 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Mallards on 8/31/2023 & rated 94 points: We love how Whitehall Lane ages. This was elegant, beautiful and yet still tannin forward. I would encourage you to drink now if you have it. But if not, I suspect this has a few more years of great life to it. (217 views)
Tasted by Baron Slick on 9/19/2020 & rated 93 points: Ripe black cherries, cassis, and raspberry liqueur aromas are wreathed in elegant weight, structure, and complexity. Shows a melted richness, energetic cut, and succulent, black raspberry flavors atop savory notes of licorice, camphor, and conifer. It feels pretty complete now but has plenty left in the tank. (1630 views)
Tasted by whinemeister on 6/11/2019 & rated 90 points: Popped and poured - was nice from first sip. Lots of dark fruit, integrated tannins, little acid. Drinking really well. (2007 views)
Tasted by chatters on 2/1/2019: Annual Coravin blitz - day two (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Slightly jammy blackcurrant, berry and plums with vanilla and sweet spice. In the mouth its all jammy fruit, alcohol and plentiful tannins. Quite savoury, rather massive. (2230 views)
Tasted by whinemeister on 10/27/2018 & rated 90 points: Very nice. Decanted for an hour. Dark fruit on nose. Plum and blackcurrant on palate. Integrated tannins, little acidity. I have more of this and look forward to trying again in a couple of months. (2137 views)

Tasted by Markie_Sharkie on 5/18/2015 & rated 88 points: Needs to be decanted to open up. Very closed and bland out of the bottle. Good nose. Opens up nicely with about an hour decanting. Can't tell if it will age well or just needs some decanting. Drinks nicely now. Medium-long finish. (1919 views)

well integrated and possibly more secrets to the owner who can keep their hands off this wine that is darn good right now (2101 views)
Tasted by ATIVA on 12/28/2014 & rated 90 points: Very deep ruby. Crushed black fruit and cassis give way to some spice and cedar. This is still very young, but it's quite nice. Aerated 20 minutes in the bottle before drinking. I will be waiting a couple years for future bottles. (2121 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
