Tasted by Mikeiza on 1/7/2024 & rated 90 points: I was hoping form a more balanced and better finish for this price, not impressed (257 views)
Tasted by Nekodab on 12/22/2022 & rated 95 points: Very smooth!! Drink NOW on the verge (858 views)
Tasted by t0pshelf on 12/13/2020: Bright and vivid, especially the nose, though maybe a touch on the "green" side but not in an offensive way. Would buy again! (2030 views)
Tasted by Martin Ferland on 6/20/2020 & rated 89 points: Poivron vert 😕 (2304 views)
Tasted by pgrzesik on 4/13/2020 & rated 90 points: I know 2011 was a tough vintage for Napa - but at 9 years old this wine is really hitting its stride. The nose is elegant with lots of red cherries, leather, licorice, baking spice, tobacco, and a bit of green pepper. The palate is medium bodied, smooth, nicely integrated tannins a really nice finish. I had the flagship Dominus 2011 also - and it was a bit more fuller and more opulent compared to this, but this is still such a treat for a fraction of the price. (2472 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 11/2/2019 & rated 90 points: Regular dinner group. Many wines based on the book “1001 wines you must try before you die”. (By EM @ Bottles): In the bouquet dark berries and sweet spices like cinnamon. On the palate creamy dark berries and chocolate, vanilla, some earth and autumn impressions, good acidity and full bodied. (3182 views)
Tasted by Thirsty1 on 10/14/2019: I stumbled upon this at my local liquor store and looked suspiciously at the bottle. The cork was in perfect shape with no seepage. Secondary notes escaped with leather and cigar box, hint of vegetal (bell pepper) note but good.. Some brick around edge and no water table. Velvety, round and supple. Although a little light in the mid pallet and a shorter finish - it delivers. And for less the $50 - a no brainer. It's not going to get any better, but it's really good right now. (2297 views)
Tasted by Bobhelge on 9/13/2019 & rated 91 points: Opulent with velvety oak veil. Inky background, black currant and what I’m sure to be the cab franc’s contribution in forms of roasted bell pepper. Sweet fruit and spice on the palate with soft structure. Better than the last 2011 (1481 views)
Tasted by Nutty08 on 9/5/2019 & rated 91 points: On the thinner less ripe side. Clear herbaceous element but holds it together nicely. Decent depth and complexity but probably less than more “stellar” years. Enjoyed. Probably at peak. (1266 views)
Tasted by Otaku Oenophile on 10/28/2018 & rated 93 points: My last bottle. Wish I had more.

Currants, plum, spices, tobacco and forest floor. Greener and more bell pepper than the later vintages but still very enjoyable in it's own way. (1830 views)
Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 5/26/2018 & rated 87 points: Popped and poured. Dark red but translucent. Green bell pepper, blackberry, garrigue and herbal notes on the nose; green bell pepper overwhelms the attack; blackberry, sage and dusty herbs on the finish. Some others cite the vintage, I think this is typical of a second wine - clumsy and unsubtle. Either pay up for the Dominus or stick with the real deal from Bordeaux! Better quality at a similar price. (2148 views)
Tasted by Otaku Oenophile on 10/6/2017 & rated 91 points: This is drinking very well.

Sweet tobacco, red currant, bell pepper and spices. (2990 views)
Tasted by BigSilly on 9/7/2017 & rated 91 points: Found at a great price at PA state store (<$40). Was reluctant to purchase given poor vintage and some poor reviews but eager to try napanook for the first time while my 2013s age.

Pleasantly surprised. Although the nose was green, there were interesting earthy and vegetal notes (fall forest floor and jalapeño). Some subtle bubble gum emerged as it opened in decanter. (3046 views)
Tasted by chrishsh on 2/3/2017 & rated 87 points: Dark ruby red. With a bit of herb on its aroma hints. Silky blueberry with mild tannin on the palate. Not a long after-taste but good quality wine within its price range. (3859 views)
Tasted by Bobhelge on 12/9/2016 & rated 90 points: Cool aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and lead pencil. Opens up after a while with plummy aromas. Green lavendel, dark fruit and espresso on the palate with balanced oaky flavours in the finish. I am definitely more in the Bordeaux area on this. Maybe not the best of vintages but still holds well for a regular Friday night. (3297 views)
Tasted by scotty_b on 11/6/2016 & rated 90 points: Green bell pepper/tobacco/spice dominated, which I enjoyed. Notes of cherry, licorice, and mocha. Limited depth and weight, but still delicious. (3140 views)
Tasted by skurtz on 11/3/2016 & rated 91 points: At Ridgewood. First wine to start the evening, a bit tight on the nose, graphite and red fruit on the nose and palate. Easy drinking, but not overly complex. Well balanced and smooth. (2339 views)
Tasted by srdzak on 9/27/2016 & rated 89 points: Blind I would have tagged this as Old World Bordeaux, maybe a Cantenac Brown or other left bank style. Definite decant needed, minimum 2 hours. Herbal, cedar, forest floor and plum on the nose. Licorice, plum, espresso and touch of bell pepper on the palate but nice ripe round mouthfeel that finishes light but fresh with silky tannins. Definitely a big change this vintage from 2010, but still a nice food friendly wine though might surprise those who are expecting a New World Napa wine. If you are a Bordeaux fan this will satisfy. (2428 views)
Tasted by sunnylea57 on 9/5/2016 & rated 89 points: Red and black fruit (but leaning heavily to the red side), a little liquorice, some milk chocolate, and just a hint of earthiness. Any oak influence is well hidden. Tannins are fully resolved. I think this is about as good as it's going to get; no point in waiting further. An enjoyable wine, but also ultimately forgettable.  Tasted by mntebolt on 4/24/2016: Drank w Kim at Ya-Yas, wine was so-so! (2124 views)
Tasted by schirri1 on 4/3/2016 & rated 91 points: Not the best showing this vintage. Much better the next day - which could mean I didn't take the proper measures for decanting. (2069 views)
Tasted by mntebolt on 3/19/2016: Opened up very good! (1986 views)
Tasted by KAP on 2/28/2016 & rated 90 points: Inky in color. Smoother the second day. (1935 views)
Tasted by dynedain on 11/28/2015 & rated 81 points: Not as good as typical. A bit thin and tart while very dry. (2145 views)
Tasted by KAP on 11/21/2015 & rated 89 points: A bit harsh. (1697 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

Napanook Red

The Napanook Red Wine was first created in 1996. It is a 'second wine' to the main Dominus Estate wine. Confusingly, some mid-90's vintages of the Dominus Estate (1991 through 1996 we believe) were labeled as Napanook Vineyard, so people often try to create older vintages of this wine. None should exist before 1996.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
