Might be in an awkward phase or still too young, but I'm not getting fruit underneath could come through when the tannins subside. Very fruit forward on the palate and almost came off as a little too sappy for my taste. I did get a sense of good things underneath once everything (hopefully) balances out. Revisit in 2-3 years. Depth and intensity to th licorice, darker cherry, chocolate flavors that have red fruits swirling in the background. Wonderful freshness and energy with chewy, firm but round tannins to balance things out. Wish more California Bordeaux blends were build like this...I'm a fan. Bouquet evolves in the glass with aromas of blackcurrant, tea leaves, slate, white pepper, and lavender. Dense layers of flavors that change from sip to sip- black fruits, tar, graphite, floral, cedar- moving toward bitter cocoa and espresso notes as it moves toward the finish. Weight, feel, balance is all there. Finishes with creamy tannins that are very firm. Finishing notes of pure black fruit and mineral notes. 30+ seconds. Very youthful- needs a long decant. Excellent.
