Tasted by jkazzoun on 1/31/2024 & rated 89 points: Pretty solid. Solid enough I bought two cases of the 2016 from the Underground Cellars liquidation.

I don’t drink much Cabernet, but this has been a good everyday drinker. Oh, and, this should develop for at least another 2-3 years. (383 views)
Tasted by EFrohmader on 11/17/2023 & rated 91 points: Decanted and immediately began to consume over the next ~1 hour. Blackberry, plum, blueberry, toasted oak, lavender, granite. Medium-plus body, tannins, and acidity. Good now and the last glass was best. Wouldn’t be surprised to see this improve. Went well with spaghetti with meat sauce. (507 views)
Tasted by Rbhan12 on 9/23/2023 & rated 91 points: Off the list at a restaurant, decanted ahead of time and followed over the course of a few hours.

The baby fat shed after some time, showing a nice complex and still young wine. Plenty of fruit, good underlying earthy notes, supple oak integration. Should drink beautifully for another 10 years easy.

Went very well with burgers and steak. (700 views)
Tasted by Mss0904 on 9/10/2023 & rated 92 points: BlackBerry fruit on the nose. Medium bodied with dark berries on the palate , dry and slightly acidic (617 views)
Tasted by EFrohmader on 7/27/2023 & rated 91 points: Brief note - Nice dark fruits with some tobacco, oak, and floral notes. Went well with spaghetti with meat sauce. Velvety tannins. Ready now and should drink well for several more years. (657 views)
Tasted by yofog on 3/15/2023: Substantial tannins here, but noble and not getting too much in the way of the wine. They make a line right through from start to finish and the wine shows serious cellar potential. Loads of dark fruits here, the cab franc element very present, the wine reads like St Emilion. Everything in its place - good year for this wine. (995 views)
Tasted by ElJefeTX on 3/9/2023 & rated 88 points: 41% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 9% Malbec, and 6% Petit Verdot. Black fruit dominate with less blue fruit than the 2017 CVC. Closed upon open and ideally needs a few more years for tannins to integrate. Drink 2025-2030. (753 views)
Tasted by EFrohmader on 11/19/2022 & rated 91 points: Brief note. Dark fruits. Well structured but ready to drink. Might still improve. Went well with steak. (884 views)
Tasted by Rbhan12 on 9/20/2022 & rated 92 points: Needs a few hours to open up. Similar to prior note.

Day 2: left 1.5 glasses in the bottle overnight. The palate has opened up immensely. Such a beautiful wine with big structure, beautiful purple and blue fruit, plenty of minerality and tannic backbone. Bumping to a 92.

Decant this for 3h or hold for a few years. Stunner. (1248 views)
Tasted by Rbhan12 on 6/29/2022 & rated 91 points: Decanted for 3 hours, back into bottle.

Deep red fruit, red licorice, very subtle oak influence on the nose. Palate is elegant and medium body, but still properly ripe. Has some crunchy red cherries, ripe tannins, and actually quite similar to Bordeaux in the profile and character of the palate. Little bit darker in fruit character but has that tone and acidity that reminds me of the Right Bank. Finish shows lovely red fruit that is characteristic of Merlot but also with a rocky mineral acidity that is reminiscent of Bordeaux. Some chalky tannins dry the palate and extend the finish.

Really good wine that will age for quite awhile. Expect it to pick up some complexity as time goes on. 41% Merlot, 24% Cab, 20% Franc, 9% Malbec, 6% Petit Verdot. This is a BDX blend and in my opinion meets the perfect match between California and Bordeaux. Has the acid, body, and structure of a proper Right Bank, but has the fruit ripeness of a California wine. Really an excellent effort.

Drink now or hold for a few years, but expect it so last 10+ in the cellar. (1264 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
