Tasted by jgh123 on 12/28/2023 & rated 91 points: Had one bottle for Christmas dinner and another tonight: Ripe fruit (cherries); leather; medium richness. This may last a little longer but no reason to wait. (150 views)
Tasted by jgh123 on 3/6/2022 & rated 90 points: First bottle I've had of this in several years. Quite nice; fresh fruit and a little leather on the nose. It's a simple wine but beautifully balanced with a nice finish. Probably best to drink over the next 5 years. (1063 views)
Tasted by aChave on 6/10/2021 & rated 90 points: Maybe my vote for best red in its price range anywhere. This wine always delivers. Deep fruit but also finesse and balance. Immediately delicious but adds nuance with air. Even more integrated two days later. (1419 views)
Tasted by bobadopolis on 9/5/2019 & rated 91 points: Good on opening, much better after 3 hours in the decanter. Funky barnyard alcohol heavy nose, which seems incongruent with the taste, which of that of an earthy, young-mature Rhone ... earth, dirt, and bright fruit meld together in an exceptionally pleasant way. Better than I expected, particularly after a few hours of air. Excellent QPR (2051 views)
Tasted by Brolawa on 3/30/2019: Can’t really rate this. A friend served this for dinner and I was really impressed. Delicious for a simple Grenache wine. I decided to buy some other bottles/vintages of this wine but haven’t been able to replicate the experience. Outlier bottle? (1389 views)
Tasted by bajayngo on 6/9/2018: So classically Rhône with layers of garrigue, wild berry fruits, pepper, fennel and very well balanced. (2961 views)
Tasted by MLipton on 5/12/2018: The fruit is now quite mature and beginning to fade a bit. Still lovely in a S Rhone vein with plums and herbs in a relatively clean package. Plenty of acidity to keep it fresh. Drink up now. (2370 views)
Tasted by lambomiura on 3/27/2018 & rated 89 points: Cerise, poivre , violette , écurie, cuir. Nez puissant . Long en bouche . Tannins souple, finale persistante. Excellent. (2296 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 12/9/2017 & rated 89 points: Ok, a few years of age, and this wine is about the same as it was before. It is quite large and funky. The fruit is starting to taste tired. It is still enjoyable. I don't see this improving. This wine does not appear to be meant to age. (2613 views)
Tasted by Henman on 11/4/2017 & rated 91 points: Good nose with funky notes and ripe dark fruit. Medium(+) bodied, supple with smooth and firm tannins, elegant dark fruit with a pleasant meaty/umami aspect and a bit of licorice. This wine is really singing now. Darned delicious! (2180 views)
Tasted by Beerzebub on 7/15/2017: P&p; quite expressive right out of the bottle. Fresh, tangy dark-reddish fruit, with a controlled mignonette/VA aspect which works well, black pepper, light dried herbs, and underlying savory/meaty elements. Similar on the palate, ripe/juicy but not overly so, good acidity, soft tannins. Dried herbs develop towards a dry, slightly bitter finish. Characterful, tasty, enjoyable; probably best consumed now. (2174 views)
Tasted by MLipton on 11/17/2016: Just what you'd expect from this producer. Warm, Southern fruit (in a dark-complected package) but with a firm spine of acidity and lack of goopiness to keep it lively on the palate. In many ways, it reminds me of Tablas Creek's Esprit de Beaucastel and Steve Edmunds's Rocks and Gravel. (2742 views)
Tasted by rmalloy on 10/24/2016 & rated 91 points: Tasted blind. This is a fun wine. Obviously in the “GSM” family of wines. Crushed blueberries and tangy cherry candy with animal undertones and pan-roasted Christmas spices. Tannins are rather soft. Almost cola-like exuberance. Rating: 91.

Guess the wine. I believe there is a high mourvèdre content in this wine due to the gaminess. I believe there is a bottle of 2012 Pibarnon in the sample set. I would expect that wine to be more tannic and less evolved. Nonetheless, it’s a strong possibility. Another obvious possibility is côtes du rhone.

Non-blind p.s.: I got this one somewhat wrong. It appears that the wine is about 50% syrah, 50% grenache (no mourvèdre). I guess the gaminess that I detected comes from syrah. (2802 views)
Tasted by rmalloy on 9/25/2016 & rated 91 points: Very interesting. Ripe but lots of complexity here. Plush mouthfeel. Fairly big, but not huge. Ripe black and blue fruit, game, menthol, ink, licorice, tobacco, and herbs. Lots of new oak. A little smoky. Medium tannins. A good value at under $20. (2830 views)
Tasted by snarfglk on 8/18/2016 & rated 89 points: 89 when consumed in one day. deep dark fruit which is quite nice. goes downhill quickly overnight. (2663 views)
Tasted by Chateau du Fey 1994 on 8/10/2016: Enjoyed this bottle more than the last couple. Maybe bottle variance or it is entering a sweet spot? (2413 views)
Tasted by snarfglk on 7/11/2016 & rated 89 points: Very enjoyable the first day but seemed to tail off day 2. (1966 views)
Tasted by snarfglk on 6/17/2016 & rated 89 points: Opposite of last bottle. A bit hot and astringent day 1 but came together day 2. (1895 views)
Tasted by Wcondon on 6/7/2016 & rated 91 points: Have consumed 8 bottles of this vintage over past 2 years. One of the best case purchases I have ever made based on value and flavor. Chave came highly recommended from Gordon's wine experts.
Soft tannins, light on the oak, strong fruit taste and aroma, medium acidity. Very balanced.
I don't always drink wine alone, but when I do this is the one to drink. If it must be scored I'll give it a 91 although sometimes it is perfect. (2051 views)
Tasted by benjaminpaul on 6/4/2016 & rated 87 points: Improved on the previous bottle - must've just been that one. Delicious, smooth and enjoyable. Barnyard, red cherry, berries. Very nice.

Drinking now, I don't believe there's much left to show in these. (1800 views)
Tasted by snarfglk on 4/26/2016 & rated 90 points: Great day 1, deserving of a 90 score. Fell off a bit day 2. (1950 views)
Tasted by benjaminpaul on 3/19/2016 & rated 86 points: Nothing special. Quite a bit of barnyard on the nose mixed in with ripe cherry and plum. Palate was initially quite smooth and enjoyable, but became harsher, grippier over the evening. Had a balsamic and dirty aftertaste. Still, not all bad - just a bit disappointing.

Probably need to drink over the next year, no point hanging on to this for too long. (1922 views)
Tasted by bretrooks on 2/7/2016: Poured out early but not decanted, consumed over ~2 hours. This bottle was slightly marked by VA...still quite drinkable, but showing less depth and savory nuance than the previous two. Wouldn't stop me from purchasing more, if that says anything. (2084 views)
Tasted by Jozefs on 2/3/2016 & rated 90 points: At peak, with great fruit, but lots of barnyard (brett) on the nose, which may put off some people. (2131 views)
Tasted by bags on 11/20/2015: this is still nice and an excellent value, with a Sirah gamey presence, but not as complex as I remember from the last bottle, about 6 months ago. I'm sure it has a couple more years left, but I was a bit disappointed, and will drink up and/or cook with it. (2423 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
