Tasted by quaffnov on 3/28/2016 & rated 92 points: See note from last October, this bottle is still going strong and is very enjoyable, I have a 2013 in my cellar now, hopefully it matches this 2012 vintage. (1712 views)
Tasted by quaffnov on 10/30/2015 & rated 92 points: Hour decant, a very interesting nose of dark raspberry and nutmeg, this had some other interesting element that I could not quite identify, almost stone and mineral like. The palate has medium tannins and bright acidity with a very pleasant peppery note. This is a full bodied wine with a long finish and some intriguing secondary notes that add complexity, a very entertaining wine that adds up to a great QPR. Best American barbera I have had hands down. (1840 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 6/13/2015 & rated 86 points: Medium dark cherry red color; berry cruller, sour cream nose; berry cruller, sour cream, tart berry palate; medium finish (13.5% alcohol) (368 views)
Tasted by VeniceCalif on 6/11/2015 & rated 86 points: Decanted 90 mins. ahead. Very deep garnet color. Nice nose of black cherries, hard spices, earth, and must. Medium-full on the palate, as tarry notes intrude on the black cherry flavors. Not firm on the palate, rather toward softness as extraction throws a hood over the varietal character. Finishes fast with low grip and very low tannins. Simple, dark, extracted, and--last but not least--drinkable. (1471 views)
Tasted by partylikeakennedy on 1/16/2015 & rated 88 points: Not bad. Nice oak, nice balance, soft tannins and overall a good, can't-go-wrong wine. My only problem is that I had Far Niente first. You can't follow that shit up. -__- (1608 views)

Barbera

Varietal character (Appellation America)
Varietal character (Wikipedia German)
Varietal character (Wikipedia English)
Barbera is a red wine variety, originally from Italy, which is best known as the second-most important Piedmontese variety after Nebbiolo. The wines made of this grape are mainly the everyday drinking wines of the region. The main appellations producing Barbera are Asti and Alba.

Barbera - The most widely grown red wine grape of Piedmont and Southern Lombardy, most famously around the towns of Asti and Alba, and Pavia. The wines of Barbera were once simply "what you drank while waiting for the Barolo to be ready." With a new generation of wine makers, this is no longer the case. The wines are now meticulously vinified, aged Barbera gets the name "Barbera Superiore" (Superior Barbera), sometimes aged in French barrique becoming "Barbera Barricato", and intended for the international market. The wine has bright cherry fruit, a very dark color, and a food-friendly acidity.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
