Community Tasting Notes (average 89.9 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 32 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by VlgJeff on 5/19/2018 & rated 87 points: PnP, and did not improve during the meal. This wine was all about minerality and acidity. The nose was heavily mineral. The medium bodied palate showed lemon and a bit of green apple, but these were matched (if not exceeded) by the acidity and minerality. Compared to TNs from the latter half of 2015, the wine was less fruity, and less satisfying which may indicate that 4+ years after vintage is too late to enjoy this wine. (1291 views)
Tasted by tward on 5/27/2017 & rated 92 points: I'm writing this a couple days after consumption and it is a real shame there aren't notes. This was outstanding. Limestone, Granny Smith apple, lime zest, lemon curd, and maybe almond and almond blossom? Seemless transition from the nose to the taste to the medium-length finish. Acidity perfect. This was best shortly atfter PnP and for a couple hours the first night. Half a bottle left in the refrigerator capped, not suctioned remained very good the second night, but had lost some luster. Wish I'd bought more. (1717 views)
Tasted by Birorganic on 7/31/2016 & rated 90 points: Ready now. Easy drinker. Relaxed wine, not complex but well made, balanced. Didn't get in the way of the food. (2180 views)
Tasted by Birorganic on 7/17/2016 & rated 90 points: Well made, balanced. Ready now. (2163 views)
Tasted by pocchia on 1/20/2016 & rated 90 points: PNP from wine fridge - in the glass the color is clear and elegant. A full & rich nose beckons, and as it hits the palate it blossoms into a full, rich bouquet with soft structure then ever so slightly narrows with a hint of lemon at the back. Stems up! (2978 views)
Tasted by vin0vin0 on 11/10/2015 & rated 90 points: Just a fantastic grenache blanc from Tablas. Beautiful light yellow in color with white grapefruit pith on the nose. There's a lot going on with the flavors here. Creamy meyer lemon, white grapefruit, a bit of green apple, nice minerality, crisp acidity, a hint of Christmas spice and a fairly long finish.  Tasted by worbx on 8/23/2015: Comes out of the bottle with the color of light straw. The aroma is initially light, but gains a little depth as it opens up. There's a light sour note, some bright crisp fruit, and a hint of sharpness. The flavor is much richer, with bigger fruit, some sweet notes, a good, bright, sweet finish, and just a hint of sharpness on the tongue.

I like it with bratwust. Tasted at about 70°F. (1680 views)
Tasted by wilypod on 8/15/2015 & rated 90 points: Wow, truly enjoyable. How is it that it took the whole modern era of wine in California, the last 50 years or so, to recognize the virtues of Grenache Blanc? To the Perrin and Haas venture at Tablas Creek we all owe a lot. Thank God for their curiosity and risk taking in introducing varieties unknown.

Lime, lime marmalade, Rose's lime, and minerality and riper tree fruits. GB generally has great structure and in this case length on the palate. My favorite white Rhone variety. Two Shepherds also makes a superb GB.

This is such a different wine from California Chardonnay. The two varieties meet and merge at the intersection of Chablis, where Chardonnay takes on Rhone minerality, and of Western Paso Robles where the lush fruit of GB expresses tart flavors without being in any sense unripe. (1238 views)
Tasted by bbcc66 on 8/1/2015 & rated 89 points: Nice fruity nose. Tastes of minerals, apple, citrus. Great summer drink. (1126 views)
Tasted by jonahfactor on 7/31/2015: Struts its Rhone breeding. Color of sun-bleached hay with a lush dripping necklace. Lemon pith, minerals and fermenting grapes in the nose -- smells just like the TCV tasting room near Paso Robles. Lemons and grapefruit with notions of roasted almonds on the palate. Light and lively and laden with minerals in the finish. From a seriously under-appreciated varietal. Everyone would be planting this grape if they knew how to make a wine like this. Let's call it what it is: lip-smacking. Perfect for summer. (1369 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 7/29/2015 & rated 91 points: WIML91

Tasted non blind.

Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of sprite, orange and cherry wasser. Flavors of peach, tangerine and kumquat. Medium acidity, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold. (1247 views)
Tasted by Bob in NC on 7/24/2015 & rated 90 points: A wonderful summer wine. Has a nice weight to it, medium acidity and a pleasant tart finish. Has a nice sweet and tart fruit thing going on with flavors of lemon, apple, peach, pine nut and grapefruit. (841 views)
Tasted by Ric2491 on 7/12/2015: Very Nice (995 views)
Tasted by TuanQLe on 5/2/2015: Gift to thu (1137 views)
Tasted by cdebeau on 4/25/2015 & rated 90 points: Good acidity, light but very flavorable. (966 views)
Tasted by jonahfactor on 4/11/2015: Tablas Creek Tasting (At the Vineyard): Pale gold with substantial legs. Great viscosity and a zesty finish. Fresh, enchanting bouquet of rocky limestone, grapefruit and figgy qualities. Great acidity. A picnic wine with a pedigree. (1264 views)
Tasted by DawgByte on 4/4/2015 & rated 90 points: A wonderful wine from an underrated California producer. I've been a wine club member of Tablas Creek for several years and they're all about understated elegance and finesse in an Old World style. They're very consistent year-over-year and fantastic people - family oriented!

This wine is pale yellow with a nose that includes; Granny Smith apples, lemon curd, grapefruit and a hint of vanilla on the backend. The palate shows similar characteristics with racy acidity. It paired beautifully with a Scallop salad. I recommend this wine without reservation. (1165 views)
Tasted by BVal on 3/25/2015 & rated 88 points: Color: pale straw yellow. Bouquet of green apples, grapefruit, lemon. Light palate showing off the citrus and especially the grapefruit element. Finish is short to moderately long with a racy, acidic edge. (1221 views)
Tasted by Deux Chevaux on 3/24/2015: Very nice over three nights. Well balanced. Light golden, hints of aged hay. (1166 views)

Tablas Creek

Producer website
Tablas Creek Vineyard, founded by the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas of Vineyard Brands, is dedicated to growing grape varieties traditional to France's Rhone Valley. The partners chose hilly western Paso Robles for its limestone soils, rugged terrain, and ocean influence. All Tablas Creek wines are estate grown using environmentally sustainable practices.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
