Tasted by Sean Tay on 2/24/2024 & rated 95 points: Pronounced nose intensity with notes of toast, spices, mushroom. Medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin. (977 views)
Tasted by dnnk88 on 12/28/2023 & rated 98 points: 2nd bottle this year - amazing again. (1583 views)
Tasted by dnnk88 on 10/18/2023 & rated 97 points: Cherry, raspberry, tobacco notes. Opened up nicely after around 1.5hrs. Silky tannins, soft and enticing finish. Enjoyed this thoroughly. My WOTN! (1429 views)
Tasted by wineswithmuscles on 8/1/2023: Thriving, pushing, saying hello within austerity and a tarry, rich, living, ongoing drinking flow. Truly a 2012 standout with tons of classic Barolo allure. (1837 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 7/31/2023: A good wine, just let down by its cork a little as there was some coffee-like oxidation. Ripe cherry fruits, plush and silky. Plenty of plant matter and earth and a touch of spice. Full, with moderate structure and a long and expansive finish. (1700 views)
Tasted by AWBryce on 4/15/2023: Bit darker and more quiet than the 11, tea leaves, black cherry, maybe a bit muted but still enjoyable. Palate is still firm, fruits are quiet and not too ripe, med plus finish. Lipton brisk iced tea (1696 views)
Tasted by sooper65 on 2/24/2023 & rated 100 points: If i drink another bottle of Barolo that has such precision, beauty, poise, balance along with the essential red fruits, subtle savoury character.. just beautiful (1790 views)
Tasted by Thomas123 on 1/21/2023 & rated 99 points: My best wine experience of 2023 so far. Started out light and mellow, but it quickly gained weight in the glass. Plenty of fruit, light red cherries, strawberries, but also fresh leather forest floor underneath. Extremely elegant while also broad and mouthfilling. Gentle tannins with just the right grip. Confirmed my experience that - for me - Rinaldis barolo a should not be cellared for too long. I can’t see this one get any better - it is scratching perfection (1882 views)
Tasted by jackpe on 12/31/2022 & rated 98 points: Ready to drink now ! Wonderful Barolo ! Special tasts of Mint and Eukalyptus ! Wow ! (1662 views)
Tasted by wineswithmuscles on 12/1/2022: I chose the 2012 Brunate to have an example of a typical, classic and rather austere Rinaldi Barolo, without being forbiddingly closed or severe. The 2012 did a fantastic job, displaying vigor, depth, class and inner beauty. It leaves a young and steady impression, within a noble, solid tannic core and multiple layers that usher in a dimension that makes Nebbiolo so compelling. On the palate I found an ever-changing, wavy bouquet with tart berries, dark plum, blue flowers, balsam, sage, stony minerals as well expanding notes of chestnut and sandalwood. A totally classic Barolo that gives the - often underrated - 2012 vintage a sort of majestic touch. Can’t wait to experience the further evolution here. (1909 views)
Tasted by _water.into.wine_ on 11/28/2022 & rated 95 points: Served blind. Very light and translucent. Bright ruby. Lots of flowers and perfume. Red fruits. I called burgundy. Thinking a big grand cru. Alas. It’s Rinaldi! The most elegant Italian I have ever tried. With YH at Cilantro. (1696 views)
Tasted by Mario17 on 10/29/2022 & rated 94 points: Un autre canon, rose, tabac, épices, une bouche suave avec une pointe asséchante en finale qui me fait dire Barolo, mais quel grand Barolo. 94-95

Fantastic Barolo, gorgeous and typical in style, awesome. (1725 views)
Tasted by Hanibal on 10/28/2022 & rated 94 points: So smooth, very aromatic, the wine shines more on the nose than anything. Tannins are smooth, long finale. But the nose is intoxicating. (1970 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 10/21/2022 & rated 96 points: During a Barolo/Piedmont tasting lunch, not blind. In the top 3, if not the best wine. Excellent from start to finish. Complex and deep nose of leather and tobacco, elegant palate, well managed tannins. (1971 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 10/15/2022 & rated 96 points: One of the stars of this line-up. So beautifully pure, but also deep, layered and complex, with notes of leather, smoke, tobacco leaf, dark and red berries, some violets, tar and smoke. Medium-full bodied, slightly austere, with medium-high acidity and medium-high tannin that is excellent quality. Superb wine that is a great representation of the winery. Drinking like silk and as usual the first bottle that was empty. (1923 views)
Tasted by ubercuvee on 7/4/2022: Much better than a bottle last autumn - this bottle was amongst the best of the '12 vintage (1805 views)
Tasted by Rani on 5/11/2022 & rated 90 points: Nail varnish and red plums, rose petals. Tannins are still quite harsh here, and while the fruit is present it still feels unbalanced. I’m wondering if the tannins will soften while the fruit is still there. (1896 views)
Tasted by heegaard on 12/25/2021 & rated 95 points: Fantastic wine. All you want from a wine. (2273 views)
(2753 views)
Tasted by ubercuvee on 10/7/2021 & rated 95 points: How much 2012 Barolo is too much 2012 Barolo (Noize): Very strong showing, but missing a bit of the perfume that I associate with the best bottlings of this (although this is more and more coming to the fore as Marta and Carlotta make the wine (2926 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 6/25/2021: Rinaldi Tasting + X (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): *** no detailed note, just to remember the wine – other users please ignore ***
Better than the Tre Tine 2012 IMHO. Really beautiful, still way too young. 93-94++ (3078 views)
Tasted by Robmcl920 on 6/20/2021 & rated 94 points: The ‘12 Brunate is a gorgeous wine that is starting to drink well today, but should also reward another decade or so in the cellar. I found a classic G. Rinaldi Brunate expression but with less weight and intensity, and a bit lighter of a fruit profile, than the best vintages.

On the nose, I found smoky light red cherry and strawberry fruit, purple violet tones, leather, and tobacco. On the palate, I found sweet raspberry and red plum fruit and inner purple floral tones in a mid weight package with very silky tannins that are beginning to integrate, making the wine quite drinkable today. On the finish, I found pronounced leather and sweet blue to purple hard candy notes lingering and providing a burst of sweetness. (2968 views)
Tasted by SARED on 4/12/2021 & rated 93 points: 6 hour decant. Medium-bodied with dark red ripe cherry extract and cherry pits. Big wave of drying, gentle tannin that ask for food. Balanced acidity with pretty, airy fruit although the tannic grip is still too austere as a counterbalance. Not nearly as concentrated or plush as remembered the bottle I had back in 2020, which had the "big" and "drenched in soil" notes of the 2/23/11 DrWine01 notes... this was much more the 9/27/20 ACYSO's "beauty to the light fruit" (although I think the fruit put on weight with air). I saved a couple Boston Rounds to revaluate in a couple days and learn more... very enjoyable now with hopefully some upside from here, 93/93+. (2460 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 2/23/2021: Opened in the morning for dinnertime drinking. Light ruby core. Combination of tobacco and ripe black cherry on the nose with dizzying fragrance developing as it sat out in the glass. A big Nebbiolo, meaning medium+ body that happens to be drenched in soil. On the tobacco and tar side-it reminded me of my impression of the 2012 Conterno Francia, which had a similar profile. The fruit is plentiful but tucked away behind all of these savory things and a menthol note. Excellent acidity, a twist of orange peel, and moderate but manageable tannins. I loved this wine tonight despite it not being likely to enter the Pantheon of lacy, delicate Barolos. That said, it is already wonderfully complex and should unfold deliciously over the next 2 decades or more. For what it's worth, the Tre Tine from this vintage was much less forthcoming during my one encounter with it, but that was almost 3 years ago. (3309 views)

GIUSEPPE RINALDI

A family-run production company, it exclusively produces grapes produced from its own vineyards. At the beginning of the 19th century, Battista Rinaldi was a cultivator of some vineyards of the Feudo of the Marquises Falletti di Barolo. Later he became a farmer owner and, initially, a seller of the grapes produced. Later, with his sons, he became a winemaker and bottler. The same company tradition, of character and craft dimensions, today continues with Giuseppe Rinaldi and the fifth and sixth generation daughters. The company produces Barolo for about 60% (Brunate vineyards, Le Coste, Cannubi-San Lorenzo, Ravera) and for the rest, Piedmontese wines such as Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Nebbiolo and Freisa delle Langhe, Ruchè.

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Brunate

Located on the southern border of the La Morra, though part of the vineyard is located in the neighboring commune of Barolo. Among the top vineyards on Piedmonte. As in Burgundy the best vineyards are all sub-divided in to small plots and with fragmented ownership. Consists of Tortonian soil. Typically produces more open, velvety, and plush wines. They are feminine, yet possess considerable structure and concentration.

Barolo

Regional History:
The wines of Piedmont are noted as far back as Pliny's Natural History. Due to geographic and political isolation, Piedmont was without a natural port for most of its history, which made exportation treacherous and expensive. This left the Piedmontese with little incentive to expand production. Sixteenth-century records show a mere 14% of the Bassa Langa under vine -- most of that low-lying and farmed polyculturally. In the nineteenth century the Marchesa Falletti, a frenchwoman by birth, brought eonologist Louis Oudart from Champagne to create the first dry wines in Piemonte. Along with work in experimental vineyards at Castello Grinzane conducted by Camilo Cavour -- later Conte di Cavour, leader of the Risorgimento and first Prime Minister of Italy -- this was the birth of modern wine in the Piedmont. At the heart of the region and her reputation are Alba and the Langhe Hills. This series of weathered outcroppings south of the Tanaro River is of maritime origin and composed mainly of limestone, sand and clay, known as terra bianca. In these soils -located mainly around the towns of Barolo and Barbaresco -- the ancient allobrogica, now Nebbiolo, achieves its renowned fineness and power.
