Tasted by benjamin96 on 3/9/2024 & rated 93 points: Beaucoup de champignon au debut, couleur tres pale. une fois aere, du fruit, des fleurs blanches. On aurait jamais cru un 1996. Excellent (864 views)
Tasted by PanosKakaviatos on 1/28/2024 & rated 100 points: Champagne and Burgundy evening (Private home in Arlington, Virginia): I have had this wine for several years now, having acquired a case of 12 bottles in a black wooden box shortly after its release, and by Golly, this was rather perfect. Notes from memory, but you have such youth for a wine that seems to resist aging. The color was light straw, and from the get-go, it seems very young. The aromatics of cool citrus, lime and lemon, subtle apple and still youthful brioche without any hazelnut or nutty oxidations aspects proved promising, and the promise is fulfilled on the palate, which reflected sheer balance: between subtle and noble opulence to textural finesse, to liveliness and energy to a caressing and very long finish. Among seven people, this bottle was rather quickly gone. It was the best bottle from my stash so far, and if you have any of this wine, there is no need to rush, especially if stored properly. We continued with the lobster... (1279 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 1/28/2024 & rated 96 points: Looking young with lemon/lime, brioche, and white stone.

ripe and yet great length and cut in the mouth.

Outstanding! (1056 views)
Tasted by Jonathanmustang on 12/15/2023 & rated 93 points: Champignon au début, très beau par la suite (1367 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 11/18/2023 & rated 93 points: Either really shy or weird, good weight but not complex like other vintages. 92-93 (1510 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 11/11/2023 & rated 96 points: blind
I nailed it. The nose was amazing, some sea breeze and yeast, less toasted toast. In this condition I would go still with the regular disgorged bottle. That wine is more multi-dimensional. A bit too sweet in the aftertaste. 95-96 (1455 views)
Tasted by Eric on 10/19/2023: M&PD Tasting: Argentinian Grill (Mount Baker, Seattle, WA): Wowza, smoldering intensity, staggering complexity. I have had this wine a few times in the past 3 years, and this bottle was easily the most open and complex of the three. (1518 views)
Tasted by Brolawa on 10/19/2023: MP&D at Goldbergs. EVH. Smoke, fat, mineral, fruit. (1064 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 9/17/2023 & rated 95 points: Wow, at a perfect peak. Complexity of some earth tones has emerged to complement the still very forward and fresh fruit with classic Dom smoke and toast tones. So concentrated yet pin-point acidity and freshness. (1310 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 9/17/2023 & rated 94 points: Pausing for the Cause Fundraiser and Dinner (Obelix - Chicago IL): Wonderfully rich from start-to-finish with still plenty of freshness to supplement the wine's maturity. Complex with great depth. (1743 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 9/17/2023 & rated 96 points: Just in a great spot (994 views)
Tasted by Raitis on 8/23/2023 & rated 95 points: Surprisingly fresh and plenty life ahead. (1056 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 8/4/2023: The best bottle of this wine I think I’ve ever had. This was great! So fresh and bright and delicious but also with the first characteristics of good age. Drinking nicely. I saved some to pair with dessert and it was just awesome. Depth of flavor but with the nice brightness. (1427 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 7/22/2023 & rated 96 points: Killer again ! (1196 views)
Tasted by Eric on 7/21/2023: Dinner at Copine with Steve and Jason (Ballard, WA): Tightly wound and fabulously complex. White chocolate, sea air, hints of brioche. The palate is pure silk, racy, insanely young. (1464 views)
Tasted by DAN BAILEY on 6/22/2023: Part of a great flight with the 98 and 02 P2s. Grated ginger and melba toast. Smooth, deep, persistent palate. Missing the usual cold rolled steel/reduction of previous bottles though did appear with some air. (1423 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 5/21/2023 & rated 96 points: Tasted blind, this wine had a stunning nose of brioche, chalk, marzipan, and lemon.

In the mouth, it was rather light at first and took a good hour of air to gain the power to match the nose. This is a great Champagne that is still drinking extremely well. (1451 views)
Tasted by ricknat1 on 3/25/2023 & rated 98 points: this is about as good as champagne gets. Totally fresh and delightful. its amazing its 27 years old and completely delicious. just transferred in from Horseridge.

drank this before dinner with smoked salmon and hmmus (1656 views)
Tasted by ricknat1 on 3/23/2023 & rated 97 points: Wine of the flight, bright young and elegant (1534 views)
Tasted by TWSA on 2/4/2023 & rated 94 points: Nose: sugar cane, peach, white flower, raisin, honey, maltose, hints of red date
Notes: Opened for 1 hour in the bottle before drinking. Disgorged in 2013. Very sweet and seductive nose with an excellent and silky palate. This is an amazing champagne in every aspect and I'm deeply impressed. Bubbles are more or less gone so it can be treated as a still white wine, this part I would say is pretty similar to the Dom Perignon 1996 but obviously the intensity and the complexity is very much different. Beautifully balanced and everything is at the right spot. I do feel that this won't get better with more aging and should drink well for the next 10 years.

Tasted by oxwombat on 1/18/2023 & rated 97 points: Rogue night at Mato in Hong Kong. P&P with friends.

WOTN in a strong line up. This was absolutely outstanding. Incredible freshness and zestiness, with sublime bubbles that gave way to a creaminess on the palate rather than a sharpness. Nutty, brioche notes coming through but balanced with citrus and a clear acidic backbone running throughout the wine.

Perhaps even better than the last time I had this a few years ago. Definitely has a long life ahead of it - just a shame there are so few of these left lying around. Enjoy if you have them! (1725 views)
Tasted by sdr on 1/7/2023 & rated 95 points: Latour, Latour, Latour (WineWatch, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida): It’s a distinct step up from the very good original release. Richer, rounder, oily, yellow fruity, less acidic. Really delicious but I wonder if it will last as long. At its glorious peak now. (1876 views)
Tasted by sbjm on 1/6/2023 & rated 94 points: Aroma: yeast, buttery, lemon, some hints of spice
Color: Fairly pale
Taste: Assertive up front with a large bite; lively but shorter finish. J notes complex but I find it a bit thin. J finds comparable to Pol Roger but I find it more lacking than SWC. Borders on bitter for me feels disappointing for a 96. Does mellow out over time in the glass.

Tasted by burg_gram_Jason on 12/21/2022 & rated 93 points: One note aromatics, creamy silken mouthfeel, a good length and complexity in the finish. I find a well-stored original release DP ‘96 to be leaps more enjoyable in the bouquet and more engaging in the palate, if a coarser in the finish. On balance, I will choose the aromatics over an aristocratic finish but perhaps 96 oeno just needs more time. the fine bubbles were very energetic like a young DP along with a decent structure so if rest the remaining for another decade. France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
