Blood orange, (704 views) | | Tasted by TexasBob on 4/11/2022 & rated 88 points: Deep garnet color. Blood orange, a hint of vanilla, red fruit on the nose. Tannic citrus and raspberry notes. It has held up well. (749 views) | | Tasted by bayareadodgerfan on 3/15/2022: Twenty seven years. Where did the time go - i remember getting this wine at the winery. It’s definitely well past it’s prime - but you can pick up echoes of what it was. Still some red fruit, black cherry and wood notes along with lots of oxidative aromas of olive abd forest floor. But alas the structure is gone and the fruit is well faded. The mouthfeel is silky smooth, but this is well past it’s time. (697 views) | | Tasted by prof b on 6/8/2018: A very nice aged Napa cabernet. Herbs and hints of mint with dark fruits and a solid finish. (2488 views) | | Tasted by pepmi on 8/21/2016 & rated 90 points: An enjoyable wine especially given its 20 years of age. This is the kind of wine you want to open, enjoy with friends and food and not spend too much time dwelling on it. Sufficient fruit, density, fullness in the mouth and length to make you stop and say, nice wine... now, what were we talking about? I could invent other things to say about its berries, redolent of the vineyard proximity to Route 29, but come on, who really cares....shut up and drink up! (3415 views) | | Tasted by sirswami on 5/12/2012 & rated 89 points: Hanging on well, still looks and smells like a muscular Heitz Cabernet. I was concerned that I had waited too long on this one but not so. While I think the intensity of the fruit has faded some, it still represents an excellent example of Joe Heitz' big contribution to Napa wine making... (6333 views) | | Tasted by jmull on 11/27/2011 & rated 90 points: In a nice place, with high-toned cranberry fruit and a lot of secondary, cedar aspects. Very nice with Thanksgiving dinner. I'd drink soon fwiw. (6473 views) | | Tasted by t_moderne on 11/15/2011 & rated 90 points: Pop and pour. At first, the wine gave off a slight funk. I thought - "This is over the hill. Why do I keep wines more than 10 years?" Poured a glass and let it sit for a few minutes. What a difference. Wonderful nose of cherries, mint and dried flowers. Rich and elegant. Smooth tannins that cares the mouth, with just the right amount of acidity to ready your mouth for another sip. It shows some signs of fading as the evening goes on; after a few hours, it starts to lose focus and verve but for the first few hours, it is all there. Nice wine. (6497 views) | | Tasted by dstraub on 10/8/2010 & rated 92 points: We had it on our anniversary -- super wine with some backbone left. Its fantastic if you can find any more. (5792 views) | | Tasted by Pugs on 8/28/2010 & rated 93 points: Great napa cab, and drinking so nicely here. I had a sniff of the cork after I pulled it and it was pure perfume -- all lavender and violets. We decanted it for an hour or so and it was gorgeous. Notes of blueberries and vanilla. This has aged really well I think. (5146 views) | | Tasted by no leashes on 2/26/2010 & rated 89 points: Very nice cab, with dark cherry, smoke and a hint of eucalyptus. Nice balance. (2463 views) | | Tasted by Giantphelan on 2/17/2010 & rated 91 points: Good color and aroma. It is smooth, and at it's peak time. Got better as it sat in the decantur . Full bodied. Enjoy now !! (2551 views) | | Tasted by bwillia on 9/20/2009 & rated 92 points: Terrific balance. Sweet spot of evolution right now. Beautiful wine. (2773 views) | | Tasted by EricBe on 10/13/2006 & rated 88 points: Still good, but I think it's starting to fade... (3665 views) |
| Heitz Cellar Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
