Very good compliment to Pork.
Starting to go tawny.

Tasted by talbot61 on 9/19/2022: At Boston Wine & Poker, Needham, Mass, Sept. 18, tasted blind:

This tasted much older than the 2004 Alesia (from the same vineyard) in the pairing. Smokiness, a little remaining acidity, but overwhelmed by very advanced flavor and aroma of wet leaves. (417 views)
Tasted by TahoeRick on 12/16/2017 & rated 95 points: Maybe a little late in drinking but still very very good (1531 views)
Tasted by DesMarteau on 7/12/2016 & rated 94 points: Age has mellowed this a bit as the fruit is more subtle than in years past....complex and integrated ....flowers, tea, spice, tinge of kiwi. Soft acids. (2390 views)
Tasted by ScottS on 6/8/2016: Super ripe and on the decline. You can definitely taste the alcohol once the wine comes up to room temp. (2583 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 2/18/2016 & rated 94 points: WIML94

Tasted non blind.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Lovely, expressive nose of floral elements, cherries and mixed berries. Flavors cherries, berries and a hint of raspberries on the soft, smooth and medium finish. Medium acidity, medium tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink now. My last bottle. Glad I held it this long. (2698 views)
Tasted by nfafoglia on 4/25/2015 & rated 94 points: Beautiful nose of flowers, sweet tea, and red fruit. Sweet red fruit featuring pomagranate and cranberry. Drinking very well. (2853 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 9/18/2014 & rated 92 points: Tasty aged KB, but has lost the energy of the bottles I had at 4 & 6 years post vintage. (2613 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 9/11/2014 & rated 93 points: WIML93

Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of thatch, black berries and black cherries. Rich flavors of black berries, black cherries and plums. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink now. Ready to go. (2116 views)
Tasted by Javachip on 8/9/2014 & rated 93 points: A Double Birth Year Celebration (San Diego): 15.3% alcohol. Not decanted. Clear dark garnet-purple. Opulent bouquet of sweet black cherries, raspberries, red licorice, charcoal, bourbon, sweet oak. Similar on the palate, extracted and full-bodied. A bit rich and hot for my taste, but sure to please fans of this style. Does seem to be holding up effortlessly at this age, with many good years remaining. (2625 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 7/27/2014: RRV and Napa Visit; 7/7/2014-8/30/2014 (Napa and Sonoma): From 3L. Michael calls this as one of his top 2 wines ever. ‘A groovy, cool vintage, sweet without being sugary, ready to drink.’
cherry cola color, fruit first aromas, holy sweet fruit appeal Batman!! Drinking like a dream this afternoon, a great accompany to the cherries on this dessert. Some ABV for sure, but who gives a damn. Michael’s talking about how he was turned on by ’91 William Selyem Alan Vineyard PN. (2999 views)
Tasted by MillerRoad on 3/23/2014: I think this bottle was past its prime. Had a taste of olives. Profile got flatter over an hour or so, until it was undrinkable. I don't think the bottle was flawed, just that the wine was over the hill. (1765 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 2/14/2014 & rated 92 points: Aromas of bright cherries, raspberries, rhubarb, some cola and sweet pickle relish (seriously). Like velvet on the palate, with fine tannins and surprisingly fresh acid. The fruit is rich but elegant, like wild strawberries and black cherries. Notes of root beer, sweet pickle, cola and white pepper add complexity. Rich, but believe it or not, this shows some elegance. Undeniably viscous and rich, but the 15.3% alcohol is kept in check by the intensity of the other elements. Pepper and earth notes on the finish. Most of the Kosta-Browne’s I’ve tasted with 7+ years on them can develop baked fruit and evident alcohol, but this one doesn't show as much. It’s smoothed out wonderfully. Big and beautiful stuff and, most importantly, the wife loved it with the Valentine’s Day dinner. (1384 views)
Tasted by Knicksfan on 3/18/2013 & rated 93 points: Lovely and well integrated. (2276 views)
Tasted by fdub on 2/1/2013 & rated 86 points: This was massively volatile on the nose to start. Overdone pinot that has not aged well. Hard to see this as a Spectator 97! (2202 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 12/23/2012 & rated 93 points: WIML93

Tasted non blind. Opened and decanted one hour before serving.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of birch, rose petals, black berries and black cherries. Flavors of black berries, black cherries and a bit of boysenberry jam. Medium acidity, medium tannins, full bodied. Drink over the next 2 to 5 years and start with a brief decant. (2799 views)
Tasted by Sweet Nancy on 12/21/2012: Color was medium red and wine was clear. It was balanced and paired well with roast duck with black cherry port sauce. Fairly long finish. (2216 views)
Tasted by fisk15 on 12/15/2012 & rated 90 points: Big, but fairly balanced. Nothing subtle about this one. (2218 views)
Tasted by clarktoews on 11/3/2012 & rated 95 points: very consistent with the last bottle. really enjoyed this one. Left enough in the bottle for the next day and it was as good if not a bit more complex. (1691 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 10/15/2012 & rated 95 points: Pw/5 hr decant. Clear, deep dark red/purple color. Very, very intense nose. Certainly the most powerful KB I've had, hard to believe it's all Pinot. Fully integrated/balanced with proper tasting dark/mature fruit, not over extracted, long finish. If you like big, this is it. I've been waiting to pull the cork with great anticpation and was not dissapointed. Nothing off, stunning juice in perfect drinking window. (1869 views)
Tasted by Meerlust on 9/2/2012 & rated 91 points: Ruby red color. This wine has a huge nose of cherry and raspberry with complex floral notes. On the palate, there is impressive depth to the dark cherry and raspberry with smokey notes hiding in the background. There is plenty of acidity to buttress the youthful fruit in this medium-bodied wine, but there is a slight alcoholic burn that shows up in the mid palate. The finish is long and packed with deep fruit. Overall, this bottle was impressive for its youthfulness and deep fruit, but I don't think this is representative of the heights this wine can reach. (1633 views)
Tasted by clarktoews on 8/14/2012 & rated 95 points: wow!!! just a great Pinot. tons of fruit on the nose and very well integrated on the palate. and a very longgggggggg finish (1739 views)
Tasted by DRob on 5/24/2012 flawed bottle: Corked. Big bummer. (1819 views)
Tasted by jimmythesaint on 5/12/2012: Popped and poured at dinner tonight. This bottle drank beautifully and elegantly. This wine has evolved from a big fruit infused cocktail to a mature elegant wine. Don't get me wrong, I like both styles but as I get older I like to walk not run. (1834 views)
Tasted by Sweet Nancy on 5/8/2012: Nice fruit and spice but a bit over the top on the finish needing acidity and balance. (2092 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Kanzler Vineyard

Kanzler Vineyard began in 1996 as the dream of Steve and Lynda Kanzler. The vineyard location is near the edge of the Petaluma Gap land channel known as the Sebastopol Hills, which is a microclimate characterized by morning and evening fog, breezy afternoons and bright, but mild afternoon sun. The cooler temperatures allow for an extended hang time and produce grapes of uncommon intensity and complexity. The Kanzler Vineyard is usually the last Pinot Noir vineyard we harvest. The gently sloping vineyard is a former apple orchard, near the town of Sebastopol. Consisting of clones 115, 667 and Pommard, this vineyard delivers complexity, strength and purity, along with wines exhibiting a sensuous mouth feel. Kosta Browne's first vintage of Kanzler Vineyard was in 2002.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
