Tasted by chicsucre on 2/11/2024: Beautiful medium blood orange color
On the nose, strawberries, sumo citrus, orange blossom and magnolia, hint of honey, along with amazing chalkiness, perhaps a bit nutmeg
Tension upon entering the palate, more on sumo citrus, then strawberries, orange peel finish
Perfect med++ chalkiness and acidity
Would say med++ finish also

Remembering driving past when visiting Selosse :) hope to visit next time!

Terroirs: Avize - Ambonnay
Blending: 2019-2020
Dosage: brut - 8.3 g/L <- would not have guessed, good balance!!
Cépages: 90% Chardonnay 10% Pinot noir <- knew this going in but still didn’t expect the color
Disgorging: December 2022 (329 views)
Tasted by WindFlyer on 2/10/2024 & rated 91 points: [June 2023 disgorge]

very lovely pale rose colour. fresh peach, pear, raspberry and floral notes on the nose. fresh fruit on entry leads to a midpalate with flavours of cherry, blood orange, and raspberry and subtle yeasty notes held in high tension by the very bright acidity. good length with some floral and chalky notes.

very lovely champagne that is both visceral and cerebral and equally satisfying both ways. i would lay this down for a year or more… has upside potential.

12.5% AbV; 5g/L dosage; 90% Chardonnay from Avize/ 10% Pinot Noir (purchased from Verzenay, as Bonville grows only CH); base wines from the 2020 and 2021 vintages. (275 views)
Tasted by Somm David T on 2/10/2024 & rated 91 points: Interesting this can be up to 96% Chardonnay. They trade Chardonnay fruit for Pinot to make this. Franck Bonville only grows Chardonnay. 5 grams dosage.

It has excellent mousse and racy acidity. Better depth than the two previous cuvées.

Strawberries, cherries, very light black raspberries, touch of orange citrus, pink grapefruit, their is a tanginess here, nice soft chalkiness & volcanics, saline, sea fossils, white spice, yeast, baguette crust, cheesecake, pink flowers/roses, excellent acidity, nicely balanced with good tension and a nicely polished finish that last a minute.

This is the youngest in the mix and most of the base wine is from 2021…a year filled with weather issues from start to finish. Don’t think you’ll see many producers make a vintage cuvée.

@K&L Rosé tasting in advance of V-day. (321 views)
Tasted by Deux Chevaux on 11/30/2023: Lovely rosé, with excellent acid backbone. Very enjoyable, meted out over four nights. (410 views)
Tasted by coremill on 12/31/2021 & rated 90 points: July 2018 disgorgement, 90% Avize Chardonnay, 10% Ambonnay Pinot Noir, 6.67 g/L dosage. A delicious rose, showing juicy strawberries and limes over a grippy base of chalk. I liked this better than the white Brut Prestige. (2205 views)
 Tasted by Wine_and_ju on 7/2/2021 & rated 85 points: 샤르도네 90% 피노누아 10% 의 그랑 크뤼 샴페인

강한 산미, 풀바디의 샴페인
자몽, 딸기, 청사과, 레몬, 브리오쉬

시작부터 올라오는 강한 산미가 피니쉬까지 이어지며 감칠맛이 올라온다.

Tasted by tjb12 on 1/2/2021 & rated 91 points: Some strawberry, other red fruit, lemon zest. Very effervescent (2352 views)
Tasted by christyler on 10/2/2019 & rated 90 points: Nice showing - happiness in a (half) bottle. Very much playing in the entry level / NV realm and delivers nicely. (2203 views)
Tasted by chanote44 on 1/20/2019 & rated 87 points: Too sweet and unassuming. Lacking complexity (1902 views)
Tasted by mxpbuy on 1/18/2019 & rated 89 points: From Magnum. A very spirited Rose with only 10% Pinot. A thick head and bead that was larger than I thought it would be. Drier than many bruts. Crisp touches of pinot red fruit but lots of straw and lemon zest. (1861 views)
Tasted by Racer117 on 11/2/2018 & rated 92 points: On top form tonight. Beautiful copper color with a rich fruity and savoury character. (2023 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 10/28/2018 & rated 89 points: 2018 K&L Annual Champagne Event (K&L San Francisco Store): K&L Champagne Event 2018, nose of sweet and sour fruit, same on the palate, simple, tasty, at $40-pass. (1906 views)
Tasted by jpwineguy on 9/20/2018 & rated 88 points: Yummy. Tight, brightly acidic. No toast or yeasty characteristics. You really get the lovely, minerally Chardonnay all the way through the finish, I was just hoping for a touch more complexity from the Pinot Noir. I think this could really develop nicely in the cellar despite being a bottle "meant" to be drunk young. (1364 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 9/9/2018: Based on 2013-14, disgorged Aug 2016. Best bottle so far. Nice nose with strawberry and a touch of bread, with a kind of peach gelatin thing...on the palate, good acidity, more strawberry and peach, with some citrus and toast. Refreshing on a hot day. (1241 views)
Tasted by jvphoto on 8/4/2018 & rated 89 points: Dark persimmon-salmon color with small beady bubbles. Strawberry, melon and a little minerality on the nose. Grapefruit, raspberry, strawberry & melon palette but lacking much depth or complexity with a slightly chalky bitterness. Having tasted the Prestige & the terrior single appellation wines at their tasting room I was excited for this and while it’s good, I feel the whites were much more interesting. (1270 views)
Tasted by Stephan O on 6/16/2018 & rated 92 points: Salmon colored, with a fine, persistent bead and a nice halo of pearls once it settles. Barely discernible nose of berry or watermelon, with stronger melon, steel, and maybe pomegranate on the full-bodied palate. Finish sticks around for a good 30 seconds. I wasn't expecting much, but this is really well made. (1728 views)
Tasted by Blake Brown on 5/11/2018: NV FRANCK BONVILLE BRUT ROSE- Magnum; I`ve been a fan of this producer for many years, thanks to K&L`s Gary Westby who turned my on to them; I have particularly enjoyed the rose and in a magnum format, it is even a notch better; since they only grow Grand Cru Chardonnay, the Pinot Noir was sourced via a trade from Paul Dethune and blended into 92% Chardonnay; it had a light pink/red colour; the fruit profile is made up of red and black cherry and red raspberry along with a mild spicy component; its elegant, light and creamy on the palate, has nice acidity with all in perfect balance. (1396 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 5/6/2018: Based on 2013-2014, disgorged 8/2016, and 6.6 g/l dosage. Served warmer at first, because we were outside and showed strawberry and cinnamon on the nose and palate. Put in fridge and tasted again colder. Beautiful nose still showing cinnamon and strawberry, with some blood orange and citrus blossom. On the palate, pure blood orange, much more fruit forward than previous btls I've had (from the same batch). Nevertheless, very nice, just not like I remember it being. (1440 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 12/24/2017: Based on 2013-14, disgorged August 2016. Beautiful nose, with soft red fruit, bright pomegranate and grapefruit. Great bubbles, with loads of slightly underripe strawberry. Long and refreshing. (1517 views)
Tasted by bthatton on 11/9/2017 & rated 90 points: The bones of a very nice wine while being... a pleasing one. A bit of chalkiness is the framework for cantaloupe and wild, moderately ripe strawberries. (1767 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 10/22/2017 & rated 89 points: 2017 K&L Annual Champagne Tasting (K&L San Francisco Store): K&L Champagne Event 2017, nose of sweet and sour cherry fruit, hints of sweetness, same on the palate, medium body, tasty, lovely taste, creamy, touch simple, medium/long finish. (2046 views)
Tasted by Racer117 on 9/30/2017 & rated 92 points: Back to business! Much better than last bottle. We had the chance to see if this was ".....of the same caliber as Billecart-Salmon rose..." as we opened a half bottle of that as well. And... Franck brings it. Excellent. I am quickly going through my small stash of these half bottles! (1681 views)
Tasted by Racer117 on 9/20/2017 & rated 89 points: Definitely not as good as the previous bottle. This too was a beautiful deep dark color but the alcohol was very present and distracting. Good but by no means a great bottle. (1537 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
